We checked in for 2 nights, and when asked for credit card, I slipped a $20 with it and told the clerk that this visit was for my 40th birthday (true).
We got upgraded to a mini-suite, which the clerk said was used a lot for parties and large groups, so I consider the $20 trick a success.
Footnote: Unfortunately, the room decor was really dated and the bed was horribly uncomfortable! We ended up running back downstairs and getting a very nice king room with strip view that had clearly just been remodelled!
As you can probably read from few websites, the trick almost 100% works in LV Hilton. I got upgraded to business suite with TWO double-door entrance to the room, TWO bathrooms, one queen size bed, sofa, super large room (6 times larger than their deluxe room), business desk, and a mini bar with fridge. The suite is located on the EAST TOWER of the hotel. I was happy with the suite but prefer a newer room, king size bed, and a plasma TV. So I came down to the check-in counter and asked for a room change to NORTH or CENTRAL tower (I read somewhere that the North tower just got renovated). I finally got a deluxe room (not a suite) in the north tower. It was no Wynn-class room but I was happy. , I could be happier with LV Hilton. I would come back again in the future if they have good price like that.
Some recommendations:
* Apply for Hilton HHonor card free from hilton website. You can present this card when you check in and put the $20 in between HHonor card and your credit card. It does not matter if you don’t have any points in that card. It is only for showing that you are Hilton member.
* The shimmer cabaret at Hilton does have free show (I think daily) from 10PM to 1:30AM. I didn’t know about this until the last night. You only need to buy 1 drink inside. But you can also just watch it standing from outside free.
In conclusion about LV Hilton:
I was super happy with Hilton, especially with the $250 jackpot that I won on 1 cent slot machine. ^_^
Time: around 8PM
Price of Reservation: $140+tax (For 4 days 3 nights + $25 dining credit + 2 spa access + 2 cocktails)

Reserved a Deluxe King, got there at about 10pm, checked in with the $20 in plain sight and asked if any comp upgrades were available. She pulled out a big picture of what appeared to be my Deluxe King and said it was $50 extra a night. Told her that’s what I reserved and she said they were out of them. I’m like, wait a second, you tell me you’re out of them but I can upgrade to my room I reserved for $50??? What a bitch. She puts me in 2 queen bed room. I go to the room, its pretty crapy. Call down and talk to someone else and say I’m unhappy, and they magically now have a king room available. It’s a “classic” king (read: old) but I take it. That’s the last time I stay at the Hilton
Checked in 4 rooms at the LV Hilton this past Monday.
Placed $40 behind my CC card, liscense, etc.
Was offered only a better view with a high floor, and was asked if I “wanted change” for the $40. I took $20 back.
Check into Hilton 5/15 on the $138 (2 nights) Spa package and just asked for a upgrade and was given another jacuzzi suite with south view towards strip…I went back and tipped her $10 after I saw the room.
I folded a $20 under my Hilton HHonors card, passed it to the sweet young lady behind the counter and asked if any free upgrades were available. She looked at my bottom-rung blue Hilton card, started mumbling “I don’t…”, then picked up the card and saw the naked $20 on the counter. She all but said “oops”, retrieved the $20, and asked “What would you like?” I scored a spacious mini-suite with a whirlpool bath, fridge (she tried to send me a second), and a great view of the strip, all for four nights.
I spent two days in las vegas hilton. When I handed the $20 under my credit card to the check in lady. She smiled back and gave the money back. But she upgraded my room to a resort room… I will try next time. really fun
Got a new upgraded room on the 25th floor. Flat screen TV, fridge very contemporary rooms. AWESOME DEAL! $69 and the first in the new rooms!! Wished I did not have rese at MGM. But would have missed the lazy river at MGM.
I placed my ID, CC, and $20 on the counter, mentioned I was here celebrating my birthday and asked if there were any complementary room upgrades available; she seemed like she knew the drill. Also, returning to our room that night we found a gift basket (with fruits and nuts) with a birthday card on the counter of the mini-bar.
