This worked at the Palazzo!! I gave her the ‘sandwich’, she tried to hand it back to me (acted like she was surprised), and that’s when I asked for the ‘complimentary room upgrade’. She said she can definitely do it and offered a higher floor with a strip view (which is $50 more per night). Total savings 150-20 = 130!!!
Walked up to the counter, handed her the sandwhich, she asked if I needed change, I told her no, that I had some requests when I made the reservation and if she could get those it would be for her, she then said she had rooms that we could pay to upgrade but to give her a second to check the reservation, she said she saw where I requested a strip view and started typing, she said nothing was available and handed the $20 back.
Ok this worked so well I cant wait to do it agian. I did the sandwich upon check in asking if I could get an upgrade. Male Clerk took the DL CC and 20 bucks. I really did not see what he did with the 20 he was very fast. He told me YES I will forsure upgrade you. He told me that I had been pre-booked into a 4th floor basic suite no view. Then he told me i will get you on the 31st floor with the best view in the hotel and a fully redone suite. Once we got to our room we were blown away at the view of the strip, the flat panal tv’s even a tv in the bathroom. Also the curtains were remote controlled, very cool. I have stayed at the Venetian several times before and love the rooms but this was by far the best room I have ever stayed in. 20 trick was WAY WORTH IT!!!!! Thanks to this website I now know the secert.
This was at The Palazzo…we arrived around midnight. We were the only people checking in so I looked for the youngest woman and approached with the 20 between credit card and drivers licence.I asked if there was any upgrades available at least to a higher floor.she made the 20 disappear rather quickly and we got a beauty room on the 44th floor overlooking the strip.Get a Club Grazie(players card)and use it!!! We are not big gamblers but it took care of about a 150.00 in food…Phantom of Opera tickets….a limo to the airport. We got to the airport and our flight was cancelled so I called back to Palazzo and they gave a room for the night no charge.Great place!!
This was at the Palazzo.
I asked if one of the premium Fontana Suites was available. She checked with someone in back, and said that all 24 were taken. She also gave a voucher for a dessert at the Grand Luxe.
Put the $20 under the ledge behind the counter after asking him if he has any upgrades. He said I didn’t need to give him a tip. He tried to give a good upgrade but had difficulty, so he had to ask the manager to come over and move people around. I had two other friends staying in different rooms and they both did the same thing and we ended up with the same Rialto accommodations!
Checked in at the end of the CES/start of AEE weekend at 9AM (nice and early) for a two-night stay. Short to no line, very relaxed (relatively speaking). Cited anniverary and handed over a fifty in between the CC and DL. Clerk seemed surprised, asked if we needed change. I said “it’s for you if you can help us out” with any upgrades. Specifically mentioned Rialto since I’m a fan of lots of floorspace. She went back for a few minutes, brought out another person (possibly a manager) who told us Rialtos were all booked up for the first night, but they set us up with a 23rd-floor Bella suite with a fantastic view of the pools, TI, and Mirage. The next night they gave us a choice of staying or going to the Rialto we wanted. We took the Rialto, and didn’t regret it, although the view in the first room could not be beaten. In short, the tip is tremendous, given the right clerk and time of year: we got two fantastic rooms out of a cheap Priceline reservation. Will try every time I’m in town.
I’m not sure if the “upgraded” suite with the view was worth an extra $20 ($10 a night since we stayed there 2 nights), but it was nice that the trick worked and that the clerk didn’t embarrass me by giving my money back.
I tried a $40 trick at Venetian over New Year’s Eve (first mistake I guess…) to try and get one of the larger suites (I forget what they’re called but I knew at the time I asked). They guy checked and then said he didn’t have any but we had been pre-blocked into a Strip-view room on a high floor. I was a little unsure what to do at this point. He didn’t seem to be waiting for the money, and since it was pre-blocked he really didn’t deliver anything to deserve it, so I didn’t give him anything.
Turns out we did NOT have a strip-view room. Not sure if it was an honest error or what, but I’m glad I didn’t tip him!
Slipped him 20 dollars and he upgraded us to a higher suite with a better view. Checked in early(around 1) and was the same weekend as the mayweather/hatten fight and still got an upgrade. The tip definitely does work.
