Thought I had no chance, Vegas was busy line was insane for check in due to EDC being on that weekend. Initially the lady found the $20 sandwiched between ID and credit card, she placed it on the counter and said sorry I can’t do much as we are so busy. I left the bill there and said no problem that’s for you! she was friendly and chatty and she suddenly said she managed to upgrade us to a suite facing the strip. Amazing!

Um… so the $20 tip trick worked, but then again it didn’t? The reason why i am unsure is because I did the trick but clerk didn’t take it. I placed the $20 in between my id and credit card and handed it over. I asked if there were any upgrades availible, i got an upgrade to double queen bed tower room with soaking tub, (real nice). The clerk also gave me 2 free passes to the buffet for either morning or night, (would have been better if the food was better). But after he returned my ID and credit card, the $20 was still there sandwiched inside. So he didnt take the money but i still got a deal. I wonder if the upgrades would have been given even with out the tip…hmmmm.

We actually got comped for one room and got the players discount for the other on our reservation with a casino host.

My first time trying the sandwhich, we got in at around 11pm, the normal line was long, but the MLife players club was only 3 deep. The woman behind the desk was great, took the money very subtley and proceeded to work and work to find the right upgrade, even calling another agent for help at one point. There were 4 of us booked, so she was trying to get us 4 beds, but with the couch etc, we just took the Single King premier and that was that. Great room, literally cost us $300 for the weekend w/ the comps, and I’m not a big high roller. I promise.

I had the money tightly snug in between my credit card and ID. When I gave it to clerk he knew exactly what was up. Immediately tucked it behind his sleeve and began typing away. I got moved from a pyramid room to a Premium West end tower room. Worked like a charm.

The check in line was busy so there was no particular clerk I could pick, I was just the next in line. Although I did not visit Vegas for the first time, I never used the complementary tactics to get an upgrade. I did set up the passport / $20 / credit card sandwich but when he only asked for my ID the sandwich collapsed and was spread all over the counter. Also the conversation with the clerk went different then I rehearsed before in my head, actually there was not much of a conversation but I guess he understood the meaning. He upgraded us from a Pyramid Queen Room to a Tower Premium Queen Room: Newly remodeled. I know this is a $15 a night upgrade because I got an email a few days earlier if I was interested in these rooms. So for 4 nights that saved me $60. He also added a free buffet for 2 and that saved us another 50.
So even if your a bit clumsy and are not that skilled with smooth talking your way in a good deal, there is a good chance the trick will work 😊

Side not, next to me was a man who also took the upgrade, but payed for it. I spoke to him the other day and he said that these newly remodelled rooms where really good value, as the older pyramid rooms are really worn down (he stayed there last year). So if you visit the Luxor for a few days, at least go for this upgrade to make your stay much more pleasant. And for only $20 more, this upgrade is worth even more then the $110 saved.

Walked up to the desk with my wife and her Happy Birthday Shirt. Sandwiched my 20.00 with my Id and card. It was early their was not a lot of people we got a younger Asian lady that checked us in first told us there were not any rooms but looked at the room type we booked and she found a room. She took my id and card and put the 20 back on the counter I asked about upgrades and she said not for free and was actually I felt kinda rude because normally when we come to Vegas for a special occasion they normally do something to make us feel special.

I booked 2 rooms & asked for free buffets and was given 4. Checked in with the $20 & asked if upgrades were available. We were given strip view suites for $35 additional/night. I told her we were there for 2 birthdays & was told to see her Wednesday & she would comp 5 more buffets. I could not find her on Wednesday, so I bought 5 all day buffets & mentioned this at check-out & they took them off my bill! The Craps table was ROCKIN! Go there for the late shift. Rent a car for the Hoover dam & Grand Canyon. Uber to Freemont St!!! WILD!

I arrived around 6pm on Friday. The line was long so i didn’t really target anyone. When I was next I actually was on the phone and I handed the clerk my ID and my Card with a $20 in between, didn’t say one word to her, 1 minute later when I was off the phone she just stated as far as upgraded she can give me a Pyramid Suite. I took it. She then asked what the $20 was for and I replied, for the upgrade. She stated its mandatory to ask. I honestly did not think it was gonna work, glad I tried!

Upon being called up, I greeted the clerk with a warm smile and told her I was checking in. She asked me for my ID & CC and I asked \”I was wondering if you had any complimentary upgrades available\”. She saw the $20 bill and said \”Let me check that for you\”. We made small talk about the weather and she upgraded me from the most basic room to a suite with a hot tub (which we overflowed later that night, but that\’s another story).
