$20 Upgraded to
Deluxe with Balcony and Pool view
from
Standard
First time in Vegas and read about this online as I was looking to see if you can do free upgrades. Slipped a $20 when she asked for payment and ID and asked if here were any complimentary upgrades. Immediately said “Sure we can do something” as she discreetly put the $20 in her pocket. So worth it! She gave is the option of a pool view or strip view and said we could get a nicer room of we had a pool view.

$100 Upgraded to
Executive Suite
from
Deluxe... aka 'standard.'
My wife and I were staying at Harrah’s, comped the first two nights, $35/night for the second two. I decided to go big and specifically ask for an Executive Suite, and since we were staying 4 nights, I went with a $100 bill. Got a younger female clerk, handed her the sandwich and told her “That’s for you if you can get me a complimentary upgrade to an executive suite.” She did some typing, spoke to her manager, and said “I have you for 4 nights in an executive suite.” We got into the room, it was spectacular: Wet bar, separate living & bedroom, huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub & massive shower, strip view looking straight down on the Mirage volcano. Definitely the best $100 we spent on this trip!

$20 Upgraded to
Executive Suite
from
Standard 2 Queen Room
Arrived late 11pm. Went to the next available clerk (Female, 30ish). Ask politely for a complementary room upgrade as I handed her my sandwich. She knew the game and proceeded to say she got me a nice room. I was amazed when I got to my room, 30th floor overlooking the strip. 2 Room suite with Jacuzzi tub, wet bar. Looked it up later and found out it was the executive suite. Great upgrade for the week stay. Well worth trying to get any upgrade.

I was hesitant to try the sandwich at Harrah’s since there haven’t been any reports since last year, but I tried it anyways. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to target a certain clerk. We ended up with Mark, a quiet older gentleman, at about 1PM. We presented the sandwich and asked for any complimentary room upgrades. After a few seconds of looking at the computer, we were offered a newly remodeled Deluxe room which we gladly accepted. YES!

Arrived just after 4 PM. There wasn’t a line, and I was waved over by the clerk. I already had my $andwich ready to go, and handed it over while asking if I could get something better then the “Expedia” class of room. She smiled and said “Let’s see what we can do” We ended up getting upgraded to a deluxe with an eighth floor view of the strip hotels and mountains in the distance, and a small balcony, as well! This was in addition to the better bedding, bath, and TV the deluxe provides. Definitely worth the $20!

COMP-Premium Pet Stay
Was offered a two-night complimentary room Tuesday and Wednesday at CET’s web site (TotalRewards). Was given a choice of “Deluxe” or “PremiumPetStay.” Though I don’t have a pet (and wouldn’t bring a pet to Vegas anyway), I chose the latter, it being a better quality room. I arrived really early, at 11am, and decided to check my bags rather than seeing if I could check in so early. I waited until 3pm before checking in. I stood in line, handed the clerk my license, CC, and a $20 tip below it, and asked for any upgrade and also the possibility of a late check out. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a suite or even a very fancy room. The clerk told me I could check out at 1pm instead of 11am. I wanted 3pm, but she told me to call down at 1pm the day of my check out. (I didn’t end up doing that, I checked out at 1pm anyway.) The room was OK, nothing awesome, but overall decent. I really can’t complain. A $20 tip on a comp room for 2 nights is $10/night. Yet, I don’t think it was an upgrade from what I already booked (no junior suite, no executive suite) and my tip only bought me 2 extra hours before I had to leave for the aiport for my 5:30pm flight. I ended up going to a different hotel/casino and storing my bag there. The verdict is mixed. (Side note: I’ve personally had better success with the $20 tip elsewhere.)
