Tipped:  $30 Upgraded to  Casino Tower Large  from  Unsure

A really friendly lady attended to us, and we started up a chat while I was fishing for my cards… and the bills! On top of our $25, she also picked up that it was my birthday weekend. We had booked a Run of House room, and she told us that we were originally in the Manor Lodge, but the room she put us in turned out to be a large Casino Tower King room!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Casino Tower  from  Manor-Motor Lodge

Random clerk when it was my turn. About 7pm on Saturday (it was very busy – long line). I didn’t say a thing, just handed her the sandwich. She touched the bill, but never looked at it – left it under my ID on her desk, checked us in, and then took the bill and told me she upgraded the room.

Tipped:  $0 Upgraded to  Skyrise  from  Skyrise

Hate to burst your bubble, guys, but in most cases people are getting the upgrade AT THE COST OF THE UPGRADE. They are getting the upgrade because they are paying for it at the front desk. DUH! This isn’t a “trick.” It’s just the price of the upgraded room. If it doesn’t work, it’s because the upgrade isn’t available, or your stay is longer than the $20 upgrade will pay for. This is typically 3days/2nights. It costs about $10 more for the first upgrade, $20 for the next upgrade. Book your upgrade online, save yourself $10 and the check-in headaches.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  West Tower  from  Sunrise Tower

We booked on hotels.com for a room in the Sunrise Tower. We arrived at 11 pm and went straight to the check-in line. We only had to wait a moment before we stepped up to the desk. The first clerk we dealt with was a very professional young woman. We immediately handed the sandwich over and asked if there were any upgrades available. She looked at the sandwich and told us she could offer us an upgrade to their West Tower rooms for $15 per night. We were staying for 4 nights so that would add up fast. My husband then asked if she had anything complimentary, and she gave us a lecture about how they monitor the upgrades. We took our room keys and left.

When we got to our original room on the other side of the hotel (a long walk with some stairs), we saw that she assigned us the wrong bed count (2 queens vs. a king). We stormed back down to the hotel lobby.

Next I had this wonderful woman who was very pleasant. I decided to try the sandwich again since maybe she would feel bad about the room mix-up. I asked if she had any complimentary upgrades available (in a very quite voice) and it worked like a charm. She upgraded us to a room next to our friends in the West Tower. The room was totally worth the additional $20. It was still not the caliber of The Venetian or Hard Rock, but a lot nicer than most hotel rooms in Vegas.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  West Tower Corner Room  from  Rack Rate

Got in around 8.30pm, sandwiched a 20 between my CC and my passport and handed it over to the clerk.
I didn’t say anything, he put the 20 next to his keyboard and after about 30 seconds of typing he said “I’m putting you into one of our newer West Tower rooms, would you like a view or closer to the casino?”. I chose the view.

However he gave me a non-smoking room (although he asked me right up front if I wanted smoking or non-smoking and I clearly said smoking). Although beggars can’t choose, I went back downstairs and a different clerk accomodated me with a smoking room, unfortunately with a less nice view.

Technically, I did get lucky but it was hardly worth the 20$, as the rooms weren’t very clean (and weren’t cleaned any better by housekeeping during my stay) and all in all looked pretty run down (I won’t complain about the smell of smoke, it’s was a smoking room, so what do you expect?!). However, I wouldn’t want to imagine, what the older rooms must look like.

I gave the clerk the $20 sandwich, but she handed the $20 straight back to me. No luck at all. 🙁

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Room - 28th floor  from  Manor

We checked in around 2:00 AM on a Saturday. There was a moderate line, it took us about 10 minutes to get a clerk. My girlfriend had overheard another clerk tell a guest that all upgraded rooms have been booked.

When we were called, I put the 20 between the drivers license and credit card and asked about an upgrade before giving her the cards. She gave me the same response without checking the computer; that all rooms were booked. I apologized, and tried to palm the 20 back into my pocket. I guess she noticed what I was doing and saw the money… She started typing on her keyboard, and in a few minutes told me that she could get me into one of the newer, remodeled rooms. I couldn’t believe it! I tucked the twenty under the agreement and thanked her profusely. She ended up giving us a 2 for 1 at their buffet (Not recommended, but the price was right) and $25 in free slot play. I’m not sure if that usually comes with the room, but free is free!

We got into a tower room on the 28th floor overlooking Las Vegas Boulevard. It definitely looked remodeled; inside was a comfortable bed, super soft pillows, and an LCD TV (w/o cable). It was worth every penny, and got us out of the dreaded manor rooms!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Main Tower Mini Suite  from  Manor

Slipped the license and $20, and asked if there were any free upgrades. Did not try to hide the $20, and looked in the computer for a room. Said every time she found a roob, it got booked before she could save it for us. After 3 tries, we got a mini suite. View wasnt the best, but it was a nice large room, and that is more important to us than a view, so we were very satisfied. Definately worth $5/night.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  28th floor Tower room  from  Motor Lodge room

So the wife and I made a real quick impromptu trip to Vegas and we were looking for the cheapest room possible. Well on travelocity they had a cheap motor lodge room for the few days we were going to be there. Well on check in we did the trick and once the lady saw the twenty bucks sticking out she gave us an enthusiastic “sure” when we asked for an upgrade. She gave us a nice room on the 28th floor with a King bed and a huge bathroom. Well worth the 20 bucks. Thanks for the tips

We were upgraded to a tower room overlooking the strip. The Clerk would not take the $20 either.
