Standard sandwich, $20. Politely asked if any upgrades were avaialble, checked and upgraded to bay king suite. Very nice room.
Just came back from Vegas…I originally booked the King deluxe room. After reading and watching youtube videos regarding the 20 sandwich trick, I figured let me give it a try…Well, it worked out great…I went from a delux room to a Master penthouse on the 62 floor…it was amazing. I haven’t read of anyone getting upgrade to a penthouse..it was so amazing, just wish I had a big group of friends in Vegas to really enjoy the room..it was just to big…but hey, I am not complaining.
Checked in on a Monday afternoon, went to M life rewards express checkin line. Put $20 with credit card and driver license and asked if there were any complementary upgrades available. Got upgraded from the King Exec suite to the skyview suite.
Went in the mlife line and when I went to hand the sandwich she said no, just the ID. Thought my plan was foiled so I just left my card and cash on top by the edge of the counter on her side. After she read the room I had booked I asked about the upgrade she said let me check and offered a suite in Mandalay bay but it wasn’t ready or a suite right then in Delano. It was 10am and we didn’t expect to get a room that early so it was a nice surprise. Went from a mandalay resort king to a Delano king suite.
We had booked 2 Run of the House rooms, but at check-in asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades available, as we were celebrating our daughter & her friend’s college graduations. The desk clerk gave us a regular Resort Queen for the adults and a Bay Suite for the 2 college graduates (adjoining rooms) with not a very great view, but at least the one rooms was larger. He would have given us a bigger suite, but it wasn’t ready at the time & he said there were no other suites available at the moment. If we could have waited, we could have had that one, but we had been traveling all day & wanted to get into our rooms and relax. So we did get one of our rooms upgraded. There was a huge line at check-in.
Prime rush, didn’t even have to ask. Made the sandwich and Got upgraded from a 5th floor room to a 27th floor room.
I was in town with inlaws for a 2 night stay. I booked both rooms with my registered malice account. I’m not a big gambler but I had stayed at Mandalay Bay previously. I had $49 run of the house rooms reserved.
When we went to check in I just pulled out a $20 and held it folded in my fingers and asked if they had any upgrades. Clerk was a 30ish year old looking white dude. He said let me check….yup…you guys want suites? Said sure ! We got suites in Delano with a view of an ac unit literally outside the window, but still a nice upgrade. I had $75 food and beverage credit with my reservation and he upped it to $100 per room, too. This was in Jan 2017
When we arrived I like others had prepared the sandwich with a $20.00. We just went for the next available clerk as it was busy. For us it was about mid day. We were asked whether we wanted a king or two queens and if floor height was important. I naturally went for as high as we could go with a king bed. I had my sandwich ready as we asked for an upgrade. We were quickly turned down with the response that they didn’t do complimentary upgrades anymore. I pocketed my $20 bill very quickly after that. When we got to our room we asked for a complimentary fridge for our personal liquor, which they never said would be a charge for. At the end of our trip we had to go complain that we were charged and extra $35 a day for this mini fridge. For this we were refunded, but only after we complained. Our room was nice, our view was ok. The customer service at this hotel was less than satisfactory for us.
We arrived at the hotel very early in the AM (7 vegas time). I prepared my $20 sandwich (nom nom nom) and presented it to the next available host with the phrase “any complimentary upgrades available?”. She was startled a bit at first but threw the $20 on the desk and begin looking. The hotel was very full as there was a conference booked there and the pool was opening this weekend. She found us an upgrade to a executive bay king suite with a strip view (that is 2 tiers of upgrade I think). Even better, she got us checked in to an already ready suite (that is normally a $50 upcharge) and extra late checkout on Sunday (normally another $40). So thankful, normally checkin is at 3pm and the place becomes a zoo! Also 2 buffet passes! When I looked at rooms, a exec over a bay room was an extra $200 or so a night, so for our 2 night stay, we ended up with $500 worth of value for our $20 bucks. Total win!
HUGE line when we checked in around 530, which I knew was a bad sign. We approached our assigned FD clerk, handed her the ID and CC and obviously laid out a fresh twenty on the counter. We asked if they had any complimentary upgrades and relayed that we had stayed with friends in their 2 bedroom suite and would love to upgrade to on again. She typed for approximately four seconds and said nothing was available. Upon pressing, she said no suites were available at all, not even for paid upgrades. She was not terribly pleasant, but suggested we come down the following day to ask if any became available because there was a huge rush and everything was taken. We came down the following day to talk about upgrades and again presented a 20. She said we could upgrade to a suite for $200 a day. When we asked for a better view with the same room configuration as we had, it would be another $30 a day. Very confusing seeing as you could book a suite with a view for $20 extra for four days. Won’t be going to MB again, unfortunately. Very unhelpful.
