It was around 3pm, only one person in line ahead of us, 2 clerks, we got a nice young looking man. Room was booked through hubbies job. It was in his name but I did the talking. I just said it was his bday (really was) and I was wondering if you had any complimentary upgrades, I also mentioned I planned on spending a lot of time in the casino. I made sure the $20.00 was noticed by him. He very quietly mentioned a couple of options & then said he had a 1 bedroom suite (condo like). It was amazing on the 37th floor with 3/4 of the rooms with views of the entire city!!! King bed w/Jacuzzi tub in bedroom, huge double shower bathroom w/tv. 2 large screen tvs, full stainless kitchen, plus an extra bathroom, fireplace & washer/dryer. It was so cool. All this for my original price of $59/nite!!!!!! Very clean, excellent maid service, very satisfied. I would keep it quiet when asking I really think that helps.
Saw a younger looking girl out of the three clerks. It was 9pm, i put the 20 between the credit card and my id. It fell out on the counter while i was asking her if they had any upgrades. She tried to give it back and her reason was she didnt know if they has any upgrades. I told her to keep the tip anyways and after a minute of searching she said yes i have a fantasy suite in the fantasy tower. I had to wait 2 hours for the room to be ready but i did not care we were upgraded and i was happy. Thank you for great service even though gambling her was terrible couldnt win anything here.
Did the $20 trick exactly how you are supposed to. Got a corner room with great views of the strip and the pool. Much larger room than I booked. Overall very pleased with how this worked
My son told me about the $20 trick and did my homework on this site before checking in. We drove from UT and had to catch a 7 pm show in 1.5 hours at arrival. It was 5:45 pm there was a line so settled for next available rep. Told her I had reservations and handed her my sandwiched credit card and drivers license with folded $20. Asked her if they had any complimentary upgrades available. She unfolded the $20 and laid it on her counter which was lower than mine. Obviously there was a camera behind her. I might add that the Palms website stated that for an extra $21 per night you can get an upgrade. She said she’d check and had something available. I didn’t bother asking what I’d get since we had to catch a show at the Mirage and took a chance. She said king and I asked for 2 queens, quiet room away from the club. She put us in the Fantasy Tower. We proceeded to our room which was on the 33rd floor. Highest floor is 35. We got the salon suite with a separate living room, 2 queens, spectacular view, massive bathroom with view, double sink, jacuzzi and shower, 3 TV’s with Bose. The lights in bedroom weren’t working so called front desk. Maintenance came but had to leave for the show, just fix it. Extra phone in suite area wasn’t working and and discovered jacuzzi also wasn’t working on our last night. Sketchy wifi connection, had to move around the room to suite area. Overall, the upgrade wasn’t bad for original $65/night. Also, maid did not take tip I left in the room Strange.
Just got the first clerk available, laid on the English accent, and she beamed, thanked me very much and upgraded us to the Palms Place, an enormous corner apartment, floor to ceiling views of the Strip, lounge, kitchen, and a discount on the resort fee. Kept it for six nights. So happy! Thanks for the tip.
I was actually worried that the $20 sandwich wouldn’t work because it was the start of spring break, and thought it would be packed! But we checked in around 11AM, slipped a $40 sandwich because I booked two rooms. The clerk was very nice and friendly, saw the $40 but said he could not accept it and handed it back to me. He told me he’d give me something nice though.. who knew it would be a penthouse in the fantasy tower!
Went to only avail clerk. Slipped $20 between DL and CC. He offered me superior room in Fantasy Tower or Grand Suite in Palms Tower. I chose Grand Suite. Large sep. living room, bedroom, 1.5 baths. 50th floor, great view.
We showed up on a Saturday around noon. Well before the check-in time. Booked 3 standard rooms on Orbitz thru a buy one night get one night free promotion. No line at check-in, walked up to the next available agent and told him our group was checking in. Gave him my card and ID w a $20 in between and asked if he had any complimentary upgrades to a suite bc we were celebrating. He said he could get us 3 grand suites, I said thanks, he said you’re welcome and the rest of the weekend was excellent. Good luck to everyone else, worked like a charm and the rooms were sweet.
There was a little bit of line so we had to go to the next clerk available, who happened to be a younger girl. She said if we wanted an upgrade it would be $30 (ish) extra per night. She was kind of a B about it. It was a Monday in October so I doubt they were full. My husband was doubtful it would work… he was right!
