My brother threw his 30th bday in Vegas with a bunch of family and friends coming. The majority stayed at the Palazzo. This was labor day weekend on Saturday so I figured the tip trick would never work with the whole town being booked to capacity. He didn’t target but he got a clerk at the corner away from other eyes and ears… One thing that made me nervous about doing it was asking within earshot of other employees or customers… He didn’t ask for a room upgrade but he did ask for a special request. “Here’s my ID and credit card and here’s a $50 for you if you can get all our rooms on the same floor with a high view of the strip… anything you can do to help I would appreciate it” After banging away at the keyboard for what seemed like forever she found 3 rooms. We were all on the 42nd floor. Although we did have to wait until the rooms were clean… They texted us within 20 mins and the rooms were ready…. Also the next day he rented a cabana at the venetian pool. Cabana 22-23 were the most popular ones to pick. He knew he wanted to get Cabana 22 or 23 because of location but everything is first come first serve starting at 9am even with a reservation. Earlier the pool girl said she couldn’t preassign cabanas and that the cabana map wasn’t even given to them until 9am.. He slipped her a $20 and gave her the last name on the reservation and said he wanted 22 or 23. He got in line at 8:45am and was already deep in the back of the line.. When he got up he saw that 22 was already assigned to him.. SCORE! Remember, all of this was on Labor day weekend

We were only in Vegas for one night so we tried to get into town early [11am early]. I had two rooms in my name so when we got there I really couldn’t target anyone because there was a person in a red jacket mettering the lines. I spoke to her and asked her how her day was going , small talk. I had 3 20’s sandwiched ready to go. When it was my turn I handed the sandwich to the clerk and he immediately said let me see what I can do for you. He said we were in town early but let’s see what we have available. To be honest wasnt interested in an upgrade just early and late check out…. I mentioned if there was a possibility of a early and late checkout the next day. He asked what time were we thinking…. I didnt answer, I let him tell me. He said he could do 3pm at no extra charge and that worked well for us. He said he only had 1 Luxury suite available on a high floor but excused himself and went and spoke with a guy wearing a nicer suite. He came back seconds later and said he could upgrade one of the rooms to a 1200 sft room so they could both be available at the same time. The persons to my left and right were both told there were zero rooms available for early check in and I got TWO with early check in and late check out for the tip. The rooms at Palazzo are already nice but walking up to my room with two doors I knew it would be awesome!!! 1.5 bathrooms, full living room, separate bedroom, 5 sprayer shower (awesome), spa tub and a TV in the bathroom. I was overlooking the WYNN”s pool on the 43rd floor. Could have been the tip, could have been we were only in town for one night.

I am a Spire Elite and military, so I was hoping that would give me some leverage. The stay itself was on reward nights. I also emailed reservations to notify them of my stay was for the Valentine’s Day weekend and a one year anniversary before my arrival. Arrived at around 9pm and the front desk was not busy at all. I couldn’t really target a specific clerk due to the red coat clerks directing traffic. When I provided the clerk with the tip between my military ID and credit card, there was a mention that the clerk was new to the check-in process for Palazzo and she was being assisted by another clerk, so that didn’t give me too much hope. I told them that although I did get booked into a two queen suite, it would be great if they could fit me into a single bed room instead. By the time they were done looking through, they were unable to upgrade my room, nor provide me with a suite with a single king bed. They did get me a room with a view of the strip and the mountains on the 44th floor, although I wouldn’t say that was much of an upgrade for the tip nor the Spire elite status.

We checked in on Friday evening at 6pm & was directed to the counter where we met our hotel clerk, a white male in his 20’s. When asked for my ID & CC I had 2 folded $20’s and asked if we could possibly get 2 queens instead of 1 king for our 2 rooms. He immediately told me how much it would cost so I declined. Then I kindly asked if he could kindly waive the resort fees since we won’t be using any of the amenities & can do without wifi. He said it was a mandatory fee. The only thing he offered was waiving the $10 lock-out fee connecting the 2 rooms. Thankfully he gave back the tip. He did mention it was a sold out weekend so I’m not sure if that made a difference.

Slipped our guy $40 and a big grin appeared. He said he would be happy to take care of us. I said it was our anniversary and wondered if there were any complimentary upgrades. Also said if there weren’t any… what would really be nice is a late checkout since our flight left in the evening. We got Both!

