Random Girl on the check in desk at around 3pm on a Thursday
I asked for Strip view room as we already had the luxury room non strip view. I was told it would be an extra $260 for the week ,I said no thanks and then slipped $20 into my passport at which point the girl said let me just check again and see if i can get you that upgrade free of charge.

We got put in the Tower and had an amazing view of the Mirage Caesers and Ti .

Went to the Ventian front desk. Went to the first available person. Slid $50 in between my license and credit card. Didnt say anything about the cash. The check in person asked if I wanted any change, I said it’s all here. She started typing away, asked if we had a special occasion I said it was out 5 yr anniversary. She ended up moving us to a suite in The Palazzo which was an upgrade from the basic room.

I stayed at the Venetian and the place was packed due to a big convention.
Anyway, at 4pm I slipped the girl at the random check-in a $50 and asked if there were any upgrades available for my two, non strip view Bella suites. She said that she had to check.
She came back with an offer of a strip view room at the Palazzo nest door, but the deal started the next day and the six of us didn’t want to move so…

I then asked if she could waive the resort fees and the fee for adding a fridge for two rooms for four days and she did!!!

So $50 saved me $408 in resorts fees ($102 x 4) and $200 for the two fridges. ($50 x 4)
Plus she saw that I had two kids and didn’t add them? That was $50 each per night I think. So another $400 saved!

In conclusion, $50 up front got me $608 off total, $1008 if you count the kids discount.

Lastly, I only spent $30 gambling, so that wasn’t a factor as some say. I did spend hundreds and hundreds though on Zip lines, Virtual reality, $100 lunches – burgers and shakes. (Sugar Factory)

As an added bonus we missed hurricane Michael that roared through my city as a Cat 1.

Checked in shortly after noon on a Sunday for a four-night stay. There was a short line, so we didn’t get to pick our check-in person. Was nervous that we got a tough one, but when I handed her the sandwich with a $100 bill in the middle, she lit right up and said “I’lm going to take great care of you, sir!”

I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available and she asked me what I was looking for. I told her the Piazza Suites looked amazing and she said she would see what she could do.

After about ten minutes in the back, she came back and told us that we could wait to see if a Piazzo Suite opened up if we were dead set on that, or she could put us into a Hospitality Suite that was actually a little bit bigger. We took the sure thing and headed up to our Hospitality Suite.

Our Hospitality Suite had the same size and layout of the Prima Suites, and it was stunning. It had a massive master bathroom, as well as a second bathroom. There was a standard mini bar under the main TV, but also an empty fridge under the full-size bar area that we stocked with much cheaper drinks from the nearby Walgreens.

The $100 Front Desk Tip was the best money we spend the entire time we were in Vegas. Thank you so much for all the helpful tips and suggestions that everyone has contributed to this site. Without your help, we probably would have just assumed the tip was an urban legend and not even tried it.

We arrived during the middle of an 80,000 person convention so I knew that it would be unlikely to get a complete room upgrade, but after reading reviews on this site, I thought I’d try it anyway. I decided to give $40 as we were staying 3 nights (If I was only staying 1 or 2 nights I would have given $20).

There was a long line at check-in but we finally got directed to a young lady in her 20s (didn’t get the chance to target anyone). I put the $40 in between our passports and credit card when she asked for them over. She immediately asked if I would be interested in a complimentary upgrade. When I said I would be, she put us on the 32nd floor with an incredible view of the strip. She also said that she would wave the resort fee of $45 for our stay.

She asked if there was anything else she could do for us. At this point I was pretty certain that I could also get a late check out, but we didn’t need it as we were driving back to LA early on our last day. All in all it was a success and if it had been less busy we might have even got a full room upgrade.

Checked in around 3PM and was quite busy. I was unable to select a clerk so got directed to one.
I put $50 between my Amex and passport, she saw the $50 and pushed it up towards the desk.
I ask if there are any piazza suite upgrades, she said none are available complimentary but at a reduced rate, which I declined.
She then put me on the 33rd floor with a strip and mountain view. I also asked if she could come the retire fee which she happily did.
So $50 saved me the $40 per day view upgrade and €309 in resort fees.

We arrived late (midnight) on Thursday, and there was a 10 minute wait to check-in, and I was psyching myself up because this was the first time I was trying this. Nobody else seemed to be tipping, so I was unsure about how much to give, but I went with my gut and did $20. The clerk was a young guy, who seemed eager to please. I sandwiched the money between my credit card and ID, and asked if there were any “complementary upgrades”. Upon seeing the money, he went to work, asking us what we wanted and delivering. I was traveling with three other people, but booked a king room instead of paying more for the Bella room and I was nervous they would call me out and charge the outrageous “extra person fee” for the two additional people (about $50 per person per day!). Instead, he upgraded us to the Bella room and asked how many keycards I needed. He also waived the resort fees, something I also detest, without me even bring it up. Overall, the entire experience was excellent. I paid $20 for about $500 worth of savings in the end.

I slipped a $20 at check-in and was upgraded to strip view and waived resort fee which I was very happy with.

Just finished a stay at the Venetian celebrating my son’s 21st birthday. I booked 2 low-end suites and decided to try $100 to upgrade both. I didn’t target a specific clerk as I thought a c-note should do the trick with whoever. We arrived at approximately noon and hoped for an early check in since check in begins at 3:00. We made small talk with a female clerk (20 something) then I handed her the sandwich and asked her to check for upgrades. She asked me if I was looking for something special and selection would be limited since the hotel was sold out. I mentioned things like a larger suite, a suite higher up with a strip view, coupons, passes, waive resort fees…whatever she could come up with to make this trip special. We ended up in the same type suite with a partial strip view but she waived the resort fees for both suites meaning I was coming out +170 dollars for that and $50 a night for both suites for a strip view. I was really hoping for a couple larger suites but still feel I made out on the deal. Fourth time trying this and the third time it worked.

I was directed from the line to a young lady who was working the desk and she asked for my ID and CC. I handed her what she asked for, with a $20 folded on top in plain sight. She grabbed it and started typing. I proceeded to inform her that we have one extra person with us, going to be staying in the room, and that I hoped she could accommodate us. Me and my father booked the room but my mom later decided to tag along on our trip. She told me that it’s no problem and she set us up with a premium view suite with a fold out couch bed. She then asked if we were planning to use the gym or the wifi and I said only the wifi. She then informed us that the resort fee would be comped, and she told me to pull out my phone. She assisted me with comp wifi login and never mentioned the “extra person fee” of $50 per day. She gave us three room keys and off we went. Savings of ~$100 per day and we were staying for three days. The room is very nice and the wifi is fast AF.
