Checked in around noon, slipped him the $20 with the license and CC, and asked if there were any comp upgrades available. Said they just had several upper floor suites that just came available. When I asked him what the rooms were like, he said, “The room is smokin”
put the $20 between the cc n the license, asked the young lady is there any complimentary upgrade. smiled n shook her head n say they don’t offer any complimentary upgrades. she put us on the 27th floor w/o taking the tip n rooms werent tat bad tho.
I will never stay at the Monte Carlo again. The rooms are falling apart. I paid $100 a night to upgrade and felt ripped off. The $20 did not work at all. The whole stay was very disappointing.
There were about 10 or so workers, and the lines for each werent that long. So i decided to look around and see who would give me the best chance at an upgrade. I decided to try the 20 dollar trick at this younger male. I had the $20 bill in between the cc and license, suckered up to him by asking how his day was going and so on..then, i asked if there were any nice rooms available. He said there was a room with a view that i could get, but i have to wait a day…so i would have a temp room for one night..i agreed… The first room was on the 27th floor, and had the view of the mgm/new york new york side of the strip (it wasnt too bad)..the next night (which was the better room) we had to move to the 17th floor. The view wasnt great at all. We had the view of the other side of the strip, but there were a lot of construction that blocked the view. Plus, the windows were VERY dirty! Also, they were doing construction downstairs in the casino and it stunk!..I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and this would be the last hotel I stay at the next time i come back to vegas.
Showed the 20 bucks to the clerk, but he told me right away, that they do not offer any upgrades and I took back my money.
Clerk took a look at the 20.00. I asked if the hotel was busy and inquired if any comped upgrades were available. She said no. There was what looked like a supervisor pacing back and forth behind the counter.
Asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available, the gentleman shook his head and said no. Did not make eye contact with us at all. He did place us on the 31st floor, (out of 32). The lobby was very busy, so I don’t know, perhaps he just couldn’t discuss it.
I had seen that the success rate at the Monte Carlo was pretty low, so I wasn’t expecting much. Had my ID and credit card with a $20 in between. Handed it to the front desk clerk and asked if there were any upgrades available. She then checked some and proceeded to give me upgrade pricing. I then said we’ll keep the same class room, but could she get us high up, facing the strip. We wound up getting a room with a great view of the strip on the 31st floor. With the construction going on in the back of the hotel, that was very important. She did ask if I wanted change for the $20, but I told her to keep it. Might have gotten the same upgrade without the tip. No way to know, but, to me, it was easily worth that $20 to secure the room we wound up getting. Room wasn’t ready for another few hours though.
Came in on Saturday night. They were not busy at all. Had a young guy in his 20’s at the desk. I asked him if here able to do anything about the rooms there and if there were any upgrades available and and made it obvious i was slipping cash under my amex and ID. I asked him again if he was sure he could not do anything, and he apologized and returned the my card with the cash.
