Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Luxury Suite  from  Tower Deluxe room

Slid my twenty folded in half between my id and credit card. As soon as she saw the twenty, she started becoming much more talkative and friendly. When I asked her if there were any complimentary upgrades available as I handed her my ID and credit card, she told me she’d see what she could do. She ended up giving showing me the list of available rooms and I got to choose. Great success.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Deluxe Room  from  Tower Deluxe Room

She saw the $20 and we asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She didn’t do any typing but just said no. She then said she can “upgrade” us to the Tower Deluxe Room. I said thanks but our reservations were already for said room.

Would I try it again? Yes. I got my twenty back by the way. hehe..

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to    from  Pyramid Deluxe (2 Kings)

My wife had made the reservations and therefore was the one to check-in. A tall, burly young woman was behind the counter, so it didn’t look good from the start. Sure enough the woman told my wife that “there are no complimentary upgrades, but you can upgrade for $20 a night” and left the $20 on the counter. Given that it was a Thursday morning and a local convention had just cleared out the day before, we had high hopes that this would work. My tip is to not let your wife work as your travel agent and let someone go in front of you if the next available clerk is a woman with broader shoulders than you.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  tower premier suite  from  tower deluxe

i checked in at around midnight, there was a huge lineup so we were assigned to the next availiable clerk, an asian man around 30. He saw the $20 under my credit card, looked up and said thank you and went back to typing on his computer. when he was done he told us the room he selected for us was in the east tower and gave us directions. we weren’t sure if we were upgraded or not until we got there and the room was freakin’ huge!! it turned out to be one of the best suites, over 1000 sq feet with seperate living, dining, bedroom, 2 sinks, vanity, wet bar, jet tub, sperate shower and beautiful view, much better than the studio we booked =)

Great experience, did the usual 20 slip. Guy at check-in found a suite in the tower and let me have promotions with my original booking, plus I won a lot at craps.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Queen  from  Tower King

Not only did we not get upgraded, we essentially got downgraded as the Luxor had no clean kings available when we checked in. We had a choice between 2 queens or to wait for a king. We chose the queens. We tried the $20 trick by asking for an upgrade but we were told nothing was available. He slid the $20 back with our keys. We DID, however, get upgraded on our rental car at Enterprise…got a Mustang convertilbe for $22/day…That worked out well.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Room, High Level, Strip View  from  Pyramid Deluxe

We moved from the palms over to luxor on tuesday morning, and after the success at the palms decided to try the 20 dollar trick again. I looked at a couple clerks, figuring out which one’s would probably be most willing to help. Went to the desk with the $20 bill in between the credit card and the id, and asked for any complimentary upgrades. She asked us to wait a second and let her check. She said that she has a room in the tower, where the rooms are nicer. I knew the price difference was $10 a night anyways, so I figured we were just paying for the price of the tower room. However, when she gave us the keys, she said we would be on the 15th floor, so at least we were getting a high floor. We went to the room and were impressed to find a beautiful view of the corner of tropicana and las vegas blvd. I’ll gladly give the $20 to the clerk rather than the hotel, as I think the hotel took enough money of mine as it was.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Deluxe  from  Pyriamid Deluxe

Waited in line for a younger Male as it appears this works better. Clerk was Asian and about 25 years old. I handed over my DL and CC with the $20 in between them and simply asked “Do you have any complimentary upgrades”. He saw the $20 and told me he would check with his Manager. After about 1 minute he came back and was ready to upgrade us to a Tower Suite!! I couldn’t beleive it. Unfortunately after searching he informed me that due to it being Nascar weekend the suites were full so he put us in a Tower Deluxe room and then handed me 2 free buffet tickets. I was impressed…too bad it wasn’t such a busy weekend otherwise we would’ve received a suite!! I’ll be trying this everytime I travel now.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Pyrmaid Spa Suite  from  Pyramid Deluxe

I folded up a $20 and put it between the driver license and credit card. When the front desk gut asked for the driver license and credit card, I put it on the counter and said, “I was told to ask about upgrading to a Spa Suite,” and fanned out the cards to expose the $20. He quickly grabbed all three items and typed in his computer for about a minute, told me I was all set, then held up the $20 and said thank you. Walked into the room and there the spa was. Best $20 I spent in Vegas.
