flew in late and got to the hotel around 12:30am Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. there was a long line to check in. the kiosks looked tempting but decided to wait. finally its our turn the clerk asks for id and I give her the sandwich which I had ready in my shirt pocket. takes the $20 and puts it to the side then i asked if there were any rooms with a king bed as the room i reserved didn’t give me a choice and gave me 2 queens. she looked and then asked ” you want a king bed right?” I said yes if available.
then she tells us i got you a really nice suite. my wife and i thanked here but didn’t know what an awesome suite we got until we entered the double door suite with an awesome panoramic view of the strip and the bellagio fountain!

I was just called next, however, my clerk was the only one on the other side of the large pillar that is at the front desk, so she was a bit away from the others.
We got to the hotel around 10pm and checked in by 1005pm. When I got to the counter, i just made friendly small talk leading up to the check-in process. Once she asked for the ID I handed her the ‘$20 sandwich” and just asked nicely if there were any available upgrades. She checked a few moments on the computer, went to go confer with her manager, and came back and was gladly able to get us a SWEET upgrade.

We arrived at approx 10:30 am and there was no line so we got the first person who called us up. Handed him the $50 sandwich and said we were hoping to check in early, and wondered if there were any other rooms available. He let the $50 stay where it fell from the sandwich as he carried on a friendly conversation and looked up what rooms were available. He waived the early check in fee, upgraded the room, and was extremely friendly. We had booked a fountain view hip room but the room we got was a suite – which is quite large with a giant bathroom, a huge soaker tub, and fountain views, and it was in the 18th floor. We could watch the fountains and gaze at the Eiffel Tower while soaking in the tub – so amazing! We saved just over $1000 on the room cost and it was well worth the $50. I will definitely ise this at every future hotel stay! Thanks!

I was visiting on a 5 night comp’d stay. Diamond Status.
Gave the Diamond clerk 100 bill and asked if any upgrades were available… I was hoping for a suite but just got a slight upgrade Resort vista room. The view from the bathtub of Paris Tower was pretty great but I’d never tip 100 for this minor upgrade ever again. Wasn’t worth it.

Upon checking in, I handed over my $20 sandwich to the front desk lady and she quickly turned it down and said we don’t do that here. She offered discounted rates two times upon our conversation. I simply declined as it was overpriced and obviously cheaper to book online. No luck.

Came in late at 9PM on a Monday night. Eschewed the express self checkin, and TotalRewards App checkin, and did the ‘sandwich.’ He set it aside and gave us a nicer room, he said worth $80 more, with a view of Bellagio fountains, huge bathroom, with two sinks on each side, tub and separate shower. He prefaced the tip as a tip for his service, not the room (maybe the supervisor showed up?).

Totally worked!! My view of the strip is amazing!! I walked up around 1:20pm to check in early… slipped him the credit cash sandwich and he smiled. He asked, “here for a special occasion?” I said “Yes, annual work trip!” He replied “very well, we will make sure you have a view of the strip so your co-workers will be jealous!” It was quick and easy… just be cool and friendly!

When I got there they asked me if I would like to check in via kiosk and I said I would wait to talk to a live person. I didn’t target any particular employee… just waited for the next available. I handed her my card and license with the $20 in between. Before I could even say anything she said “Ill see what I can do”.

She went In the back for 20 seconds and came back letting me know that she upgraded me from the ultra vista resort room to a “junior suite strip view “.

Probably the best view I’ve ever had in Vegas and I didn’t even have to ask. The $20 did most the talking.

Did not target a clerk but got a clerk that seemed to be having a bad day based on interactions with previous guests checking in. Tried the sandwich trick with a $50 bill and the clerk immediately knew what was up. She immediately thanked me and began typing away on her computer stating that she would help us out. It was only two of us so I requested a resort Vista room overlooking the Bellagio Fountains rather than a full on suite. The clerk was surprised that I knew what room I wanted. After several minutes, she gave me several options and we decided on the best room with that view. Ended up with a perfect view of the fountains, Paris Eiffel Tower, and the rest of the strip. The room was also about 1/3 bigger than a regular room and had a huge tub for two people that overlooked the Eiffel Tower and fountains. $50 well spent imho!

Had comped Pano Suite, really just wanted early checkin. Clerk saw the $20 and she said”if you would like a smoking room, I can give you a Ultra Panoramic suite”. I said sure, she went ahead and processed it and I smiled and handed her the $20

Comped room was suppose to be $800 a night, the upgrade was $2200
