I stayed at Harrah’s last year and had no luck. I notice that there are no recent postings for this hotel and as I am staying there next week if anyone has submited any recent results.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  deluxe, with pillowtop king, balcony, flat screen tv in bathroom  from  standard

I told my husband about the trick and he thought I was crazy, but said he would try it. We got there about 9pm on a Saturday. There were only two women working the front desk. Neither looked particularily friendly. The one that ended up helping us looked down right mean when we walked up. My husband told her our names and gave her his license and the twenty. I’ve never seen anybody perk up like she did! She gave us a great room, lots of coupons, and two free show and drink tickets. She said the room was $15 a night more and since we were staying a week, this was a good upgrade. It was worth it for the pillowtop king mattress alone!

First off, we didn’t know until we got in the cab from the airport but the Rodeo was in town and it seemed as if Harrah’s was the central location and appeared very busy.

While in line, we just waited for the next clerk, who was a mid-20’s female. I was very friendly and the attitude was reciprocated. I had a $20 bill between my license, credit card and Total Rewards card. I asked her if there were any complimentary upgrades today. She stalled for a second, so I added that it was my girlfriend’s birthday while we were there (it was the day we left.) She placed the bill on her keyboard, typed away and said it wasn’t a suite but she could get us in a better room with a nice view of the Mirage Volcano show.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to    from  Standard Room

We checked in early around 11:30am and approached a woman in her early 50s. I handed her the sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She placed the $20 by her keyboard and said she had to ask the managers. When she returned she said that upgrades were for “sale”…not for free. What she offered was a room that was recently renovated with a view of the strip for $15 more per night. We decided not to pay for the upgrade and she gave us our $20 back. In addition, she told us that there was a $10 charge added to our fee because we booked directly with the hotel over the phone. If I had known this I would have booked online for the same amount and wouldn’t have been charged $10. I was not happy and probably wont be staying at this hotel again.

I went up to the counter in the diamond registration and gave the girl the twenty dollar sandwich and got a big grin on her face and upgraded me and my wife from a king bed to a very nice suite on floor number thirty.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  strip view  from  basic

As my wife waited outside the check-in line embarrassed that I would try to tip the clerk, I waited in line for a minute, then left quickly realizing I would be waited on by either of the males. While waiting though I overheard the family in front of me being waited on by the younger female and thanking them for something and her also thanking them. So I figured she would be the one I wanted to go to. There was no one in line, so when her window opened up, I went straight to her. After I handed her the $20 sandwich, her eyes got real wide and immediately thanked me for the tip and put it behind the keyboard. I said it was our anniversary and would appreciate any upgrades she could provide. I think it helped that we were close to same age with kids as we discussed our kids for a while. She offered a new remodeled room with 2 plasma tv’s but would be overlooking the carnival bar and might be loud throughout the night. Or she could give us a 16th floor strip view but was a regular room. both of them would’ve cost extra but said she would be able to upgrade for free. I chose the strip view as I was cautious to hearing the bar all night, even though we ended up there most nights anyway. Strip view wasnt much of a view, since the layout of Harrahs doesnt allow for the best views. But it worked great and got what we wanted and loved the stay. Would definitely recommend the $20 sandwich as tips go a long way in vegas, especially while playing video poker at the bar or blackjack. as long as there are tips, the drinks keep coming. much cheaper then paying full price (5 or 6 bucks per).

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Suite  from  Basic

The $20 tip got us upgraded from a free basic room to a suite, but was only allowed to stay in there for one night since the weekend was approaching. Not sure if it was completely worth it since we got in at 11 p.m. and had to check out at 11 a.m.

I had a two-night comp through the Total Rewards club. When I checked in, I had the $20 folded between my credit card and drivers license. When the clerk saw it, her eyes widened as if in horror and she handed it back to me before I could even say anything. I asked if there were any kind of upgrades available, but she wouldn’t give me anything for free.

The clerk spent several minutes on his computer clicking away. Finally excused himself – when he returned he apologized and said the boss said he couldn’t upgrade us to a suite because it was the weekend. He returned my 20.

Had two nights comped into a deluxe room on a Fri and Sat. Didn’t get in until 9:30pm and when checking in asked if there were any upgrades available. Handed her the $ sandwich and got an immediate “No upgrades available on Fri or Sat nights” because they were so busy those nights. She handed the $ back saying she couldn’t take it if she couldn’t help me and continued the check in. Mentioned that I would really like her to have the $ and hoped there was something she could do. She said Hang on and checked with a mgr. Came back and got us into a 14th floor room overlooking the pool and part of the strip. Gave her the $ after completing the check in. It was a much nicer room with 2 LCD’s and pillowtop bed. Worth the $!
