The Las Vegas residency has changed a lot over the years. It used to be where a resident performer was actually a resident at a the property and performed regularly at the casino. Residencies have come a long way. They no longer involve being much of a resident to a casino or even Las Vegas.
Celine Dion and Britney Spears may have long-term residencies but the majority of “residency” shows are short term runs that may not be entirely exclusive to Las Vegas. Today, most residency shows include multiple performances in a year but they aren’t year-round events. In fact, one of the most popular new residencies in Las Vegas, George Strait’s Strait To Vegas, started with only 6 shows.
The new Las Vegas residency shows for 2016 offer something for just about everyone. Here’s a look at a handful of the new residencies that you’ll find in Las Vegas this year.
Billy Idol
Mandalay Bay
Billy Idol: Forever will feature his greatest hits. There are six shows in March and six more in May at the House of Blues inside Mandalay Bay.

George Strait
T-Mobile Arena
This will be the largest residency show that Las Vegas has seen. Straight To Vegas will take place at the 20,000 capacity T-Mobile Arena behind New York-New York. Due to popular demand tickets have already one on sale for 2017 shows.

Jennifer Lopez
Planet Hollywood
J. Lo will share the Axis Theater stage with Britney Spear and Lionel Richie. As you might expect All I Have will feature hits from throughout her career.

John Fogerty
The Venetian
The Fortunate Son In Concert series is one of the shorter residencies you’ll see this year. The show will include Creedence Clearwater Revival classics as well as Fogerty’s solo hits.

Lionel Richie
Planet Hollywood
Lionel will join Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez with a residency at the Axis Theater inside Planet Hollywood. “Lionel Richie – All the Hits,” will feature his most popular songs including “All Night Long,” “Hello,” “Say You, Say Me,” and “Dancing on the Ceiling.”
