Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Luxury Suite  from  Standard

I followed the advice to the letter and slipped the clerk $20 whilst casually asking if there were any complimentary room upgrades. She looked me in the eye and smiled as if she knew exactly what was going on. She asked if it was a special occasion and I told her I was celebrating my birthday (which I was), then she said “I’ll be right back”. On her return she said she was able to put us up in a luxury suite for the first night, which we were told goes for $5000 per night. The suite was massive and although it was not one of the new-style suites, it was amazing. For the other 4 nights of our stay we were booked into one of the newly refurbished rooms which was also lovely. I am so glad I found this website and hope you all have success in getting your free upgrade.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Renovated room with pool view  from  Standard room

Slipped a $20 between the drivers license and credit card. I asked if there were any upgrades and anything else he could provide. Not a big room upgrade, but we did get 2 free buffets and a free visit to the shark reef. So the $20 investment paid off.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Nothing  from  Deluxe

Clerk checked us in and informed me that there were no upgrades (“suites are full”) prior to noticing the tip. She said “But I did give you the newly renovated room which normally costs $20 more a night”. However, all standard rooms have now completed renovation at Mandalay Bay so this was not an upgrade. I even asked her about any other items such a pass for us to check out the gym, etc (normally $27 per person/day). Did not provide anything. After she saw the tip she said “Are you sure?” I would have felt silly asking for it back and let her keep it. Not sure how to use the suggested tip if the clerk doesn’t pick up the provided ID/Credit Card until after doing most of the check-in portion.

I followed the “How to” steps, and without blinking the girl very politely said of course and upgraded my room. The suite was beautiful, huge and very clean! It really works!

Did the $20 between the credit card and license. Asked very nicely for a complimentary upgrade. He gave us the Honeymoon suite on the 14th floor. Easy.

Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Top Floor remodeled Parlor Suite  from  standard room 3 nights

Walked up to the front and said “checking in” as I handed my ID and credit card, I had a crisp $50 right on top clear as day.

I said my last name and said I was hoping there was a complementary upgrade available.

The gentlemen smiled and said Im sure we can come up with something for you. How would a parlour suite be?

I checked in late around 7pm and the hotel seemed busy. I am staying for 3 days so thought $50 would get me better luck and it did ! WOW 2 jacuzzi tubs and 2 bedrooms in a HUGE living room.

The people I met from out of town stayed elsewhere and were actually AFRAID to try the $20 trick…even after my success.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Executive Suite (Plasma TV, TV in bathroom, jacuzzi)  from  Standard 2 Queen

I was in for my bachelor party, and slipped the $20 in between the CC and DL, per this site’s recommendations, and just asked for any upgrades. She was going to do it when my bro sauntered in, and picked up my CC and DL because he didn’t want me to pay. The $20 goes flittering away, obvious to everyone. The clerk was still cool about it. Gave us a slightly upgraded room, plus $40 minibar credit. Not great, but better than nothing, and definitely worth the $20.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Parlor Suite  from  Standard Room

Success! It was way too simple. Slipped the 20 between my license and CC. The nice gentelman (William) told me to hold on a minute while he checked. He went in to the back for about 2 minutes, came back and told me he can upgrade me to the 1,500 sq ft Parlor Suite in the newly remodeled wing. It’s got 5 flat screen TV’s with 2 in the bathroom. Best $20 i’ve ever spent.
