Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  none  from  Standard

This was the first time I tried the “trick”. My son and I checked in about 3:30 pm Monday. There was a small line so we took the next available teller, a middle aged lady. I had the $20 tucked in-between my cards. When she asked, I gave her the sandwich and waited. She looked at the $20 and seemed surprised! Then I said, “could you check for any complimentary upgrades available?” She started typing and I thought it might have worked! But, without saying anything, she turned and walked towards the supervisor. After talking to her boss, she came back and politely said there was nothing she could do and slid the $20 back to me. I think it was her first time too! Oh well, I will try it next time and see what happens.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Standard with a view  from  Standard

Had to wait about 10 minutes in line to check in…tried the $20 sandwich which was promptly returned to me with the comment “I can’t take this”. I asked for complimentary upgrade and was informed that I could get a room with a view, but not a newly remodeled room without paying the upgrade fee. I tipped the clerk after the transaction because he upgraded my whole party of 3 rooms.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Wide screen Strip View  from  Standard

There was no line a check in around 6:30 pm on a Wednesday night. I went to the first employee who motioned to me who was a younger female. I gave the twenty and asked if there were ant complimentary upgrades this week. She said she would see what she could do and gave us a Wide Screen Strip View without any problem. Note that this was during a busy time in Vegas- March Madness.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Widescreen Tower Room  from  Tower Room

It was very busy at check in, so I didn’t have a choice of clerk. I did the sandwich trick and asked for an upgrade, and got it no problem to one of the renovated widescreen rooms with a 42″ plasma TV.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Widescreen - Tower 2 - 13th floor - no strip view  from  Standard - Tower 1

I handed the clerk the sandwich and she asked what the $20 was for and I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available, she was very flattered and appreciative but said they were all booked up and handed my $20 back. She began to check me in but I think she kept thinking about that $20 bill she almost had and asked a question to another employee walking by and then upgraded my room and said “Where’s that 20?”, LOL, I handed it to her, she seemed extremely happy that I had done that and said I had done everything right. She didn’t ask me what kind of upgrade I was wanting and I didn’t tell her (I was prepared to ask for a Widescreen, High Up, Strip View, Smoking) because I had thought we weren’t going to get it anyway so I was just happy that it worked at all. Next time I will ask for specifically what I want. I was very nervous but it worked well and I won’t be nervous about it next time.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Widescreen View Room  from  Standard King

Arrived at hotel around 2ish. There was no line so was able to check in straight away. We started the check in process as normal until she asked for my credit card and ID. I place a 20 in between the 2 and ask if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She said she would have to ask her manager. After returning she said that they do not do comp upgrades and that the best she could offer was a refurb room for $30 extra a night. Being prepared to upgrade to this room anyway I agreed but played my last card which was that it was my girlfriends 21st birthday. The woman didn’t seem impressed of my persistence however she claimed that it was also her birthday. She gave me back my $20 and place one invoice to the side and created what I can only assume was a new one.

RESULT: upgrade from standard king room to a wide screen king view room for Free!.

Tipped:  $0 Upgraded to  widescreen strip view  from  deluxe room

this was about 2/12 yrs ago. i am telling the story now because i just found the site and thought i’d share. my wife and i checked into excalibur probably around 430pm after arriving from soCal. booked our room on excalibur site. deluxe room i believe it was. did not even think about offering a tip for an upgrade as it was both our first time in vegas together and first time in many yrs in general. handed clerk, young man, very nice as i remember my card and license (license had actually expired on my bday about 3 prior but he didnt’ notice or didn’t care). he told us our room wasn’t ready and he could upgrade us to a widescreen room for no charge! we jumped on it and got a room on 15th floor facing ny ny for no additional charge. could even keep an eye on our car down in the parking lot. it was our anniversary weekend, but we didn’t go in mentioning that. we just seemed to get lucky lol. im sure if i ask next time we go (hopefully soon, for my birthday) im sure we will not be so fortunate even with tipping

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower 2 widescreen room FULL STRIP VIEW  from  standard

My husband and I checked in at about 12 am on Monday. Not very many clerks and we had been debating if we were going to try this or not the whole flight down. Got an older male clerk who didnt look happy at all. I lost my nerve and told my husband that I would wait for him by the bar!!! Well, my husband simply slipped the 20 between his DL and CC and asked \”Do you have any complimentary upgrades available?\”. The clerk took the 20, placed it under the keyboard and in min. we were upgraded to a very nice widescreen room in Tower 2, 25th floor, with the most amazing view of the strip ever!!!! 20 bucks well spent!!!!!!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  twin widescreen  from  standard

I arrived quite late after a really long journey from England, read about this tip, thought I\’d give it a go. There was no queue at the check in desk, and already had the \’sandwich made.\’ the young girl at the desk asked for our booking information and passports, when this was handed over, I mentioned to the girl that this was my third time in Vegas and particularly at this hotel, asking politely \’\’are there any complimentary upgrades available today?\’\’ the lady immediately spotted the $20bill and said that she would have a look on the computer – a couple of seconds later, she advised that we could have a free upgrade from a standard double room to a widescreen room on the 23rd floor with a fab view of the strip – this is definitely worth trying – that room could have cost sooo much more than the $20!!
