Just was the next available. She was nice and we asked if she had any complimentary upgrades, we knew it was “holiday time” since July 4th was when a lot of people were staying through. We gave her the cc/dl/20, hoping for the upgrade. Got given the high floor strip view

I was at Paris for a 6-night stay during the very busy CES week — not a great time to be asking for upgrades!! Still, when I got to the counter after a 20-minute wait, I handed the clerk a $20 bill along with my license and credit card. Didn’t hide it, or “sandwich” it between the cards, just straight up handed it to her.

Just asked her for the best room she could give me. During CES, and for such a long stay, I kind of figured a P-room or a suite was a little out of my reach.

She thanked me for the $20, tapped on the computer for a while, and asked if the number of beds was important. I said no, as long as the room was non-smoking, I was fine.

She eventually found me a very nice 17th floor room. Just a standard room, but upgraded to an incredible view, one that Caesars normally charges extra for. Gorgeous view of the Paris pool, the Eiffel Tower, the Bellagio and its fountains, Cosmo, and CityCenter.

Had won a trip for four from Caesar’s Entertainment with the hotel part of the comped package along with limo and air. We were given two nights comped for a regular room. We booked our trip for this past weekend and added on Sunday night, making it a three night stay, with us only paying for Sunday night.

We arrived at hotel around 10pm on a Friday night so weren’t sure if it would work. I went up to the clerk, gave her my cards with the $20 between them. Asked if there were any upgrades for the two rooms. She looked around for about 5 minutes trying to locate two upgraded suites on the same floor and with a King Bed. After the 5 minutes she did find them. My wife and I got a corner suite Red Room Premier on the 27th floor overlooking the Bellagio Fountains and our couple friend got the same room, just not overlooking the strip. Again very easy and this was the 5th time we have used this to get a free upgrade. Works everytime.

We arrived to check in around 1pm, even though we knew official check in wasn’t until 4pm.
Our clerk was very nice, we told her we were celebrating a birthday, and it was my friend’s first time in Vegas.
We had already booked a premium room (strip view) and received two complimentary nights.
I handed the woman a 50 in between my credit card, total rewards card, and ID and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available.
She said she had a renovated RED room with a strip view, but there was only a king size bed. Considering there were going to be three of us in the room (something we didn’t tell the hotel), we declined.
So we received a renovated RED room, no view.
It was still a great room, and a nice upgrade.

I was spending a week in Las Vegas and booked my stay at Paris for your basic luxury room. When checking in it was crowded and full of female receptionist except for one male receptionist which I was gambling on! After my wait I was in luck! The male receptionist waved me over to be checked in. While waiting in line I had my Vegas sandwich in hand. When I approached him I gave him a huge smile and spoke a little french as well to break the ice. We chatted a bit and then he asked me for my license and credit card. Tucked in between was my $20.00. As soon as he saw it I went in with any complimentary upgrades. You could tell this was not his first rodeo! He quickly said lets see what I can do, after he typed away making this even more exciting he handed me my keys. I asked what floor we were on and he said 34. I thanked him, off to see what I scored and was thrilled that I was upgraded to the Red Room Premium!
Worked like a charm!!!!

The line was busy so we were unable to target anyone. We got to the desk around 1pm, knew the room might not be ready but we wanted to get our keys and get rid of our bags so we could go play. I had 4 nights comped through my Total Rewards card. The lady looked a little stuffy and was not friendly so I just kept my 2 $20s VERY visible in my hand on the counter. I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available for us, the invited guests. She said there were only upgrades for purchase. We declined.

We checked in at about 2:00 pm on Monday. We didn’t get a chance to pick a clerk. We ended up with a woman in her 30’s. I gave her my licence, credit card and 40$. ( was hoping to get upgraded to a suite ) She asked me if i needed change, I told her that it was for her and was wondering if she had any complimentry upgrades available. She typed away for a minute, then said she had a renovated Red Room with a view of the Bellagio fountains. Our original room was there basic room, so we were very happy. We probably could have got the same room for 20$. I don’t know if it helped, but I had my wife call a week before to confirm our reservation and ask them to make a note that we were in town celebrating my birthday (which was true). Maybe it helped, maybe it didn’t. We will try the 20$ sandwich now every time.

I had a younger/ early middle age man (like myself). I just handed him a $20 bill and he said he see what he can do. He got me a room just remolded (so much they came and put the right trap on the sink the first day I was there) on a non-smoking floor.(but everybody was anyway) I had a view of the fountain show from the Belligio (sp?) but it wasn’t the greatest, but who cares I could watch it from the room or just walk outside. Works for me. Also, Travolcity had me with a buy 1 get 1 helicopter tour, but it didn’t get booked right. I slipped the lady at the excersion counter $5 after helping me get this figured out and she got me the other ticket free (this tour was NOT through the hotel). I’m happy 🙂

We arrived on a Monday afternoon around 3pm. There was a “Disney” line of people waiting to check in. It took me about 20 min to get to the front. I was watching all the clerks and picked a couple of women I thought looked nice. I ended up getting the one I wanted without having to line shuffle. I took out my reservation and handed it to her. I put my wallet on the shelf in front of me along with a $20 bill.

I asked her if I might get a complimentary upgrade to a high floor “P” room. (A “P” room is and end room with two views). As she started working on the computer, I told her how this was a special trip celebrating our 25th anniversary. While waiting in line, I didn’t have high hopes, since it was so busy.

She began working on the computer, writing down room numbers, tearing it off and trying again. She did this for like 15 minutes. I waited patiently and hopeful since all the rooms had high floor numbers she was writing. (the premier I booked is a “view” room, but not a high renovated red room). Finally, she handed me my room keys. 2825P! Yahoo!!. She said she had to shift people around to get us the room since the hotel was full. I couldn’t believe it. The room was gorgeous. Beautiful views of the strip, the pool, the tower and the fountains. It made our week wonderful. I gave her the tip, and she thanked me.

I don’t know if it was the $20 or my story, or she would have done it regardless. All I can say is I was so thrilled, I brought her some chocolates the next day from Max Brenner. She said it wasn’t necessary, but thanked me, after I thanked her again.

Third time trying the $20 Trick. First time I was denied, so I’m now 2 for 3.

She took the credit card and ID, but left the $20 bill on the counter, saying that she cannot accept gratuities for upgrades. Tried to offer me a renovated room for an additional $40 per night, but I declined.

A couple of minutes later, she mentioned that her boss recently started monitoring travel blogs and websites (including this one, I presume) and was clamping down on clerks handing out upgrades for tips.
