Caught an early flight into Vegas from Detroit and got to the hotel around 9am. My wife and I figured that we’d get stuck with having to wait til 4pm to check in, so I gave the $20 tip trick a shot. I had a super personable attendant named Sandy. My apologies if I was wrong, but she looked a little older so I got kinda nervous. Nonetheless, after some polite chitchat, I handed her my id+visa with a 20 dollar bill sandwiched in between. She kinda chuckled when she noticed it, and said, ‘what’s this?’. I simply tried my charming best, and asked if she could give us a nice view, that’d be awesome. She went in the back for a bit, and when she came out we continued some small talk (I mentioned it was my wife’s first trip to Vegas, blah blah blah). She apologized for not having a king bed room, but she did have a queen double ready for check in. So we took it…and wow, what a view! We were dead center, facing the pool, eiffel tower and the Bellagio. When I explained to my wife what I had done, she was shocked! She had no idea that a simple tip could make that much of a difference. Had a great stay at Paris – but avoid the one men’s shop in the hallway to Ballys. The clerk there was a slimey pretty boy who tried to guilt me into giving him a tip for buying a simple pair of socks. Overall GREAT experience at the hotel, and the best $20 I spent all stay!
We got to the hotel about 12:30 in the afternoon and there was a short line. When we reached the clerk, I handed her my drivers license and credit card with a $20 sandwiched in between, and I asked her if there were any complimentary upgrades available. My wife was unaware of what I was doing and when the twenty dropped out onto the clerks’s keyboard, my exclaimed (loudly), “Hey what was that, did you mean to do that?” (groan…).
The Clerk was very nonchalant about it and said, “Let’s see what we can do for you.” We also told her it was my wife’s 40th birthday, so maybe that helped too, but who knows. All I know is that the view was great on the 22nd floor.
I checked in around 11:30 in the morning and there was barely a line. I had a twenty slipped in between y credit card and driver’s license beforehand so I just handed it to her and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She typed away for about five minutes and said there is a P room ready on the 25th floor. Room was great, large and newly renovated.
I am 3 for 3 at Paris. I read some of the failure reports, and some say they had the $20 in their hand or in a folder. Don’t do this! Hand the clerk the money with your driver’s license and CC. If you are a platinum player or better, be sure to hand them your player card also. Don’t bother if you’re only gold-everyone gets gold when they sign up. This last time, I asked for a Calais suite, but they didn’t have one available for every day that I was there. I then asked for an upgraded room-the higher floors have been renovated and are much nicer. I also asked for a strip view (very important at Paris or you’ll be looking at the parking deck!). SUCCESS! The clerk felt bad there were no Calais suites available and offered to return my $20. I said no, you still got me a great room. Most will return the $20 if they can’t help you, so what do you have to lose????
At Diamond check-in, asked for a renovated P room (end of hallway), which are approximately 25% larger than regular rooms and a corner room with two sets of windows and views.
Tipped after receiving the room.
Clerk said she could not give an upgrade unless she charged me the standard amount. I declined. The room I go had a partially obstructed view of the Bellagio Fountains. From her mannerisms and the quick way she shot it down it seems as if their management may be cracking down on the whole thing. If you want an upgrade like this, stay at a different hotel – It has worked for me a 3 others.
Tried with a $50 for an upgrade and was told she could not accept the money as their are no free upgrades but if I wanted to pay extra. So I paid extra for a great view of Bellagio on the 21st floor since the trip was a graduation present from college for my daughter.
$20 inbetween passports, credit card and after some typing on the screen (about 10 mins)the very nice clerk puts us upto a room on the 25th floor with a view to the Bellagio fountains + our pool below, just magic, 14 nights total stay.
I walked up to the clerk and gave her the $20 in between my license and credit card. She immediately knew what was up and said, “Oh, I see you have a gift for me. I take it you want me to see if I can get a great room.” It worked like a charm. We got a corner room overlooking the strip.
I put the $20. between my drivers license and my CC and asked the clerk if she had any renovated rooms on a high floor overlooking the Bellagio fountains. We got a room on the 25th floor which was a lot nicer than the room that we got last year. It was completely renovated and had a large flat screen TV. We had a great view of the Eiffel Tower and the fountains. In the past there was an extra charge for rooms facing the strip.
