No line at checkin on a Monday evening (around 8pm). Guy was great. Gave me the upgraded room (more square footage and better bathrooms – separate tub) with no hesitation.
Checked in around 3.00pm and there was no line so I decided to try my luck with an asian woman in her 30s. As I was booked in for 9 nights which included the Nascar weekend I wasn\’t sure it would work. I handed over the $20 sandwich and just asked if there was any possibility of an upgrade. She said that she would have a look for me and after less than aminute of typing she advised that she could offer me a Deluxe Tower Room and even offered me the choice of a King Room that was available straight away or, if I wanted to wait for a coupkle of hours a Queen double room. As I had been travelling for over 12 hours I took the King Room. No view of the Strip but a great room non the less. Will definitely try this next time.
I always smile when checking in, always get excited before I step up to the desk. I find that it’s the easiest way to get an upgrade without even tossing them a tip. Just recently I have been doing the $20 trick with our local hotels and it works.
Vegas is all based on availability and the weekend I went it was fully booked! The lady was nice, and did see my $20, but didn’t have any upgrades for free. The $20 didn’t leave my hand.
There was a long line, so we really didn’t have our choice of what clerk… so the next one available is who we got – which ended up being totally fine… we did the sandwich asked for any room upgrades and she gave us an option… the players suite or the luxury suite.
Long line up – figured the place was at capacity. This clerk was also in the middle and the manager was walking around so we seriously thought we were going to be out of luck, we tried anyways… slipped her the 20.00 she pocketed it pretty quick and asked if we wanted the players suite or the luxury suite. We picked the luxury suite. it was huge!!
The guy looked like he was trying really hard to find something but said everything was booked. He did offer to upgrade us to the Tower Deluxe Room but we declined as it’s normally a $20 price difference anyway. Asked for change for the $20 and gave him a $5 tip.
Checked in around 5. Did not get to choose a clerk, but I think ours would have been a winner on a different day. Just asked if there was any room upgrades available, he seemed to know what I was talking about.
Checked in about 5pm, the line was real short and i got sent to the end of the check in booths to a youngish female. Greeted her with a smile and a happy hello, offered up my passport and CC with $20 in the middle and asked if there were any available complementary upgrades. She took the sandwich and and said that they dont do that sort of thing, but hid the tip and started to type away. She made all the right moves and suggestions that made me believe id hit the jackpot but i think i killed it all for myself. I had 2 rooms booked with the same CC as the missus had her mother travelling with us, and wanted to be near our room. So she changed the room she had marked out for me to get us 2 rooms close by.
Nearly. Next time will just que up twice.
Checked in about 10 PM, mid-week. Mid 20’s female very nice and cooperative. I was a little hesitant because there seemed to be a lot of supervisors around. It didn’t matter… She upgraded us without hesitation or hassle. Thanks for a great tip!
Checked in late at night. Sandwiched my $20 between Visa & driver’s license and handed it over. He asked “did we want the room we had reserved or …” – I answered – “sure, unless there’s something better available on offer.” Click click and then he excuses himself to talk to someone (the tell) and comes back & issues room keys. Batta bing batta boom.
I read about everyones success on this website and decided to give it a crack. Travelling from Australia i couldnt wait to give this a go, not for the upgrade, just to see if it worked. And it did. Checked in on a weekday night.
When the dude asked for my CC and DL i did the old sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He typed away, and had no problem giving us an upgrade to the Tower Deluxe room. I asked if it was possible to get the Spa Suite, and he said he couldnt go up that high. But he gave us a room high up on the 16th floor with a great view.
Ended up with a saving of 100 bucks. Well worth it. Good luck players.
