Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  grand suite  from  classic guest

We were next in line and got a 45+ year old female who was doing other work and then finally called us over. She asked how our trip was and told her about our delay. I then handed her our id, card and a $20 and asked if they had any upgrades available. With a big smile she said yes and we got a grand suite. Two other couples in our group did the same thing and just got fridges in their room. We scored big time.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Junior Suite  from  Comp Room from TotalRewards

My wife got 4 nights for free from TotalRewards and we just testing out Bally’s. First time using this $20 sandwich trick. We checked in late around 8pm, there was no line so we just go to the first available clerk. She was nice, I give her my ID card with $20 in between. She upgrade us to a Junior Suite, I was trying to get a room with Jacuzzi but she as for a extra $30/night. We declined and just get the Junior suite. Very nice room considering it was free for 4 nights 🙂 Average $5/night….not bad! Will try this trick again with Planet Hollywood and Imperial Palace next time visiting Vegas in May. Can’t wait. Hopefully I can get a Fountain View at PH with $50 sandwich. Will let y’all know!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  North Tower Mini-Suite  from  South Tower Classic

I booked a South Tower Classic room for five nights a few weeks beforehand and checked in around 9:30pm on Friday. I chatted with the very nice clerk for a bit, telling her about some of my flight issues I had experienced. She asked for my ID/credit card and I slipped her the “sandwich” with the $20 peeking out, my first time trying it. I asked if there were any available comps. She responded very quickly, almost if she had been waiting for someone to do it, and offered me a 6th floor mini-suite in the North Tower. There wasn’t much of a view but the room was very spacious with a mini-fridge, separate sink and seating area. Most definitely worth the initial $20.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Jr. Suite - North Tower  from  Standard Room - South Tower

We arrived around 1130am, there was about 5 people in line. I scanned the front desk to see if there was anyone whom I could target. There was about 6 agents, 2 of which we serving check outs and VIPs. In the end, the line moved quickly, and I ended up with a Hispanic male in his late 20s. Gave him my name, and when he asked for the credit card, and ID, I passed the sandwich over, which I had prepared while waiting in line. As he took it, I asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades. He saw the bill (I had folded it so you couldn’t really see the amount, unless you unfolded it), and said “definitely, let me see what I can do.”

With a couple of keystrokes, he said he can get me a Jr. Suite.

First time trying the sandwich, and it worked! Surprised it would since I was there for CES, and the hotel seemed busy.

Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  received a standard room  from  standard / cheapest room

Checked in around 5:30PM and didn’t have a choice on which agent / clerk I was dealing with as there was a small line up. I did the “$50wick” and he told me very quickly he could not get me an upgraded rooma and handed me the $50 back just as quick. I asked what he could do and he said let me give you something on the 17th floor. It was standard room with a standard view at the strip but with the other tower blocking most of the view. Room was fine but I really looked forward to it working based on the % seen here. One thing to point out – he didn”t attempt to hide the $50 nor did he seem to care one way or the other. So I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. Try again next time – why not!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  North Tower Jr Suite  from  Basic South Tower

I checked in about noon time. I didn’t have a choice and got a woman in her late 30’s. I handed her the $20 sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. It was my first time so was a bit nervous but I was nice and made some small talk. I asked if there were any Jr Suites available in the North Tower with a view of the Bellagio fountains. She said she would check, took the $20 and place it next to her keyboard and typed away. She said that the suites with a jacuzzi would be $100 extra per night and could not be given out so she gave me a Jr Suite, large room, with a wet bar, 23rd floor, view of Flamingo side and airport. The room wasn’t available so I just had to wait an hour to come back for my room key. My room was booked free using airline miles so this was a really great deal for me! I’ll use the $20 sandwich every time I visit Vegas from now on!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  North Tower Junior Suite  from  South Tower Standard

I had tried to upgrade to a North Tower room earlier in the week, but I was told that the hotel was completely sold out on one of the nights of my stay, so they couldn’t do anything. At check-in, I figured I’d slip a $20 with my card and see what happens. I didn’t ask for anything, just smiled and made small talk. The woman behind the counter typed away for a few minutes before offereing me a North Tower suite. Then she thanked me for my generosity and I was on my way. Easiest $20 ever spent.

Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Executive Suite  from  Classic South Tower

We arrived at the hotel at 4pm on Thursday. I book 4 nights in the Classic South Tower room. All 4 nights were comped. I used the Platinum Players line, Since I am one and the regular check in line was really long. Also the clerk was a young female in her 20’s.

There was 1 person in front before my turn. I was talking to my cousin and asked her if I should do it or tell her I tip well then tip after we get a good room. So we decided to do the sandwich.

When I got up to the desk I was soo nervous. I handed over my CC $50 and ID. I stuttered “Are there any available complimentary upgrades?” She said “what??” I was so nervous! I said it again and she said “yes we do!” I went on and said “the biggest room you have, I want something very nice.” She says” the presidential room?? I would love to put you in there but they are blocked off this weekend!” But they were having a huge convention this weekend. I couldn’t believe that I almost got that room. So she is checking around and found a room in the North Tower that had a Sunken in bedroom, with a jaccuzi. I really did not want this roon cause of the size, but it was better than a south tower room. She then says “it only has a king bed it tho, but I can get you rollway.” I asked if it would be free. Then she says “hold on I’ll be right back.” She runs off to her manager and comes back 5 mins later. She says” I can put you in our 1,200 sq ft. executive suite but its in the south tower.” This was the room I wanted!! She says let me get you a good view. After that she said that if we needed anything , she was there all weekend.

We get to our room and it was huge! It had 2 bathrooms, big wet bar with fridge and 6 bar stools, a living room, family room, dining table, 3 tvs, a huge separate sunken in bedroom with a king bed. In there was 2 closets and his and her sink. And we had a beautiful view of the eiffel tower and cosmo, and a partial view of the Belligo fountains. This was worth $50! Comes out to $10/day for long weekend since it was a comped room.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Executive Suite - South Tower  from  South Tower Classic

Worked like a charm! We checked in at about midnight on a Monday night (in July). I don’t remember the clerk’s name, but she was a young Asian girl. I gave her the $20 sandwhich between my ID and credit card. I didn’t even say anything and she smiled and said “let me see what we can do for you.” She typed for a minute or so and then disappeared for over 5 minutes. When she came back she had a smile on her face and said that she was able to find us something really nice. She said our room was in the South Tower, so at first I was a little disappointed. However, when we got to our room I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. They gave us their Executive Suite which is HUGE! It was a two room suite. On one side was a large bar with two seperate seating areas. The other side was a very large room that stepped up to a very large bathroom (two vanities, a sunk in tub, and two toilets). The room was definitely dated and the halls to the room had an old hotel kind of smell, so if you are wanting something a little newer you should probably specifically ask for the North Tower. Overall we were very pleased with how well this worked for us!