It was one of my girlfriends first time travelling to Vegas I had prepped her on the checking in process and why it was important( as she was flying in earlier than I was) She always landed in a grouchy horrible mood and was genuinely rude to the people that served her and upon my arrival at the front desk she had only just grabbed the room keys. I asked had she tipped etc? And she said no.,..I was annoyed as I had booked the suite for a reason and suspected her foul mood would ensure we weren’t getting the full experience. I take the lift up to the fifth?!?! floor and open the door to our room with a view of the air conditioning units and the dirty usually hidden back of the restaurants where staff would be emptying the trash and taking smoke breaks. Furious I headed downstairs to apologise for my guest and request any possible upgrades. 40 something floor above treasure island, free drink cards at their nightclub as I had prebooked tickets to a djs show there in a few nights time. Couldnt fault the staff at all, they were more than obliging.

As for foul mood, I stayed in Vegas longer so she flew home to Australia on her own and we haven’t spoken since. Final straw for me….she was someone who would embarrass you every meal by leaving no tip, being rude to servers….wouldn’t friend her again but 9/10 would stay at the Palazzo again

Finally have some time to report back…

Here’s my last trip to the Palazzo results.

We booked two standard non-strip-view (cheapest) rooms two nights via Priceline and got it at $106 per night. We have 4 adults and 2 very young children.

When we got to the hotel; there was no line, some guy directed me to the clerk. I can’t remember exactly what his name was but he was young and in his 20s. He asked whom I was and I handed him a 40 sandwich since I had two rooms reserved. Like everyone else he set the money aside and started doing this thing. He asked what I was in town for and I said I was taking my inlaws to Vegas for a visit. He replied “great, I’d imagine you’d like your trip as enjoyable as possible.” I responded by saying “oh definately, if there’s any complimentary upgrades that would be awesome!”. He kept on punching things into the computer, about 30 seconds later he handed me two keys and said “I’ve extended this one time courtesy by upgrading you guys to strip-view high floor room.” I then asked him “are these room next to each other? We have two kids and would be great that they can run around! And if you can get us two beds each room that would be great!” Knowing that in order to get two beds he will have to upgrade us to the Bella suite.

He proceed to punch some more stuff to the computer for another 15 seconds and says “I have got you guys in connecting room with two beds each and a view of the strip! But this is just a one time courtesy.” I got exactly what I wanted! Two connecting rooms facing the strip with two beds in each room.

We stayed for two nights and saved nearly $400 with the sandwich.

Standard King to Bella Suite with view is about an additional $80 per room per night for the the dates we selected. (mid-April week night)
Connecting rooms $10 per night.

The only thing I wish I had asked was the waiver of resort fees… But in the end I was very happy with the sandwich.

Handed the guy at the front desk $40. Immediately got upgraded to a high floor room (44th floor) facing the strip with early check in (we checked in at 11am) and late checkout (until 2pm) waived. Also got one night’s resort fee waived due to a mishap with billing to room at a bar. I’d say that’s a fantastic value. Probably saved approximately $350.

BTW, I was on the fence between Venetian’s and Palazzo’s Luxury Suite. Glad I made the choice to choose Palazzo’s… It’s a far superior product, and as Palazzo is nearly twice as tall, you’re guaranteed to get a “higher” floor room (relatively), even at the most basic rate.

Went to the Palazzo (first time staying there and trying the sandwich method).

After reading reviews online I thought to myself… I got this! Not going to lie was pretty nervous though. I was not sure if it was going to work as it was COVID and pretty late. Ended up getting to the Palazzo around 1:30am. There was only 2 clerks, I was called over by a younger gentleman who was very nice and energetic for it being 1am. I put the $20 sandwich in the COVID tray and asked if there was any complimentary upgrades available. He was totally nice and said “Absolutely sir! I will look for you.” He already knew the drill as he made the $20 disappear.

A some small talk and typing on his computer a few minutes later he said “Sir, I have an upgrade available for you on the top floors facing the strip, it is an $80 a night upgrade, but I can give that you to complimentary, is that okay?” I thought to myself, “Hell yeah! I can’t believe it worked!”, but I just played it cool and was like sure that sounds great. I should’ve asked if you could’ve comped the resort fees but I was happy with what I got.

He said he would also add a 1pm check out, which was an additional $20 I believe too.

Absolutely beautiful room over looking the pool, TI, and you could even see Area15! Worth every penny.

Just a note, I was talking to my Lyft driver about it, an older gentleman, and he was saying, “Oh yeah, there’s still some good old boys in Vegas. It definitely works.”
