I’d say it was a busy weekend, got there with a little hope that this trick would work. Checked in around 2pm, slipped in $20 between my ID and Credit Card, and asked if we can get a complementary upgrade. She said ‘I’ll see what I can do for you’, and upgraded a deluxe room in 19th floor with a strip view and balcony. Not bad, saved around $80 total for 2 nights, could’ve paid a lot more 🙂
We arrived at around 4:30 PM and waited in line for about 10 minutes. I put the $20 between my ID and Credit Card. I asked the clerk about a King Bed and non-smoking room. The clerk started typing and when she noticed the $20 she became very friendly and I then asked about any upgrades that were available. She said that she would take care of it. She haded us our key card and when we went to the 27th floor we had a great view of the Strat with a King Bed and an enormous bathroom.
We booked the Deluxe Room in advance, with hopes of upgrading. We arrived right at check-in (3PM) and got a really friendly clerk who chatted with us. I slipped the $20 between my ID and credit card, and asked about a complimentary upgrade. She said, “I’ll see what I can find,” set the tip by the keyboard, and typed for a few minutes. She said she found a suite, but it only had one bed (when we had requested two). I asked about getting a rollaway bed (which she said would cost about $10 per night), and she secured the room. We got a suite at the top floor of the Tangiers Tower, and it was really nice — sitting area, bar with fridge, and a big walk-in closet.
slipped the twenty under the credit card, asked him if there was any upgrades available, his response was there no such thing here buddy! I did get the twenty back though. That’s what you call a “push” in Blackjack.
Upon Check-in we slipped him the $20 between the cc and drivers license. We asked if there were any complementary upgrades. I’m not to sure if he knew what was going on though. He said it’s a really busy week because of NASCAR and there is nothing really open. He then gave us back the $20. He did say there was a smoking suite open but he would have to talk to the manager about giving it to us. I’m think he thought we were high rollers and that’s why we asked for an upgrade (we are not). We said so it wasn’t worth it for him to go through the trouble of talking to the manager. He typed away on the computer for awhile and gave us a room with a somewhat view of the strip, but I’m not to sure if it was because we tried to tip him.
Checked in about 5:30 or so, very pleasant front desk clerk, stuck the $20.00 bill in between the credit card and license, and got us a 2 room room suite, top floor of the Tangiers Tower. Room was nice, carpet needs to be replaced and the furnishings were dated, but all in all, an ok place to crash for a few nites. Room had a nice, big tub, but we did not get maid service the 2nd day. The 3rd day we finally got maid service. Toss-up whether we stay there again or not. P.S. Almost ALL of the staff of the Sahara were very pleasant to talk to and deal with…we consider our stay a very positive experience.
When asked for my CC I handed the man my CC with a 20 folded under it. Then asked if there were any suite upgrades available. He started to decline until he felt the money, and said he would see what he could do. We chit chatted for a while and then he said he indeed had a room for us, on the 8th floor overlooking the strip. Wasn’t a bad room for 80$ a night.
I got back from a trip to Vegas, stayed at the Sahara. Tried the $20 trick and was upgraded to a suite in the Tangiers tower, top floor! Very nice room, huge bathroom, and really the only tower worth staying in at the Sahara.
Checked in around 1pm. Slipped a $20 and requested upgrade. He asked me if my boyfriend and I were newlyweds. VERY Nice room for this property. Great view. $36 a night. Wow!
Walked in at 3:30pm for check in on a Sunday for 4 nights. Line had 6+ people in front of me. Had my ID and Card with $20 slipped in the middle. Walked up she asked for my card and ID. I gave it to her and asked “I was wondering if y’all had any complementary upgrades available” and she responded “I’m sure I can get something for you” she went to work on her computer for like 3 minutes and we asked what shows to see just being friendly. She said we were booked for the story tower on the 6th floor and she upgraded us to the world tower on the 18th floor. Bit more spacious for $20 was worth it.
