Saved:  $100+ Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  High Floor Deluxe Room  from  Deluxe Room

Visit during a busy January weekend, the hotel was packed with Hockey fans so was feeling a bit underwhelmed that this wouldn’t work. We did the sandwich to a lovely young member of staff who was awesomely cheerful and friendly.

The Monte Carlo (Park MGM to be soon) is undergoing renovation and we had our room upgraded to one of the few newly refurbished Park Rooms which was great and much nicer than the orginal room. We also received free comp drinks for the in-house restaurant.

For saying how busy the site was we where impressed with our upgrade without even mentioning it, just the sandwich slip!!

First, please understand the Monte Carlo is under construction and it was Cinco de Mayo weekend when I tried it. They are doing renovations and had no wiggle room for upgrades.

Gave him the $20 dollar sandwich and he giggled. Said thank you and see what he could do. Wanted to comp our parking but we flew in and had no car. Explained to us that the hotel is under renovations and will be rebranded. He moved us to a lower level floor as far from the construction as possible. Had a great view of the T-Mobile arena and the Park for people watching on the 6th floor. We feel it was worth it based on zero noise from the construction. Slept like a baby.

Tried the $20 trick at the VIP check in. Was told that MGM resorts does not allow resort fee to be waived anymore. Escalated to the VIP check in manager and was told that this rule is bound by the system. WIll not be staying at MGM properties if this happens again next time.

We had a nice connection with the desk agent, she was Canadian like us, but oops, made a comment about Trudeau and Trump, turns out she loves Trump. No upgrade, no resort fee discount, at least she gave the 20 back.

Waited in a long line for check in and went to first available clerk (at 12ish at night) and followed the 20dollar trick but just doubled the amount and the lady was very nice just said they did not have any available upgrades so she gave us back the 40 dollars

My recent trip to Vegas, we stayed at the Monte Carlo. We got there at 11:30am on a Monday so it wasn’t busy. I handed the young woman my card, ID, with the $20 bill in between. She upgraded us from a deluxe room to a high floor strip view room. She also waived our resort fee and gave us tons of coupons. At the end of the transaction she handed the $20 back and said, “Use this on a cab ride or something. Free upgrades for you today.” Very successful for me!

Quite a bit of people checking in so we just picked a line, got a younger Asian dude, slipped him the sandwich w/$20. I said ” a friend on mine said I should ask if there’s any complimentary upgrades on the room.” he said “sorry its too late in the day (9pm) I wish I could ” pushed the $20 bucks back to me. It was worth a shot

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  did not get upgraded  from  standard king

Checked in around 1pm on a saturday. I was a bit apprehensive given the fact that monte carlo has a very low success rate for the trick but i thought id give it a go anyway. Got a female clerk in her mid 20s, figured she looked young and might hook it up. I put on my biggest smile and slipped her the sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She took the sandwich, saw the 20, took it out, and said, “aaand you can have that back, unless you were planning on giving it to me”, which took me off guard. I was a bit nervous doing this anyway because i HATE rejection, and said oh, thanks, and took it back. In hindsight i shouldve said something smooth like “it depends on if there’s any upgrades” but I just sensed she thought I was retarded and a douche for trying (probably my insecurities LOL). So, yeah, didnt work for me…

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Deluxe high floor, no resort fee  from  Deluxe

There was about 7 guys spread over 3 rooms – each room had 2 queens. We rustled up about $120 between us and went to the reception where it was dead (being a Tuesday night). I basically put the money in my passport, handed it over and said ‘are you able to offer any complimentary upgrades?’ making sure he saw the $$$.
He then proceeded to type things and made a phone call in which he then told me he could offer me a suite for an additional $80 per night instead of $160. Being 7 of us the suite was suitable so i just asked for 3 rooms next to one another on a high floor overlooking the strip. None over looking the strip unfortunately but got one over looking the pool on the 31st (those high floor rooms have flat screen tv, ipod dock and free wifi) and we had our resort fee waivered for all 3 rooms so was extremely happy with that.
