Checked in at 11:30pm for a 3 night stay (Sunday- Wednesday)

Booked air and room package with Travelocity
(Deluxe room, non smoking, 2 double beds)

Didn’t target any clerk, just took first available.

Put $20 between I.D. and CC. Explained it was my GF bday the Friday before and asked if there were any type of upgrades available. He asked a couple questions, bed preference, smoking, what type of view (high roller, pool, strip)

I said it didn’t really matter if it was a nicer room.

Ended up with a king suite with view of pool.
(2 bath, living room, bedroom, small kitchenette…)

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  King Suite  from  Deluxe King

Was very busy when we came in about 1130 and didn’t have a chance to target anyone. The gentleman who waited on us I could immediately tell he wasn’t going for it. We put a $20 in between drivers license and credit card and he kind of laughed. He offered us a paid upgrade to the King Suite for $30 a night which we accepted because it was the room we wanted. Let him keep the $20 even though he offered to give it back, it was worth a shot!

We just queue up for the general link, we ask if any upgrading available, she said it was during concert so the hotel was full… and no upgrade. Or add 50 per day for the suite, so we refused.

The clerk was a middle aged brunette Caucasian woman at express check-in. I am a young Caucasian male and I checked in on a Sunday around noon.
I did the $20 sandwich and politely asked her if she had any complementary room upgrades. She said we could pay $30 extra per night for an upgrade. I said no thank you and she gave me back my $20. There was a convention going on so perhaps that’s is why it didn’t work. #epicfail

This was my first time using this trick. It was 6/18/11, Saturday, 3:30pm. Front Desk name was a caucasion male, between 25-30. I didn’t target this person. I wanted to test this trick random. Gave the sandwiched $20 between my DL & CC, and asked, “You have any free room upgrades?” Within two minutes he gave me the King Suite, which is two upgrades from my original room of a Deluxe. If he said no, and took my tip, I wouldn’t have thrown a fit. It would’ve been added to my gambling loss for that trip. I’d do it again and again! Just give it a try.

I booked a room for my husband and I on Cyber Monday and got a deal – $17.00 per night for a “deluxe” room. I have read horror stories about IP but the deal was too good to pass up. We checked in early at 1pm. There was no line up. Our clerk was young and very friendly. I put the $20 in my passport and headed up to him. After some friendly small chat I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He seemed really surprised by my question and was like “Um…” and I looked down at my passport. He noticed the $20 and again looked surprised and started laughing and said in an upbeat tone “Well maybe!”…a couple minutes later we were fully checked in and he handed us our room keys. He said if we didn’t like the room we couldn’t complain! (said with a wink and a smile). He knew it was our wedding anniversary and put us on the 10th floor in one of the newer towers. Our room was actually a suite! And everything looked recently renovated. New carpet, couches, chairs, TWO 40 inch flat screen tvs and a new king sized bed. We could not have asked for more and were so grateful to be given this suite for the duration of our stay!!! All of the staff at IP were amazing. We have zero complaints and will be back soon!

Paid for the standard room for 1 night which was about $80 after fees. I got in at 11pm and there was only 2 females about mid 20’s checking people in but I felt comfortable that the sandwich would work. She upgraded the room with no problem. King Suite, no view of the high roller but you could see across the street at Caesars Palace Shops and the Mirage.

Arrived around 7 pm, didn’t get to ‘choose’ a clerk as the desk was quite busy and there were quite a few people in line. When it was our turn, I handed the clerk my passport with $20 tucked inside (out of sight) and my credit card sticking out. She asked for the name the room was booked under, I replied and then politely asked if there were possibly any complimentary room upgrades available. She worked away at her computer a bit, and then said she could upgrade us from a deluxe double to a deluxe king, usually another $20/night for no charge. She did say the room wasn’t ready so we’d need to wait a bit for it to be cleaned, which was fine. She also gave us 8 comp drink tickets for one of the clubs at another property in the same hotel group. When she finally got to my passport and credit card, she saw the $20, asked if it was for her and then said we didn’t have to do that and gave it back!

Checked in on Thursday in December at 7:00 at night. Unknown to me the Bull Ridding Championship was in town. This is the Superbowl of bull riding so the whole town was PACKED! Little bit of a wait to check in and got the first available clerk. The young girl took my ID and CC and saw the twenty and looked at me and said there are no upgrades available, they are packed. She then gave me the $20 back and checked me in to my standard room. At least i got the $20 back so no harm in trying.
