Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  HRH Supreme King  from  Casino Tower 2 Queen

Sandwiched a 20 between ID and CC, asked if upgrade was available and offered Paradise Tower with 2 Queens. Changed bed preference to 1 King and HRH opened up.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Casino Tower  from  Paradise Tower

Booked thru SouthWest travel and got a “deluxe room” which turned out to be in the Paradise Tower – i asked if there were any free upgrades and she said Casino Tower either side – chose the mountain view (pools were closed anyways). Loved the opening doors on the balcony and enjoyed the views! I already had the $20 out so I just gave it to her anyways, but i really didn’t need to.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Deluxe Suite, Pool View  from  Standard King, Pool View

Checking in on a Sunday gave me confidence with this. I think your chances of getting an upgrade are way better on weekdays, or when there are no major events in town. I had a two night stay COMPED to me from the hotel. I didn’t target a specific clerk. I handed the clerk the “sandwich” around 5pm while having a friendly chat with her. I didn’t mention an upgrade at all. She did some typing and handed us our room keys. I wasn’t sure if it worked until we opened the door to see we were in a two-room suite, complete with a spa tub, two 50″ TVs, a large shower, wet bar, couch, dining table, etc. It was the best $20 I spent during the entire trip. I will do it again and again.

Saved:  $Probably $600 Tipped:  $100 Upgraded to  HRH Pool Suite  from  Casino Tower

Check in time is at 3pm or something, right? Well, we showed up at 3am, the previous morning.

Head to the desk, we’re tired, we want a room. Sorry, we’re full and busy this weekend, best I can do is to wait until at least noon to check in, but we can hold your bags at the bell desk.

Ok, are there any upgrades or anything we can purchase just so we can sleep? Here, I can give you this (passed a nice, fresh $100 bill).

Click click click on the keyboard, yeah I have something, but in a different tower. Fine with us!

Got upgraded to the new tower, bigger room, overlooking the pool for 3 nights. Best $100 I ever spent.

Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  HRH Pool Suite  from  Casino Tower

A 20 has gotten me a room way before 4PM check in, and also got me into their nicer Paradise tower with strip view (but 2 beds).
If they have availability a 50 has gotten me into the HRH tower, a 1,000sqft suite, and a corner king. During the week my buddy did the same and got a $400/night bachelor party room for $100/night.

Saved:  $200 Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Paradise Tower Corner  from  Paradise Tower

Slipped $40 between card and id. Woman at the desk asked, “How can I help you today?” I asked if there were any upgrades available. Few keystrokes and was on my way to a corner king room. Saved about $200 for the 3 nights I was there.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Paradise Tower Pool View Queens  from  Casino Tower Mountain View Queens

Arrived at 6:30pm on a Tuesday evening, on my check-in date. Did the line, was not particularly busy, only a few people ahead of me. My turn came up and I chose whoever was available.
I chatted him up, asked how busy it was during the previous weekend and when he asked me for my DL and Credit Card I handed him my premade sandwich and said “do you have any complementary rooms available for upgrade?”
He grabbed my DL and Credit Card and cleverly put the 20 in his pocket. He typed away and found me a room.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Supreme Double Queen Suite  from  Supreme Double Queen Suite

Came in early and was worried about being able to check in (existing check in time was around 3PM). Slipped the $20 bill in between my ID and credit card to the man behind the desk at about 11AM and asked him if there was anything he could do to help us out. He immediately found a corner room (nearly 100 sq. ft. larger) on the top floor and asked no questions. Definitely saved us some anxiety.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Hollywood Hip w/ Fountain view  from  Hollywood Hip

I checked in at around 1PM on a Wednesday and I was staying until Sunday. I did not target anyone in particular but I got a very friendly african american girl. Her name started with an M, but Idon’t recall it exactly. I was very direct and walked up and said “is it true you guys cannot accept tips any more?” Her response was that she was new but had never heard that. So I said, quite obviously, “oh excuse me while I turn around” and I reached into my pocket. I intended to pass her a $50 sandwich, but she made it clear that they were EXTREMELY booked for the weekend I was there. I knew that was the truth because there was some music rave in town that was supposed to draw over 200K people. I requested specifically a room with two beds that were in different rooms (angling for a Panorama), She actually went in the back supposedly to ask what she could do, and came back to say the best she could do was a better view because they were so booked. But she was pretty clear about the fact that she would have done the Panorama if it were available. I had both a $50 bill and a $20 ready. I gave her the $20 because it was not much of an upgrade. But it did work and I guess they are still accepting tips at the PH. Good luck!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Paradise Tower--Corner King w/ Pool and Strip views  from  Casino Tower

Checked in at 3 PM on a Sunday for 2 nights. Waited in line and got waved over by a managerial-looking lady, so I was a bit worried. Handed her the sandwich, asked for the free upgrade and she said she’d see what she could do. She asked if I’d like a bigger room in the older Casino tower, or something in a newer tower. I asked for the new tower. She gave me one of the best non-suite rooms in the hotel: corner king on the west side of the Paradise Tower, with views of the pool and the strip. That’s the 2nd time I’ve gotten a corner king with the $20 trick at the Hard Rock. Well worth the investment!
