Saved:  $$67 Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Luxury Suite  from  Luxury Suite

We came in around 8:00am Thursday morning (early flight). We got a woman, probably late 20’s (she was the only one available). I handed her my card, license, and $50 between. She took the them and slipped the $50 under the keyboard. I asked if they had any upgrades since it was our anniversary (not a lie). I told her my boss had stayed there before (also not a lie) and stayed in the renaissance suite. She said she couldn’t comp that, the most she could do was comp the resort fee and find us a room earlier than 3:00 check in at no cost. The resort fee is $39 a day so in theory I saved $67 plus we didn’t have to pay for early check-in, but I was hoping $50 during the holiday season would’ve gotten me more. I would probably try it again but I wouldn’t expect as much. Before we left, she did ask if the money was for her. I told her yes and have a merry christmas. This was during the week of the NFR in town so they may have been booked up.

Saved:  $$608, but $1008 if you count the additional occupants fee being waived. Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Unsure  from  Bella Suite

I stayed at the Venetian and the place was packed due to a big convention.
Anyway, at 4pm I slipped the girl at the random check-in a $50 and asked if there were any upgrades available for my two, non strip view Bella suites. She said that she had to check.
She came back with an offer of a strip view room at the Palazzo nest door, but the deal started the next day and the six of us didn’t want to move so…

I then asked if she could waive the resort fees and the fee for adding a fridge for two rooms for four days and she did!!!

So $50 saved me $408 in resorts fees ($102 x 4) and $200 for the two fridges. ($50 x 4)
Plus she saw that I had two kids and didn’t add them? That was $50 each per night I think. So another $400 saved!

In conclusion, $50 up front got me $608 off total, $1008 if you count the kids discount.

Lastly, I only spent $30 gambling, so that wasn’t a factor as some say. I did spend hundreds and hundreds though on Zip lines, Virtual reality, $100 lunches – burgers and shakes. (Sugar Factory)

As an added bonus we missed hurricane Michael that roared through my city as a Cat 1.

Saved:  $$45 Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Bella Suite  from  Bella Suite

We got there on Friday night at around 10 pm and there was a line as well as a ton of people working the counter. We looked to see who seemed the friendliest and were hoping to get this person. Luckily for us, we did! He asked for DL and CC and we sandwiched the $20 between then and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He said, “let me see what I have.” We explained what we were doing there (just a one-night trip to have a little fun) and that it was our first time staying at the Venetian. He said that he didn’t have anything there, but he could look at the Palazzo if we want. We agreed and he kept typing. We told him that we were leaving on Saturday evening around 8 pm and then presented what he found.

He said that he could give us a suite on a higher floor as well as a room with a view. In addition (I’ve never received this one before in all of my times doing the “sandwich”), he was able to get us a late check-out without a charge. The time of check-out: 5:30 pm!! I have NEVER experienced that before and it was clutch because we were still able to sleep in, play at the casino, and leave our bags in the room until we were ready to head to the airport.

Saved:  $$400 Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Piazza Suite  from  Luxury Suite

We had booked through Priceline and got a luxury suite for $95 with a resort fee. We visited the Venetian in December on a weekend and tried the $20 trick. It was almost 10:30 on Friday evening and the line was short when we walked it to the front desk.

We had a front desk clerk who was in his early 30s and was the next available clerk in the line. I sandwiched the $20 tip between my credit card and my ID and handed it to him without any requests for an upgrade. He put the $20 tip aside and immediately said that he takes care of all of his customers. He did some checking and made two phone calls and was able to get us a Palazzo suite on the top floor facing the strip without any additional upgrade money.

I did some checking in this suite is valued at almost $500 in December. He jokingly said he hoped that the extra space would not be too much for us.

After arranging for the room he asked if he if we needed any change for the 20 dollars and I said no.

The room was amazing! It worked better than I ever could imagined.

I checked in at 9am on the Thursday before the Super Bowl and targeted a young female clerk. I handed her the $50 sandwich and she slid it under the keyboard and started typing away.
She offered me a recently renovated room at the Palazzo, which I declined, but she was able to put my wife and I on the 30th floor with a strip view at the Venetian.
In addition she waived the resort fees, had a mini-fridge delivered to the room, comped is the upgraded internet, and gave us a late checkout.
The upgrade was epic, the customer service was outstanding, and we will look forward to retuning asap!

Saved:  $$360 (before deducting the tip I gave) Tipped:  $100 Upgraded to  Luxury Suite  from  Luxury Suite

We got to The Venetian after a long drive. Bypassed the drive line that said “Hotel Registration” and just self-parked. There was a pretty long line at the check-in, so we really weren’t able to pick who we went to. The woman that we got was in her mid-thirties and really nice. I handed over my ID and credit card with a $100 bill sandwiched between. She asked if I wanted change and when I said no, she said “Let me see what I can do for you.” Only took a few minutes of her typing at her keyboard to find out what she was willing to offer. Since the pool at the Venetian was under construction and the room we had booked (the lowest Luxury Suite) was on a low floor facing the noise, she bumped us up to The Palazzo and to the 28th floor with a strip view far away from the noise of the construction and away from the elevators. This upgrade is usually $45 extra a night. Then she asked if we were going to use the gym or any other of the resort amenities. Told her that I would only be using the WiFi, so she then took off the resort fees. All in all, we got a better room, better view and saved a total of $260, after we deduct the $100 I tipped. Definitely worth it!!

Saved:  $$350-$400 Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Luxury Suite  from  Luxury Suite

Went into the queue, didn’t target anyone specifically. The young lady I wound up working with was super friendly from the get go which was a relief as this was my first time using the trick. She asked for my license to begin check in so I handed her the sandwich and asked if any upgrades were available. She said ‘sure let me see what we can do’. I have family staying in other suites who’d all asked to be near one another so she asked me about that – told her same tower would be great but I’d prefer a higher floor. She seemed somewhat apologetic that the best she could do in the Venetian tower was the 24th floor but assured me it was a strip view. She was also kind enough to get me a fridge at no cost and waive the resort fees. Based on our discussion I feel like I might’ve gotten a bigger room if I didn’t care which tower but in the end I’m quite pleased with the overall location and freebies for my $50 investment.

We thought we’d try our luck and hoped for early check in when we arrived at 12:15pm (check in wasn’t until 3:00pm). We were guided to a clerk automatically, so we didn’t have a choice on that front, but she was an older woman who took our $20 sandwich with no issues. We didn’t even have to ask, she just automatically said “I’d be more than happy to help you both, let’s see what I can do for you!”

We received the following: an upgraded, larger “Medici Suite” in the Venezia Tower on the top floor for those suites, great view overlooking the strip and the Mirage volcano, late check out (2:00pm), and free in-suite dining breakfast on both days (a $75 dollar value each morning). Highly recommend trying out the sandwich!

I didn’t get to pick a clerk as all were busy so it was just the first one that became available. It was a Monday evening around 8pm. When the clerk asked for the credit card and Id I handed both over with the 20 sandwiched in and politely asked and was told he would check. He couldn’t upgrade our room style but put us on a higher floor with views of the strip and mountains. He waived the charge for this and waived the resort fees

Check in on Monday evening and was fairly busy so couldn’t pick a clerk. I placed $20 between ID and credit card and asked for politely if there were any complimentary upgrades available. The clerk put the $20 to one side and asked a few questions about how far we travelled and if it was our first time in Vegas then said yes he can upgrade us. The clerk put us on a higher floor with views of the strip and mountain range in the distance. The clerk waived the resort fee charges and the charge for the upgraded room with view
