Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Deluxe Augustus Tower Suite  from  Deluxe Palace Tower Room

How It Happened: My girlfriend and I approached the check in counter with a smile and said we’d like to check in. The woman asked for my last name, then looked up the reservation. She said, “So we have you for 2 nights in the Deluxe Palace Tower Room, can I see your ID?” I had the $20 slipped between my ID and credit card and brought them above the counter, then said, “Sure, but we were wondering if there were any complimentary upgrades available?” and smiled looking at the ID and CC and $20. She said, “Oh, you don’t have to do that(referring the $20 tip). I’ll take a look. Have you stayed here before because the room you reserved is very nice already?” We replied no, and she started typing into the computer. She said, “Yes, I can upgrade you to the Augustus Tower w/ a beautiful view of the strip and Bellagio water fountain.” I offered her the $20 again, but she declined. She gave us our room keys, room charge card for use w/ complimentary $25 food credit and sent us on our way. The room was excellent, w/ a flat panel tv in living room and bathroom, king bed, large bathroom, and wonderful view. We used the $25 for room service and at the Augustus cafe. Food was great, highly recommend.

We also signed up for Total Rewards and were given some cheesy casino freebies like a Caesar’s gold medallion necklace so we could look like Flava Flav. I asked the woman at the TR desk about PURE nightclub passes and she looked in her drawer and handed me a VIP pass for two for the night. We didn’t end up using the VIP pass b/c as we were walking by PURE before it opened, one of the bouncers standing outside asked if we wanted on his guest list. Of course we said yes, so there was no waiting in line, we just came back around 11:00 pm walked to the front of the line and told them our names then went in. I don’t know why he asked, but we were very happy to not have to wait in a 200+ person line. The Pussycat Dolls were entertaining and the club was packed. VERY expensive drinks…Rockstar and Vodka + Crown and Coke = $25 + tip = $28…Yikes.
(Note: VIP passes only get you free admission. You still have to wait in forever long line. Guest list gets you to front of line + free admission saving at least a few hours of waiting.) How lucky!

Overall an amazing experience. I think the key in Vegas is you have to ask and not be afraid to be rejected. I also think a friendly smile can go a long way, as so many people you see in Vegas are rude and expecting the royal treatment. Seemed like most of the things we asked for we were given. Caesar’s treated us well and I wouldn’t have wanted to stay anywhere else.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Forum Tower  from  Classic Tower Room

It was kind of awkward as the clerk was on the phone as I approached, but she set the phone down then slipped a 20 with my CC and asked for an upgrade in the Augustus tower. She said that it’d be 120 extra for that but she can give me what I believe she called a Parlor Suite in the forum tower. It was room 7710. I asked her to make sure it had 2 beds and she said it did, but when we got there it just had 1 pull down queen, but boy the room was awesome. Would’ve been great for a party, huge bathroom, sitting area, table, etc. Anyway, since there was 4 of us, we called the desk and then they put us in the Augustus tower with a view of the fountains, on level 43. My friends were very impressed with the upgrade!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Deluxe Augustus Tower Room  from  Deluxe Palace Tower Room w/ $25 food credit

The clerk was excellent. We might have received the upgrade even without the tip but we decided to try it. We were in the back of the hotel and had a view of the Palms and Rio but we did not care about the view because the room was gorgeous. The Augustus Tower is amazing. The National Rodeo Finals and the Las Vegas Marathon were both this weekend and they even had a Convention with over 3500 employees so we were very happy to even get this. On a side note, the food credit could be used for room service and their Kung Pao chicken was awesome.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Suite  from  Tower Room

Thanks to you all for this topic. Would never have tried it otherwise. Got in line and went to the youngest person I could find…handed her my ID..she pulled up the reservation…and I asked her if she could upgrade us…she looked at me and I handed her my credit card and $20 together..she smiled…and said let me she its a very busy weekend…and it took her like 10 minutes..and then she was like…make sure you keep your keys on you..because the 28th floor requires that you use your key in the elevator..and said Thanks and put the money in her pocket…I said thank you and I was off…GREAT room..had his and her bathrooms..and a plasma TV…it was great..thanks

