We didn’t target anybody because it was very busy, did early check in at 1pm. I put the $20 in between my cc and ID and asked him if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He just said “I’ll see what I can do.” After talking and making small talk he also said he was going to give us a $75 food credit and free parking! I think we did really good!
No target, just randomly choose one, and tell him i want to upgrade. At first, he did it for me without looking at the sandwich i made, but later i told him to look at that, and he found it and express his appreciation.
We booked 3 nights in Feb 2019, it was our first Vegas trip together as a couple. My boyfriend told me about this $20 trick and I thought he was crazy to actually do it at first, but he thoroughly did his research. We waited in line for about 20 mins (around noon) and were called over by a male employee with a cheerful smile, so we were feeling pretty good. Sandwiched the bill between the cards and handed it to him, my boyfriend asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available, you know the deal. He set it off to the side and got right to it. We originally booked the most basic room but he upgraded us to a newly remodeled tower room with a soaking tub (not jetted) and a strip view- this upgrade is typically an extra $20 A NIGHT! The tower is quite luxurious and looks great with the remodel. The staff member said “thanks for the tip!” after some small talk and sent us on our way to the elevator. Overall we were extremely happy with our experience and felt like total ballers.
we walked in really nervous and my girlfriend was sweaty. we put the $20 bill between the cards as the website said. we prepared it in line and approached the clerk. her name was Bri and we briefly made small talk, handed a sandwiched $20, and ask for any complimentary upgrades. she said she would check her system and found an upgraded room at the west tower with a king bed, from our original Queen bed in the pyramid, which is smaller. the room turned out to have been accidentally booked with another occupant. having had to return to the lobby they rebooked us properly on a higher floor along with complimentary buffet. frontdesktip turns out to be a success!
It was about 12 am… we waited in line to check in… my husband put a 20 between our ids and asked what complimentary upgrades were available… we got an upgraded room in the newly renovated tower and then we said we had a car and he gave us free parking …
Didn’t target a clerk, as it was Monday at noon, not too busy and it seemed like all would upgrade.
We sandwiches the 20$ between passport and credit card and asked if there was anything she could do for our last night in Vegas. She offered buffet and pyramid suite. I asked if it was possible to have the tower suite instead, she said that none were ready right now to comp. I accepted as buffet plus suite seemed good.
Put $20 in passport, check in person was very friendly and offered us a complimentary suite and vouchers for buffet for 2. Not that scary!
My friends and I like to drive in from LA late at night to avoid traffic. I booked a standard 2 queen pyramid room using my MLife points, so my room was $39 (w/o resort fees). It was my 3rd time doing the trick so I felt pretty confident and played the part when checking in. Simply gave her my ID and card with the $20 in between, and did not even have to say anything besides asking how she was doing. Given it was 1am on a Thursday night and we were checking out the next day, if any rooms were open they were not going to be used that night. She told us what room we booked, and where she was going to put us. We were upgraded to a suite with a hot tub on the 20th floor, and also waived our $15 parking. Pretty good deal if you ask me.
The clerk asked for my ID and credit card. I had the $20 ready and between the ID and the card. I handed them to her and she immediately slid the $20 back to me. I said “I was hoping you could check to see if there are any complementary upgrades available” and she said “there are upgrades available but you will have to pay the difference”. She seemed to be offended and did not make any small talk with us and was not friendly at all. She never asked why we were there, which happened to be for our 20th wedding anniversary. So I was hoping we could get something comped, but we didn’t get anything. Very disappointing.
We checked in at 7pm on Friday 11/8/13. Went up to a young Asian man, did the $20 trick asked if they had any upgrades and he said they could only upgrade us to a tower room because it was veterans weekend.
