Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Lakeview 32nd floor  from  Standard

I checked in at about 2 pm on a Tuesday. Did the standard $20 between CC and DL and asked if they had any lake view rooms available. I also told her that if she could find me a suite, I would give her another $100. She said she would have put me in a suite, but due to a current upgrades on suites, very few are available. But she did put me on the 32nd floor (Room 32020 to be exact). It was basically just one room off from the center of the main tower. Perfect view of the lake and the strip. I wish a suite would have been open because I am sure she would have given it to me. The upgrades on the suites are supposed to take a couple of months from what I understand.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Standard /w View  from  Standard Room

I did the old sandwich trick with the $20 bill and asked if there was a chance of a compimentary room upgrade. I made sure that only part of the bill was showing so that she knew that i was tipping her. she immediately took the credit card/ license sandwich and set it on the counter next to her and said “let me check for you”. It was obvious that she saw the money by the way she placed the cards to cover up the money. She said that she did have a fountain view room on the 25th floor and would be happy to upgrade us at no charge. She then picked up the cards and put the $20 very quickly and discretely into her jacket pocket. Awesome view and an awesome room!!

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Executive Suite  from  Penthouse Suite

I had booked the Penthouse Suite in 9/2006 after Expedia must have made a mistake and had the suite at $236/night.
When I arrived, I gave the $40 with my license and CC and asked for a fountain view. She said they did not have any, but she would see what she could do. She upgraded me from the 1500 SQ FT Penthouse Suite to a 2500 SQ FT Executive Suite in the Spa tower, which has LCD TV’s, etc. These are much newer and nice!! Well spent $40!

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Tower Deluxe Corner Room  from  Standard

Checked in on a Wednesday around 2:00 for two nights…..went with the $20 per night tip as a relative had tried just $20 the week before with mixed results. Put the money between my ID and CC and asked if they had any compimentary upgrades available. Clerk said “I am sure that we do”….played around on the computer for awhile and then offered me one of two rooms – a standard lake view room or the Tower Deluxe corner room. Even suggested I take the corner room and said to come back and see him if we were not happy. Also gave us a line pass for the buffet/cafe. Worked like a charm. Have asked for upgrades in the past with no tip and was always offered an upgrade with a extra charge ~ $60 per night. Definitely worth the $20 per night tip.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  lakeview 26th floor  from  standard

Gave the young male the clerk the $20 with credit card and ID. Ask about complimentary upgrade to Lakeview room. He replied that upgrades are always available so I knew we had picked the right guy, also when my dtr and son in law checked in a few days later we went right to the same clerk and he was able to put them on the same floor/view just a few doors down from us.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Corner with a view and HUGE bathroom  from  Standard

Best friend and I were there for a conference. We came in and looked for the most friendly clerk. Handed him the $20 between the credit card and id. He put it in his pocket as we asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He typed for a while, went to a phone, then came back. He had a big smile on his face and told us we would be very, very happy with the room. It was amazing. Huge corner room with a giant bathroom. It was a super busy week in Vegas, two large conventions going on. Every hotel was totally booked. We were thrilled that we were able to get an upgrade. One problem, we specifically said we needed two beds. The large corner room only had one king bed. The bellman, worth his weight in gold, had a cot sent up with no charge. It was just as comfortable as the regular bed.

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Lake View / High Floor  from  Standard Deluxe

Checked in Saturday midday for 3-night stay. Reception area extremely busy, with long lines. Showed the clerk a $100 bill and asked, “I’d like to see if there are any suite upgrades available.” She saw the bill, shook her head sadly and said no. I removed the $100 and replaced it with $40 and said, “Well, maybe there is something you can do to improve our room situation.” She came back immediately with a renovated, lake view, non-smoking room on a high floor. She took the $40 with a smile and I felt she would have gotten me a suite if she’d been able to. Rack rate differential between what we booked and where was landed is about $60/night on Expedia, so we were super happy!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Deluxe  from  Deluxe

Reserved and needed a room with 2 beds. Clerk attempted to find an upgraded room with 2 beds but could only offer a king. Declined the king and stuck with the original room. At least she returned the tip.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Lakeview  from  Deluxe

Checked in around 11:30. I was very tempted to try the $20 trick after reading about the high success rate. I looked for a cute, friendly check-in girl. Sure enough, in the middle there was a pretty blonde girl about 25. I did the $20 sandwiched in between id and credit card, showing just enough of the $20. I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available – she smiled and asked what type of room I was looking for. I replied with Lakeview Non-smoking. She also asked if it was for a special occasion – we said it was for our anniversary. She placed the $20 to the side by the computer and checked for about 30 seconds and found us a Lakeview non-smoking 23rd floor in the middle – perfect view!
She was very friendly and really appreciated the tip.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Partial lake view  from  Standard

Arrived on a marketing offer for rediculously low rates. Hotel was booked, being a summer Saturday arrival. Showed the $20 anyway. Clerk informed us we had low floor, no view, and there was nothing else available yet, to check back. Came back to another clerk a couple of hours later – offered a high floor with mountain view or room with partial lake view. We took the partial lake view and a bird’s eye view of giant Tony Braxton at the Flamingo. Gave the second clerk a $20 tip. Not much of an upgrade, but it did happen!
