Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Lake View  from  Standard

Original reservations where made through I4vegas. The clerk checked for a while and was having trouble finding stuff (but was clearly trying hard). We ended up getting a room with a lake view on the 9th floor, which was technically not a Lake View room (those are 10th floor and above), but still had a very nice view. Certainly worth $20 for three nights.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  lakeside view  from  standard room

Crystal was the person who checked me in. I handed her the $20 between my DL and CC and asked about any complimentary upgrades available…maybe a lakeside view. She found a room in the spa tower that faced the lake…and said if I wanted to call the desk after 3 there would be more rooms availabe ….but the view from the spa tower was fine.

Tipped:  $100 Upgraded to  Fountain View  from  Free Room - no view

First it did not work, then it worked the second time. Here’s what happened. We checked in on Saturday around noon and it was super busy. We waited around scoping out who to approach and couldn’t find any young males so we went for a young asian female who looked really friendly. We chose $100 for the tip – mainly because we had a free room anyway and thought $100 would up the stakes alot. Sandwiched the $100 between credit card and id and asked for a comp upgrade. She immediately pocketed the cash and then said there was nothing – that they were selling the upgrade for $50 a night. I said no thanks. She suggested we take our current room and then call to ask for an upgrade later. I said we were not in a rush to check in and would wait and see what happens. She clearly had no intention of returning the money, so I simply asked for it back.

THEN, we checked in later with a woman in her early 30’s. She was SUPER cool and was obviously experienced in the tip practice. This time I opted to put the $100 under my hand (showing it while talking) and asked for an upgrade. She thought it would not be a problem. She offered us a deluxe suite but no fountain view or a regular room with fountain view. We chose the regular room with a view. She also gave us line passes for the buffet. Worked well in the end – didn’t feel strange at all. I wouldn’t do more than a $20 next time. If they can do it, I’m sure they would do it for that. In the end, I guess it just really all depends on who you get!

Tipped:  $0 Upgraded to  standard  from  standard

I never knew about this trick but when I stayed at the Bellagio for my Honeymoon, but I asked if we could be upgraded to a room over looking the fountains. The lady at the check in was very polite but said there was no rooms available but to check back tomorrow. We didn’t end up checking back the next day as the standard rooms are amazing to begin with but next time I will try the $20 trick to see what it gets me!

Highly recommend Bellagio, amazing hotel!

After reading all the reviews here, I just had to see for myself if this tipping trick would work. It did and the nice clerk gave us an upgrade to the 24th floor! 7 nights of the fountain view looking right at the Eiffel Tower and gorgeous fountains is highly recommended!!

Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Fountain 24th Floor  from  Standard

Checked in late around midnight & gave clerk the $50 along with license. At first she attempted to give back as she thought it was an accident, then i stopped her and said i was wondering if there were any comp upgrades. she said she would take care of me and typed away & called a manager or something to unlock the room (i think she was somewhat new & with limited authority). I asked for a really nice view & she gave us 24th floor right in the middle next to where the suites are. Also i asked what she could do for me because she said that she hadnt been tipped for a long time. She only gave us comp buffet line passes & comped the minibar for about $75.00, so it was obviously worth it. I would assume the value of the $50.00 tip was about $275.00 plus about an hour of our time we would have waited in the buffett line…success!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Fountain  from  Standard Room

Made the credit card, id, $20 sandwich and asked if there were any fountain view rooms available. She typed on her keyboard and made a call, took about 3 minutes. Then she never told me it was available. She promptly slipped the $20 into her pocket. They put us on the 15th floor with an OUTSTANDING fountain view. Well worth it, I think we would have been sol had I not given the $20. Go for it, it works. I have a pic of the room view if you want to email me. Find me on slickdeals, bigbearballs.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Upper Floor - Multiple View End Unit -King  from  Standard - Double

License, $20 (Sticking out), Credit Card sandwich. Checked in with another couple and we both got the same room bump , just one floor apart. Told clerk it was first trip to Vegas and asked if there was anything he could do to make the trip memorable. VERY HAPPY with the room bump!

Not much to say…We had high hopes it would work after reading all of the “success” stories here. We did exactly what everyone else had mentioned about putting a $20 between ID and credit card and very kindly asked if there were any fountain view rooms that might be available. The check in clerk (female about 25 years old) typed away for a few minutes and said sorry there’s nothing, but I can put you on a high floor. We got the 24th floor looking out to the mountains and in the distance was the pool at Caesars.
