Check in 2 PM-ish, mid-week for 3 nights. Clerk was next available. Offered trick, clerk looked through the system, and found us a Grand Suite! (A grand suite is basically a combination of a junior suite plus the room next door – original tower – so you have 2 bathrooms and even 2 doors. Smaller side is dedicated as a living area, and larger side is sleeping are. Almost too much space for 2 people)
Clerk upgraded us and refused the 20 – actually handed it back! I tried 3 times, and he said – “it’s OK, we have plenty of these. You don’t need to do that.” So I debated if I should just throw it in his face while walking away, but thought maybe he was being somehow monitored and it would have been unfavorable for him. So I just said thanks very much – he was real cool. Great service overall at the Palms – midweek is the time to go if you don’t need the weekend club scene.
Tuesday. I traveled alone and arrived at 1 in the afternoon. There were no male clerks and the latina was the clerk available. I greeted her and gave her my ID, $20 and credit card. I asked her if she could check to see if there are any complementary upgrades available. She looked in her computer for a few minutes and said that there were no comps available but there were upgrades that I could get for $30-40 more per night. I declned. She returned my $20 but I told her to keep it anyway. I got a small standard room in the front tower with two beds on the 53rd floor.
The girl seemed to be in a hurry and never made eye contact. She said they dont do complimentary upgrades. She didnt take the money so nothing lost.
Checked in around 11:30pm on Wednesday w/ male clerk. I asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. I slipped him $40 in between my ID and Credit Card. He thanked me very much and said no need to tip. Politely gave me the money back and said he had a nice suite that we would enjoy. We ended up on the 35th floor of the fantasy tower with a HUGE suite that had a fabulous view. The room was incredible. Mini bar in the room along w/ Hi-def tvs, jacuzzi tub. Great experience! I love the Palms. He also gave us several club passes as well. I think we got such a big upgrade because we were only staying at the palms Wed and Thurs night as opposed to staying there the whole weekend.
Booked the cheapest standard room on Orbitz with a buy two nights get one free. It was Wend – Saturday, and they were not super busy until Friday night. I put the $20 between my card and ID. She was very friendly and said she was in a good mood and would have given us a free upgrade anyways but on account of how generous I was she said she would give us a great room. Room has a living area with a 40″ HD plasma, bedroom has a 32″ plasma and bathroom had a small plasma. Great Room and she gave us a bunch of free passes.
I passed the girl at the check in my ID and credit card with the $20 in between. I asked if there was any complimentary upgrades. She handed the $20 back and replied “Sorry there are no upgrades available tonight”
She was really nice about it and so we got the room we had booked in the Palms Tower, close to the elevator.
Worked great. She took the 20 and told and gave us a choice between a Grand Suite in the Plams Tower and a superior room in the Fantasy tower. she also included several extra club passes,
Our length of stay was 4 nights. It didn’t work the first day, but the front desk clerk was nice enough to let us know to try again on the 3rd night. We stayed in the Palms tower for 2 nights and were comped for the next 2 nights in the Fantasy tower. We received more VIP tickets to clubs than needed.
Put $20 in passport and asked was there any complimentary upgrades. The girl checked and said yes no problem and at the end even offer my $20 back. I told her to keep it. She basically gave us a $1000 worth of an upgrade!!
Put two $20s in between my card and license and was denied! LOL He told me that they were overbooked and that there was nothing he could do and to check back in the morning. Gave me the 40 bucks back.
Went back to the desk late that evening… Got upgraded to a Deluxe Guest Room in the Fantasy tower for free. Went back the next day and got upgraded to a Salon Suite in the Fantasy tower for only 50 bucks a night. Pretty sweet.