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Augustus Tower /w Strip View  from  Palace Tower

Checked in at airport about 5.30pm.
Handed credit card with tip visible to clerk and asked if there were any free upgrades available.
She knew exactly what we meant and after a little time typing gave us a fantastic room over overlooking the Bellagio fountains.
We were travelling with our young kids (shock horror!) and would probably have scored a suite if we did not need the 2 queen beds.
Definitely $20 well spent!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Forum Mini-Suite  from  Augustus Tower Room

Here’s what went down. Went to the desk with my friend (she had the room in her name). I had her ID and CC in my hand with $20 sandwiched between, but sticking out. Said, “Hey how are you? We’d like to check-in.” He asked for her last name and said, “I have you for a double in the Augsutus Tower right?”
I then clicked the cards down on the counter and said, “Yep, but we were wondering if you could upgrade us.” He was looking straight at me and didn’t see the $20 so I looked right at the $20 and he then looked at it too. He said, “I’m sorry, but on a weekend at full capacity we can’t really do anything like that.” I said,”Oh really? What’s going on? Is there something special this weekend?”
He replied,”No, not really, just people coming to relax.” Blah, blah, blah…more small talk.
Then I slid the CC over the $20 and hid it.

He then typed a bunch of stuff…got on the phone…”So you really need 2 beds right? And that has to be non-smoking?” We said yes. He made some more calls…
He then said,”Well, you had a double room in the new Augustus Towers. Very nice and $50 over our regular rooms. What I can get you is a suite in the Forum Towers. This is slightly older tower, but a very nice mini-suite. 800 square feet and $120 over our regular room. It has a king bed and I can call you a rollaway. Would you like that? Of course there will be no extra charge.”
I answered yes and that was that.
“Is that for me?”, he asked pointing to the $20. I said yes and he smoothly took the cards and $20 and pocketed it.
I dunno why he said he couldn’t do it at first.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Palace Towers  from  Standard Room

Stayed at Caesars from 8/8-8/11, checked in at the hotel, told the young girl that it was my friend’s birthday (it really was) and slipped her my CC and ID with $20 between and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She seemed like she knew exactly what I was getting at, so she goes, “I’ll see what I can do.” Types away at the computer and finds us a room in the Palace towers overlooking the pool and right next to the elevator. It was great, had our own jacuzzi, and the pool was right downstairs. Very well worth the $20! I was hoping to get the Augustus Tower, but I guess I’ll just have to try again next time!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to    from  Palace Tower Room

Slipped $20 for a room at Cesars Palace and the young girl had no clue what I was trying to do. Told me that there wasn’t anything available and that the room i was getting was already nice. Felt pretty embarassed at the moment. Took my $20 back and thanked her and checked out the room. It was a newly renovated room with a LCD TV and very spacious in the palace tower. One of the nicer rooms I have stayed in Vegas, maybe even better than Venetian IMO.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Suite  from  Standard Room

Came back from LV over the weekend. Checked in at the airport to Ceasars. The $20 trick worked…got upgraded to the suite with a huge his and her bathroom and a large LCD Sony TV. I would’ve gotten a better deal if not for the 2 queen beds. Anyway, when we got to the room, the bathroom door was broken and I complained at the check in counter. They told us that all of their rooms are full at 97.6% fill rate this past weekend and don’t have one similar to ours. So they comped us $50 for buffets and upgraded us to the Asparatus tower (1 year old) the following day. Nicer suite with a LCD TV in the bathroom.

Not that it matters, but the checked in person was an African American and he seemed nervous when checking us in at the airport. He had to make a call to the hotel to make sure the suite we wanted was available.

Oh did I mention that the room was comped at Ceasars? -$20 (tips) + $50 (buffets) = $30 slot money.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Suite /w View  from  Regular Room

Used airport check in (which also saved me about 45 minutes). Got a nice suite with a strip view. The guy in front of me nicely asked if there was anything available in terms of free upgrades and was told no… I guess in this case $20 worked better than a smile and being friendly.
