I got a comped 3 day stay in a standard resort room. Never tried the $20 trick before. Got in around 2am, gave the clerk my $20 and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. He called someone up on his phone, and after a while said he felt bad about taking the $20 since there was nothing he could do, and handed it back. As he finished checking me in, he got a phone call, and said he now had an upgrade to a room on the 55th floor. I told him I felt bad about keeping the $20, so I handed it back to him. It appeared to be a standard room, just on a high floor, facing away from the strip. This was nice, as you could see the golf course and distant mountains. Worth $20, but not that big a deal. He also gave me a few passes for Tryst, their night club, for Sunday night.
Checked in around 4PM. All of the clerks were female. Placed the $20 underneath ID and CC, clerk saw it and promptly gave us a room with a great strip view (however, half of the view is blocked by the new casino Palazzo)
This is our first try with the $20 tip. We booked a resort room using the casino rate ($179/night w/ $100 free credit) for the weekend. Checked in around 6pm. Got directed to a male clerk who was quite friendly. Did the $20 between the CC and ID, and asked for a complimentary upgrade. He made a quick phone call, and got us the panoramic view room at 57th floor. The view was awesome! We’re very happy with the result! (Note: In reality, it’s only 47th floor, because Wynn doesn’t have 40th-49th floor.)
After reading that the Wynn has a different check-in window for suites, I decided not to try the $20 check and instead simply asked if there were any upgrades available (without offering up money). The reservation agent told me she had a great room on the 58th floor with a wonderful view. It did and I didn’t pay a dime… but as nice a view as it was, I wouldn’t have wanted to pay for it. There was nothing special involved in the request and it was during a busy weekend so it never hurts to ask.
Waited in line which seemed like forever, walked up to a young male Clerk. Slipped the $20 under the license/CC and told him it was my girlfriend’s bday and was hoping for an upgrade to the tower suites. He tucked in the 20 quickly into his pocket and said I’ll find you something good.
Showed me an upgrade to the tower suites, free of charge! A nice tower suites key, with a private entrance, instant line passes to the buffet. Over $100 more per night! Well worth the $20.
Also on the 54th floor!
Very happy with the room we ended up with. A suite would have been nice but I’m not complaining. Panoramic rooms are about $50/night more than a basic resort room so we ended up about $80 ahead for our two night stay.
BTW, you get to choose your line at the Wynn so you might want to review the clerk profiles.
Upgraded to a Panoramic, which basically means same size room as standard but a better view of the strip. Any room at Wynn is amazing, even a standard room has ceiling to floor windows, a sitting area, a huge bathroon with a tv and bathtub. Overall Wynn will blow you away, it is not as large as the other casinos, but quality wise so much nicer, classier, non-tacky, taxi lines are short, tryst is gorgeous. Will not stay anywhere else in Vegas from now on.
Checked in at 300am and did the sandwich trick and it worked like a charm. Thank you!
