Saved:  $Around $160 Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Bella Suite  from  Luxury Suite

I checked in on Sunday about 10:45 p.m. There was no line, so I was just waiting for the next available desk person.

After we said hello, I asked the nice woman if I was eligible for any complimentary upgrades. I handed the nice woman my credit card, $40, ID, and Player’s Card. She took the “sandwich” and played it real cool–I wasn’t sure that she even saw it!

She poked around on her computer a bit and then gave me the good news: I was being upgraded from the Venetian Luxury Suite to the Palazzo Bella Suite! It has more square footage, oversize bathroom, generous living area, a view of the Strip, and 2 queen beds. She also gave me late checkout (which I always ask for, so this was just a bonus)!

It’s a lovely room and I totally feel spoiled!

Didn’t target any specific clerk. Handed $40 in between ID and CC. Was originally booked for Venetian on low floor, they upgraded us to higher floor on palazzo which has bigger rooms and at the time pools were not under construction like in Venetian. Giant suite- very nice

We got to The Venetian after a long drive. Bypassed the drive line that said “Hotel Registration” and just self-parked. There was a pretty long line at the check-in, so we really weren’t able to pick who we went to. The woman that we got was in her mid-thirties and really nice. I handed over my ID and credit card with a $100 bill sandwiched between. She asked if I wanted change and when I said no, she said “Let me see what I can do for you.” Only took a few minutes of her typing at her keyboard to find out what she was willing to offer. Since the pool at the Venetian was under construction and the room we had booked (the lowest Luxury Suite) was on a low floor facing the noise, she bumped us up to The Palazzo and to the 28th floor with a strip view far away from the noise of the construction and away from the elevators. This upgrade is usually $45 extra a night. Then she asked if we were going to use the gym or any other of the resort amenities. Told her that I would only be using the WiFi, so she then took off the resort fees. All in all, we got a better room, better view and saved a total of $260, after we deduct the $100 I tipped. Definitely worth it!!

Luckily received clerk at right end. Very pleasant to speak with and acknowledged the sandwich right away. Even asked if I needed change, which I declined. It was 3PM, right at check-in time. We were meant to stay on a lower floor, but were upgraded to the 31st floor with a few of the strip. Saved $60 (minus the $20)

Saved:  $470 Tipped:  $100 Upgraded to  Luxury Suite  from  Luxury Suite

Just finished a stay at the Venetian celebrating my son’s 21st birthday. I booked 2 low-end suites and decided to try $100 to upgrade both. I didn’t target a specific clerk as I thought a c-note should do the trick with whoever. We arrived at approximately noon and hoped for an early check in since check in begins at 3:00. We made small talk with a female clerk (20 something) then I handed her the sandwich and asked her to check for upgrades. She asked me if I was looking for something special and selection would be limited since the hotel was sold out. I mentioned things like a larger suite, a suite higher up with a strip view, coupons, passes, waive resort fees…whatever she could come up with to make this trip special. We ended up in the same type suite with a partial strip view but she waived the resort fees for both suites meaning I was coming out +170 dollars for that and $50 a night for both suites for a strip view. I was really hoping for a couple larger suites but still feel I made out on the deal. Fourth time trying this and the third time it worked.

We checked in at midnight on a Friday. Even at midnight there was a slight line and probably 10 registration clerks working, so did not have a choice of clerks.
We asked for the clerk to waive our resort fees for our 3 night stay and she said she couldn’t do that as “they were now hard coded into the system”. I’m not sure if that’s true. She upgraded our view to a premium view and gave us late checkout. She then asked if we needed change for our money and we told her it was for her so she discreetly dropped the twenty in her pocket. She was very nice.

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Rialto Suit  from  Bella Suite

Targeted a younger guy, no particular reason why. It was about Friday around 9PM – and we said nothing to get upgraded, he just checked us in and started asking us what type of upgrade we wanted. Waived resort fees and gave us late check-out. Couldn’t have been easier.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Luxury Suite  from  Luxury Suite

This was a big nothing. I am an ambassador member so I am supposed to get a room upgrade anyway. I got what I booked and paid for but only a slightly higher floor which I would have gotten anyway. I do not believe I will go back to the Venetian again. It was just ok – and for that – I will stay somewhere else next time.

We arrived slightly early for check in. I chose the first clerk available (younger man – 25-30 yrs old at the Ambassador check in desk) and he quickly took the money without saying a word. I asked if there were any upgrades available and whether anything could be done with the resort fee. We got a lot of nothing and he did not even pretend to want to give the $20 back. He gave us a code for faster internet but I don’t see any value in that. He said that we were getting an upgrade but as I said, it was not much of an upgrade and I am supposed to get one anyway for my ambassador membership. We were otherwise charged the full ride with full cost resort fees, etc.

If I had it to do over, I would put the $20 in the slot machine rather than give it to this guy because he not only did not do us any favors, he failed to explain anything about the hotel and he did not tell us that we had a casino credit that we just needed to activate. He also messed up our check in so that the hotel charged my credit card an extra $863. After taking a lot of our time and giving us the general run around, they finally fixed it. Thank goodness I had proof that I had already paid part of the bill as a deposit when I booked! If I was someone who needed the credit on my card for other things, I would have been in a real pickle because it took nearly a week to get that bogus charge off my card. It was not an issue for us but I could see how it would really put a damper on Vegas if we needed that credit.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  palazzo siena  from  venetian piazza

Checked in about noon. There was a line so there was little choice, but I almost got an older female. Put the $20 sandwich on the counter, and when she separated the ID from the credit card she handed the 20 back for a second until I quietly suggested it was for her. It then vanished.

A bit of typing and a phone call later and I was off to the 46th floor of the Palazzo.

The Siena suites cost a lot more than Piazza yet are slightly smaller but are apparently a lot nicer.

Didn’t have a view of the strip but that’s fine with me.

Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Palozzo Luxury Suite 19th Floor- Strip View   from  Luxury Suite

I arrived at the hotel early (around 2pm), there was no line but all the front desk clerks were busy. Suddently .. drum roles.. a young gal call me over. I told her i had RSVP for the Venetian. I proceeded to give her my ID and C/C and $50 bill in between and ask do you have any complimentary upgrades available? And her response Oh yes! Let me check… went to her computer and started typing away. She offered me the same room but over at the Palazzo with beautiful stip view and view of the fountain/pool. She also allowed us for a later check out time (2PM), which was NICE. She gave us our room key then proceeded to give me about 6 complimentary drinks at several locations. Overall i think this trick was well worth it!! Try it everyone!!
