I was next in line for him. It was a male and I thought he looked nice enough. I put a $20 in between my license and AX card and asked if they had any complimentary upgrades available. He looked and said no, then it got very complicated because I asked him to search for 2 rooms w/ adj. door. We ended up with 2 rooms // no adj. door and he “acted” as if he was giving me a great disc. by clacking away on his computer for like 20 minutes. He showed me his computer for the rate and it looked as though he was going to discount the rate he was showing me. I was with my 2 daughters. We ended up with 2 rooms at a normal price except it was going to go sky-hi on the weekend so the next morning I cancelled out the second room. He really didn’t do anything special whatsoever, and from all the guests I spoke with, the Monte Carlo is NOT the place to ask for anything special. Either the larger rooms/suites are booked or they give them to “insiders” who have connections or pay mostly full price.
The young lady was very polite, but stated there were no complementary upgrades. She returned the $20 bill. I chose her because she just came up the front desk to work. I sandwiched the $20 between my credit card and ID and inquired with a smile whether a complimentary upgrade was available. I knew going in the Monte carlo had a reputation for declining upgrade requests. It doesn’t matter. The casino and the surrounding casinos aren’t for me and I won’t return. If you don’t like pounding loud hip-hop and don’t like user unfriendly comps, this isn’t for you.
Gave the $20 in the sandwich. The woman looked at me and smiled, but then nodded her head over to the manager standing behind her, and said “i’m sorry but we cannot accept tips and gave me the $20 back. She then winked and proceeded to move us up from the 7th floor, to the 25th. She then proceeded to give us a coupon book, as well as some 2 for 1 cocktail cards for the Brand steakhouse. Although the room itself was not upgraded, the higher floor and the coupon book was a nice touch for just asking.
Tried $20 between the cards and didn’t say anything about upgrades as the manager was lingering. She know to keep the money covered, didn’t say much, but feverishly tried to find me something. The hotel was sold out for the whole weekend and she felt bad she couldn’t get me a suite, but said I would have had one had the hotel not been sold out. She suggested I could wait till midnight and take my chances, but I was tired and said the best she could do for me was great. Got a high floor with view away from the construction. I asked for coupons but she said she couldn’t. I would have given her the $20 for that!!! She handed me the money without me asking for it, but I have her a fiver for her efforts. Would have liked the coupons though.
5 minute wait to check-in. Went to a female clerk in her late 20’s early 30’s. Had a thick Boston accent. Tried the sandwich. Asked if they had any complimentary upgrades. Was told they were not allowed to do that but would see what she could find me. I told her I wanted a room with a strip view and didn’t want something too low or on the side with the construction. She said that she couldn’t updrade me to a suite but could find a strip view. They would have to charge me $60 to upgrade. So the rooms were available, but wouldn’t give me the upgrade.
Handed sandwich to a Latino male in his late 20’s. Asked if any complimentary updgrades were available and that it was my 10th stay at this Resort (True). He said that the hotel is booked, and there is nothing he could do for me. He handed back my credit card, id, & $20.00. Room was in the 100 wing and was very dated (worn bedspread, smelled like cigarettes). Complained to front desk (different teller), room was changed to the 300 tower and was renovated – still deluxe.
Checked in around 11:30am. No wait at all and walked to the nearest clerk. My wife and I were very friendly and asked if there was a nice view of the strip available and he said there was a room availabe, but not until the check-in time of 2pm. We said ok and then went to the champagne brunch and had a great time. Our standard room turned into a strip view on the 25th floor for free!
Sandwiched the $20 between ID and CC, asking the lady “Wondering if you can get me a complimentary upgrade”, she took the 20 and put it next to the keyboard and said “I’ll see what I can do”. After a little chat with her about the new Town Centre that they’re building next door, she said she couldn’t do the upgrade because it was full, she said she would if she could. But she gave us a strip view on the 28th floor instead, and gave the money back to me. So I guess it kinda did work.. it was a busy weekend afterall
Waited in line for about 10 minutes, walked up to the counter said hi & asked for any complimentary upgrades. She saw the $20.00 and said, oh, please keep this, let me see what I can find….she founf a SPA Suite!!! And gave me my $20 back!!!
I checked in at around 10:30 pm. The lobby seemed pretty slow. I made conversation with the lady at the desk and slipped her my CC and DL with the 20 in between. I asked if there were any comp room upgrades available. She said that they didn’t do that anymore but she can try to get me the best room available. She put me on the 30th floor on the mountain view side for the first night and said that she could give me a strip view on the 30th floor in a room right across the hall from my first room for the next two nights. I said great and that it would do. She thanked me and gave me the keys and I was on my way. Don’t know if I could have had the same luck without the 20. The room was a standard size room and the view was so so of the strip and the construction. The windows were pretty dirty.
