Saved:  $over $1000 Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Unsure  from  Resort Room

Booked a standard room at the Mirage as I had 4 nights comped. I had already planned to rip a good tip at the desk so I figured my girlfriend and I would get some kind of upgrade, We went as it was her birthday. My girlfriend cringed at the fact that I was gonna try and hustle an upgrade so she waited on the sidelines as I waited in line LOL. I did not target anyone and just rolled the dice. When I got to the counter the clerk was a 30’s something women, very nice and as they were busy at the checkin I didn’t get much small talk. I simply placed the 50$ in the cards and handed them over. But I made a big mistake. I folded it wrong so you couldnt see the “50” on the bill, she didnt unfold it and put it to the side. I didn’t ask for anything and she just looked up and smiled at me. After some typing she said shes moving us to a nice stay well room as that was all that she currently had. I said awesome and thanked her (I’m Canadian so we’re all pretty thankful when anyone does anything extra or nice for us) My GF asked what happened. I told her we got a room upgrade. Really happy with the room. the stay well rooms are wonderful. However it gets more interesting when we hit up the Mlife counter to redeem some free plays, The clerk said “Oh looks like you have 250$ food and beverage credit on your account… (which I know I did not have prior to arriving and nothing was on my mlife account). Interesting I’m just gonna call and see what this is about for you” she got on the phone and called, then she hung up and said “Yeah so we’re giving you 250$ food and bev credit per day as well as comping the remaining resort fees for your stay” – As my room was already comped I still had the resort fees for 4 nights. which totaled around 200$ with taxes. I just smiled and thanked her with a 5$ tip. I assumed this happened once the front desk clerk saw that it was a 50 that I tipped, I remembered her manager was near by and thats probably why she never looked at the note that I had slipped in. All in all I ended up saving well over $1000 dollars just in comps all from a 50 dollar tip. Tipping them will grant you huge rewards if you take the chance. and tipping bigger will result in saving a ton more. 20$ isnt really anything someone will jump at. Go big and reap the rewards my friends! next time im trying 100$ The mirage was awesome

Saved:  $-10 Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Strip View Room  from  Resort Room

The check in line had a person who directed me to an open clerk. Luckily it was all the way to the end on the right hand side. It was 3PM, right at check in time. I asked the clerk to check if there were any room upgrades. Initially booked standard 2 queens room. Received the strip/volcano view as an upgrade. On the booking website, it was only about an additional $10. Not worth the tip.

Saved:  $700 Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Hospitality (2 Bedroom) Suite  from  Tower (2 Bedroom) Suite

It was about 5 pm on a Monday. when my group and I checked in. We wanted to speak to the only male behind the desk because he just had the look that made us assume he would be down for the trick. Luckily the manager walked away right before we were up. Got through the formalities and he asked for my ID and CC. I sandwiched a $50 bill and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He looked up the reservation and seemed a little surprised and verified that we already had a 2 bedroom suite. He thought we wanted a villa which appeared to be out of his reach. I told him we were hoping for an upgrade to the hospitality suite. He made some calls and made it happen. The space we had was awesome! That room parties were even better!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Resort Room  from  Resort Room

I didnt target a clerk because i didnt have the option. I got Quincy as my clerk. it was about 10am when i checked in. i did a perfect sandwich with a $20 bill and put it on the counter and asked for any complimentary upgrades avaiable. He said that since it was the weekend, they were pretty booked up but he would check. All he was able to do was get my a strip view but i dont know if that was even an upgrade. It was the same room type. I asked if he could waive the resort fee’s after and he he could not.

I would say this was a bust. The room didnt get upgraded, didnt get the private elevator or any kinda fees waive. I will try again in the future.

My assumption of why it didnt work is because they just reopened back in march to 50% capacity in vegas due to covid and there was quite a bit of people there is vegas.

Tipped:  $0 Upgraded to  Resort Room  from  Resort Room

Very busy, got first person we saw. Told young man that it was our 20th Anniversary and asked if there were any possible upgrades for us. Didn’t slip the $20. All he gave us was the option to upgrade to a better room, but having to pay the extra $$$ for it. Sadly, they didn’t even have the original room we booked and offered us a handicap room. Got into room and everything is lowered and not as nice as a normal room. Had to call and get moved to a 2 queen room instead of King room.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  No Upgrade  from  Resort King

Checked in around 5 PM on a fairly slow Wednesday for a 2-night stay. The rate was very low for Mirage, so it had to be a fairly show couple of days. I handed the clerk the sandwich and asked for an upgrade, and she immediately left the $20 on the counter and said none were available without even checking. Sounds like management might be cracking down on clerks giving these upgrades.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower suite on 24th floor  from  A comped deluxe room

Booked complementary deluxe room through the Player’s Club. Went to the invited guest check-in and all 3 or 4 clerks were young, attractive females(which I usually look for). So, I just took the first available. She set the $20 aside and stamped my credit card. I told her that I was a frequent customer and would sure like to have pool side on the 24th floor if at all possible(which you can tell from other reviews is the tower mini-suite floor, along with 25). The check-in “company line” is that they cannot upgrade comped rooms. I guess that’s not entirely true. One last comment. I’ve been doing this since I 1st discovered this site in ’07(I think it was). Well, the Mirage is still 100% and so am I. Not one denial. 24th floor pool side with a free bottle of Brut the next day……..

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Deluxe Tower Room  from  Standard Room

We arrived at the Mirage about 10am. There were lines, but not terribly long ones. We tried checking in at that time, did the sandwich trick, and asked very politely “we were wondering if you could check and see if there are any complimentary room upgrades available?” She was a very nice younger lady, and she said she would be very happy to do that for us. She explained the rooms were full now, but gave us a card to redeem at the express check in line in “2 or 3 hours.” We were thrilled. I mentioned it was my birthday, after the fact, and they threw in free champagne. We booked a standard room, and ended up with a tower deluxe room, overlooking the strip and the volcano. We were on the top floor, 30th, with private elevators, and a jet tub with his and her sinks, and a flat screen TV. Best 20 dollars spent in Vegas!!

Tipped:  $30 Upgraded to  Tower Deluxe  from  Regular

I was checking in with my girl friend on Thursday night. There wasn’t a big line. As some the reviews here suggested, I picked the younger looking girl at the front desk. I gave her my DL and CC, held my wallet in my hand and politely asked if I could be upgraded to a tower deluxe. Worked like a charm! Tipped her $20.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and on the check out day, went back and tipped her again.

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Tower Deluxe  from  Standard

We are a family of four. I had booked a 4 star hotel through hotwire, which turned out to be mirage. I was positive that I would be given a low room overlooking the casino/lobby roof. So I drove in a bit early at around 1:30 p.m. Since I had a got a sweet deal on hotwire, I was willing to pay a bit extra. I waited for a early 20’ish female who seemed a bit cheerful when compared to the rest of them. When asked for my card and ID, I gave her the sandwich and ensured that she could see both the $20 bills. I told her it was our anniversary and if we could get a complimentary upgrade. She said sure, put the 40 in her pocket right away.

THE RESULT: She was willing to give a Jacuizzi king bed suite. But since I needed 2 queen beds, she gave me a tower suite on 27’th floor. The room was nice, wonderful strip view, spa jet tub, free internet and freee passes to the habitat 🙂 Overall I was quite happy with the deal!
