I was at the Hard Rock for 4 nights and gave a 30$ to the girl at the frontdesk. She gave me a big suite instead of a classic 2 beds room. My friends tried too and got a view upgrade. Nice stay!
Booked a room in the newest all-suite HRH tower for a very busy weekend in Vegas (St. Patrick’s day, college spring break, first weekend of March Madness). Checked in around 4 PM on Friday. Handed the clerk the sandwich and asked for any complimentary upgrades. Clerk searched pretty hard but couldn’t come up with much. She did offer a suite in the Casino Tower, but the standard HRH rooms are nicer, so I stuck with what I had. Clerk kept the $20. This has worked before for me in the Casino and Paradise towers, but in the HRH tower there just isn’t much you can get upgraded to, especially on a busy weekend. Still had a great room though!
There was a line when checking in around 1pm. There were about 4 or 5 clerks at the time. We waited and got called up to the first available clerk. They had one main line for everyone so you don’t really pick which clerk to stand in line for. Just went up to the clerk with the sandwich handed it to her said I had a reservation and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She took the 20 bill and placed it to the side of the keyboard and went to work. It wasn’t a huge upgrade but we did get it for 3 nights so it wasn’t that big of an expense. The other view we would have had would have been rooftop. Since we were staying 3 night at first she said she wouldn’t be able to upgrade us for all 3 but then we said it would be a pain to have to move and she kept checking and then was able to get us the upgraded room.
The other option she gave us would have been on the 10th (of 11) floor but didn’t have one ready that was the king bed we were looking for. Instead it was a 2 queen room. Having the 5th room floor that we had gave us a closer view of the pool but being up higher would have given us a better view of all three pools instead of just the one we could see on our side. Partial view of the strip also on that side of the hotel.
Line for check-in was not too long. Waited about 10-15 minutes behind two very drunk girls – was worried one of them was going to loose their load at any minute or crash to the floor. The woman who checked us in was very nice between 25-30. Slipped her the $50 between my license and credit card and asked if there were any comps available. She smiled, said thank you and she’d see what she could do. I don’t think we got anything special.
I was glad we got a room in the paradise tower – the room was really nice and a good size. We were 10 or so rooms down from the hotel. We had a mountain view room that also included the roof of the parking garage – thankfully we were up about 8 floors so it didn’t impact our view. No comps for dinner, drinks, gambling, shows or the spa.
Overall we had a good time. Next time I’d probably save the $50 and tip a server or host. Live & Learn – glad I gave it a shot. May have worked if it weren’t a holiday weekend.
Went to vegas mid March. Went up to the counter with the sandwich trick. The girl checking me in was surprised and said “what is this for?” I gave her the line and she more than happily upgraded me. Only problem is she gave me one bed when we needed two. It was a simple fix and were put in a room with two beds. SUCCESS!
I checked into the new Tower Suites at Hard Rock hotel, and there were two agents working. The Suites just opened Dec. 28th and have a private check-in area. A reservation agent on the phone had told me they were all the same, but differed according to view. I sandwiched her $20 and asked for any complimentary upgrades available. Got a higher floor and a pool view room (but the pool was under construction so nothing to look at). I think she could have offered a corner room or something nicer, so not sure I got much for the money. She did put us on the guest list for the club at my request, but then they ended up scheduling a private party for the night we were on the list. I also sandwiched at two other hotels the same week (Bellagio and TI) and only got higher floors and excellent views–not a suite or room with any special features. Oh, and the rooms were immediately ready, so that was nice.
Checked in around 3pm and got a male clerk around 26 or so. Chatted briefly with him and gave him my $50 sandwich and asked if there were any upgrades that would include 2 side by side rooms. He took the money and slid it in his pocket then told us he could give us 2 rooms on the 15th floor of the brand new paradise tower next to each other. Worked perfectly.
I’ve been upgraded 85% of the time I stay here by just being friendly and patient with the desk staff. I’ve haven’t tried the sandwich trick (most of the time, they upgrade me to the pool view of the same room I’ve booked without asking).
I was a bit nervous because I\’d never done anything like this before but I gave the $20 with our credit card. The clerk took it and noticed the bill right away. She began looking in the computer and so I then asked if there were any upgrades available. She said she would look and see what she could do. When she said king corner suite in paradise tower we were very happy. Our room was great! The view incredible and all well worth the $20!
Around 3 pm asked if could have room upgraded for anniversary
