Said she couldn’t upgrade, handed the $20 back. She was very polite and cool about it though.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Salon Suite  from  Deluxe Guestroom

Amazing! Slipped the 20 between the credit card and id and immediatley when asked for my card I asked for a complimentary upgrade. He smiled and said lets wee what I can do. After a few moments of typing he gave me a salon suite with the strip view and plenty of tickets to the bars in the palms. Best twenty bucks I have ever spent! This is the safest gamble in Vegas and everybody should do this no matter what!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Salon Suite in Fantasy Tower  from  Deluxe Double in Old Tower

After checking out of the Palms on Friday the 13th for 2 night stay at another hotel(because the Palms was way too expensive on the weekend)I checked back in on the 15th for the 2nd time in a week. Again, i slipped the female desk clerk the 20.00 sandwich, and asked for the salon suite thinking it was probably a long shot, (at the Palms generally you get either upgraded to the newer Fantasy tower, basic room, or if you are really lucky the Junior suite at the older tower, but this was the cats meow for sure, the next step up from this is staying at Hef’s playboy suite upstairs.
The fantasy tower’s salon suites are at the corner, you get a great view of the pool, and the ENTIRE strip. Even some moutains, you have windows all around, it has 2 rooms, the first room has a 65 inch plasma tv, along with a great big couch and mini bar, the bedroom has another plasma tv(32 or 42 inch?) and automatic drapes, a huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub with automatic blinds which you can see the entire strip from , and a little lcd screen tv to boot to watch while relaxing in the tub.And a big glass enclosed shower.
I think i was very lucky to get this after booking the plain room.
If i can only be so lucky next time….

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Grand Suite  from  Deluxe Guestroom (Standard)

Checked in at 3 PM on a Sunday. Place was fairly quiet, but the CineVegas festival was going on, as well as the WSOP across the street at the Rio, so it wasn’t dead by any stretch. Handed over the “sandwich” and the clerk made a few keystrokes and said, “A grand suite just became available on the 53rd floor of the Palms Tower, will that do?” I happily took the room, and he smoothly put the 20 in his pocket. Took the semi-private elevator (floors 50 and higher only) up to the room, which had a living room with couch, bedroom, 2 bathrooms, jacuzzi tub, and minibar. Well worth the $20.

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Standard Double Queen  from  Standard Double Queen

I was in Vegas for the weekend with some friends of mine. We showed up for check-in about 11:00 am and tried to get into our room on 3 occasions. Each time the attendant told us our room was not ready. Finally near 4:00 pm, she told me she had a room available. My friends and I really wanted a nice room for the 3 days we would be staying, so I slipped her $40 between my credit card and drivers license and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She took the money, and then politely told me that no upgrades were available. Instead she gave me two complimentary passes to the gym (which are $20 each). Needless to say that I don’t come to Vegas to hang out in the hotel gym and didn’t end up using the pass while I was there. So I want to warn those out there, that be prepared to have the tip taken without getting an upgrade.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Corner room/Fantasy Tower  from  King Non Smoking

Came in on a comped room for two nights on a Thursday. Figured with the WSOP close by I might not get a great upgrade. I slipped the 20 between the two cards as described and I asked for an upgrade if one was available. I wasn’t sure that the clerk saw the $20 at first but he figured it out quickly. Tole me I got a corner room which was bigger/quieter (it was) and then he informed me I was in the Fantasy Tower. I was very happy with the room and he also gave me VIP passes to the clubs at the Palms. Well worth it I would say!
