I booked 2 rooms & asked for free buffets and was given 4. Checked in with the $20 & asked if upgrades were available. We were given strip view suites for $35 additional/night. I told her we were there for 2 birthdays & was told to see her Wednesday & she would comp 5 more buffets. I could not find her on Wednesday, so I bought 5 all day buffets & mentioned this at check-out & they took them off my bill! The Craps table was ROCKIN! Go there for the late shift. Rent a car for the Hoover dam & Grand Canyon. Uber to Freemont St!!! WILD!
So my birthday is tomorrow and I was very excited to try this ‘trick’ I’ve read all about…. any who I was directed to a young man and did the thing when he asked for my ID and CC
I got a little nervous because he wasn’t saying much other than asking about my plans (having stayed here before I knew the whole schpeal). Then he showed me a board with the different types of rooms and said something along the lines of “So we have a Tower premium King room available for you if you’d like” I had originally booked a Run of the House room so I was really rolling the dice here but I said “I was hoping for a suite with a tub”. He then said that they weren’t able to set up a complimentary suite but that he could get us a discount if we wanted to upgrade. It would be $35/night for the two nights we were staying. We declined and he put the $20 back on the counter along with my card and ID. He said we could take it back if we wanted. I decided to let him keep it.. mostly because I felt awkward about taking it back.
I was a little disappointed I could only get a Tower Premium King room only because I had read about people getting upgraded to these rooms just for asking without any cash. I guess this was an upgrade and I feel good about the $20 nonetheless since these rooms go for $15-$30 more per night than the run of house rooms and I ended up saving a few extra bucks. Plus I’d rather pay an actual person than MGM resorts.
Checked in around 4:30 on a Friday. Line was long, it was pretty busy. When clerks were free, a manager was pointing to the guest to the next available clerk.
I walked up to the lady behind the counter. I said “Hi, I’m checking in” and the friendly staff member asked for my ID and Credit Card. As I was handing it to her with the $20 sandwiched between the 2 cards I said “also, I was wondering if you had any complimentary upgrades available?” She responded by saying something along the lines of “let me check for you”.
Then we proceeded with small talk: “what brings you here, etc.”. It was also my birthday, so that may have helped as to why I also got the upgrade. I also requested for a later check out, but she explicitly said there’s a charge for that.
I reserved a Run of the House room through the Luxor website, and got upgraded to a to a Tower Deluxe Room.
Handed the clerk the $20, they went in the back room and checked something and came back and said yes they did have other rooms available. We were upgraded for the 4 days we were staying in Las Vegas. All of the staff at Luxor were customer service orientated through our stay there.
Did the trick while asking for any complimentary upgrades and got a suite. Arrived about 7pm.
Arrived late night Monday, waiting in line for the next clerk.. me and my buddy go to the counter and Peter is there to help us out. We throw in a 50$ sandwich just to be on the safe side (as the tip failed for me 8 years ago at the Excalibur, didnt want to go 0/2). My buddy actually slings it without saying a word, the clerk looks back at another agent behind them on the phone and after a few keyboard strokes we were updated to the Pyramid Suite. Unfortunately we asked if they could wipe the hotel fee’s (110$US for 5 nights) and they said no.
I arrived around 6pm on Friday. The line was long so i didn’t really target anyone. When I was next I actually was on the phone and I handed the clerk my ID and my Card with a $20 in between, didn’t say one word to her, 1 minute later when I was off the phone she just stated as far as upgraded she can give me a Pyramid Suite. I took it. She then asked what the $20 was for and I replied, for the upgrade. She stated its mandatory to ask. I honestly did not think it was gonna work, glad I tried!
No target, just randomly choose one, and tell him i want to upgrade. At first, he did it for me without looking at the sandwich i made, but later i told him to look at that, and he found it and express his appreciation.
Just went to first clerk. Was friendly and asked for complimentary upgrade. She was only able to waive fee for early check in and I kindly declined and she asked me to come back in 2 hours after all rooms were cleaned. She said don’t stand in line, just come back to her. She then gave us a great upgrade.
We checked in at 7pm on Friday 11/8/13. Went up to a young Asian man, did the $20 trick asked if they had any upgrades and he said they could only upgrade us to a tower room because it was veterans weekend.
