It was early evening about 7pm when we arrived. We were a party of 8 and all checked in all 4 rooms together. We each slipped in $50 between our id and credit card and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She said let me have a look , Put us all in the grand tower with strip views. And she said is the tip for her and we all said yes. We stayed for 6 nights. We did ask for a breakfast voucher or can she do something on restore fees but she said she couldn’t.
Best $50 spent in Vegas ! Will definitely try it again.
Booked petite king online via MGM website. Arrived around 3p with a few people ahead of me in line. When it came my turn I was helped by a very friendly young lady. We had good banter and she was tuned into what was going on..asking “is this your first time here?” in a good natured tone. She upgraded me to strip view grand king. Not sure what else happened after that because I got a call from customer relations shortly after getting into my room asking how my stay was going. Same thing happened again on the 2nd night of my stay.
FWIW – it is key to use the word “complimentary” when asking if any upgrades available. I failed this once during a stay @ Mirage – the clerk only offered me the pricing for upgraded rooms.
Our clerk was a youngish Indian man, very nice. Just slid the money to him in the sandwich and asked if he could check to see if any complimentary upgrades were available. He upgraded us to a strip view with 2 comped buffets. The website states this room is $5 more per night, so with the buffets we considered it ok. It wasn’t a suite, but it was a little better than we had booked, and our room was nice.
Just came back from my weekend stay at MGM Grand. Came to the check-in desk and looked at the workers helping guests and found a young lady in her mid 20’s. Started conversation off asking her how she was doing, has it been a busy weekend for them, blah blah. I was going to do the sandwich but there were so many other staff around that i thought it would be inappropriate and ruin any chance of an upgrade. instead i kindly asked if there were any comp upgrades available and she quickly began looking. found a room and spoke to her manager for a second and they were able to give me a Hollywood suite (the suite above the Celebrity suite). I gladly took it and thanked her. I dont remember her name but she was very sweet and helpful.
Airport checkin….credit card sandwich $20…upgraded us (4 – 34year olds) to Marquee Suite in Vegas for Bachelor Party. Also gave us $300 credit for food at the resort (which lasted one night).
Checked in at the airport desk. There were two males on duty. Issued the sandwhich and asked for comp upgrade. Clerk checked, while leaving $20 on desk. Two upgrades were offered, one of which was West Wing King – I took that one as it was more modern according to the clerk.
Clerk took the time to thank me for the tip, which is most important in my opinion.
We had booked the West Wing King Room with the hopes of dropping $100 to get a better room. We checked-in around 3pm and the lines were long, didn’t have a choice, ended up with a guy in his 30’s. Slipped him the $100, and asked about upgrades. He typed for a couple minutes then handed it back and said there was nothing he could do. Not headed back to MGM any time soon, the West Wing is horrible.
Gave the the 20$ Sandwich and asked kindly for a nice and decent room as we stayed 3 nights. The lady found the 20 looked at me funny and put it back on the desk, only using my ID and credit card. Apparently no upgrade available or she refrained to take it because of another colleague standing nearby? Or I might have failed 😉
Tried tipping $100 to get a king or an upgrade. Was offered to pay $20 a night to upgrade and was handed the $100 bill back. Pretty embarrassing. Paid $250 a night for this room too and am a gold MLIFE member. Guess MGM ain’t the place to try this trick
Gave the the 20$ Sandwich. The lady looked at me funny and gave the 20 back. She then asked if I would like to pay for an upgrade.
