Checked in at 7:30pm on Friday night. I wasn’t feeling good about the upgrade since Ricki Martin was playing Saturday night and Ice Cube on Sunday. I gave a $20 just like explained and asked if any complimentary upgrades are available. She looked at me and said she would make sure they’re were. Our room was very big and had a view of the strip that everyone in our group took pictures of. We obivously very happy.
Arrived on Tuesday looked for line with a male between 25-30 like everyone suggests. I handed him my credit card & ID with the $20 in between and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. He told me he could upgrade me to a suite with one king bed and I declined because I needed a room with two queens. I was tempted to get it. He then offered me a newly remodeled room which he stated had only been slept in twice. The rooms were nice. 42in plasma in bedroom and 9in in the bathroom. He did give the room on the 17th floor which is the highest floor with the newly remodeled rooms.
looked like i would have the perfect male clerk but then this goofy girl waved me over.
anyway, it was the weekend of the avn awards so they didn’t have any suites. i had booked at the poker room rate and got upgraded to a nice strip view on a high floor with a free rollaway
all good.

Just like everyone else, slipped the $20 b/t my Credit Card and ID and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She said “of course, we don’t have any suites left, but I’ll get you something nice”. I was satisfied considering I could have been looking at the parking lot, but instead I had a decent room with a full mountain view.
I checked for two rooms at 9 am on Friday morning. I pulled the standard trick with the 20 spot. I saw that she noticed the $20 and I then asked if there were any comp. upgrade available. She looked on the computer and told me that all the suites were booked. It didn’t shock me because I heard from someone else that the hotel was sold out for both Fri and Sat nights. I could tell that she wanted to keep the twenty so she started to work her magic. She was able to get us checked in 6 hours before standard check in time. She gave us 4 extra keys for our unregistered guest to get into the pool (Mandalay requires an activated key to get into thier awesome pool area.) She also offered comped fridges to be delivered to our rooms (she said that the normally we $20 a day.) A refridgerator was delivered to each room within minutes of our check in time. No room upgrade, but the extra comps and service were well worth the tip.
Arrived at 9:30 PM. Slipped 20$ between ID and CC and asked for Upgrade. Clerk said no Upgrade available and gave it back.
Hubby checked in while I looked around. We originally booked a ?regular room for five nights with an $89.95/nite promotion deal. We got an upgraded room on the 8th floor with not much of a view, but nice plasma tv and a tv in the bathroom and new, hip furnishings. Unpacked and realized there were no ashtrays in the room (we specifically asked the fellow checking us if it was a smoking room). When hubby went downstairs to use the payphone and ask for ashtrays, he was told it was a non-smoking room and they moved us to an executive suite on the 25th floor, Fiji wing (strip view) Well worth packing up and unpacking again!
Checked in at Mandalay on February 8th and tucked the $20 between ID and credit card. Was going to be offered a penthouse room, but since the Mosley fight was in town, none were available. Instead, we were offered a room described as “a penthouse room without the view.” The view we got was of the Luxor and theHotel. The room came with a huge plasma flat screen (40 inch, maybe) in the bedroom as well as a smaller one in the bathroom. 2 brand new queen size pillow topped beds. We were told the room was remodeled 3 weeks prior and the beds were brand new. We also got a few extra keys for the room. Overall, pretty sweet deal.
Put $20 between ID and credit card and asked for a complimentary upgrade to surprise my wife. She said “Thank you”, did some magic on the computer and gave me a very nice, quiet room with an excellent view. Vegas, baby, Vegas!
