Clerk was very friendly and did not seem surpised or angry. She spent several minutes looking for an upgrade, finally asked if I was willing to wait two hours for a room to get ready. I replied no. Tne bill had been sitting on the counter and I took it back. She was still very friendly and I ended up tipping her $10 for her efforts. I’ll try again, and again.
Asked for any complimentary Upgrades and got a corner room in the newer tower with plenty of space.
We showed up around 10pm on a Monday. I didn’t show the $20 right away cause my wife was scared we might get in trouble. So after the female Latina clerk looked for a room, she asked if we didn’t mind a smoking room. I said no, we need a non-smoking room. So that’s when I flashed the $20 and asked if there might be any complimentary upgrades. She checked, found a suite for only the first night out of three. I asked, no upgrades for all three nights? She said, “No, we don’t give upgrades for that many nights.” So I put the $20 back in my wallet. She asked if we could wait an hour while they fix up the room. We said yes, but it took friggin 2 hours before we finally got the suite. I can sorta understand, we did check in extremely late and they actually did turn away customers without a reservation. Gorgeous suite by the way, at least for one night. Definitely worth trying the $20 trick. Plasma tv, feather pillows, model home style design, a tv built into the bathroom mirror, and a real nice showerhead built in the ceiling of the shower. Checked into a standard room for the other two nights, and was given a room of the pool when we asked. $57/night 4-star from H**wire
Female was very nice. I did exactly as suggested
to no availe. She said we are not allowed to
give any complimentary upgrades and promptly
returned my 20. I was hoping for a male clerk,
but, all were female! She seemed to be a new
hire as she was asking others how to enter info
into the pc.
Checked in around 1 p.m. on a busy Friday afternoon. We inquired if there were any comlimentary upgrades and placed the 20.00 with my husband’s license and credit card. They were totally sold out so it didn’t work, but we got a nice room close to the elevators. The clerk was very nice and apologized that there was nothing available and she gave us our 20.00 back.
Worked as described. From the reviews I pretty much expected to get bumped from South to North tower, and that’s what happened. Clerk was young but professional; handed him license & CC w/ $20 in between as described here and he placed it on the keyboard while he checked. After he told me he put me in the North tower I noticed the $20 was gone.
Also, I asked if there was a refrigerator in the room. There isn’t, but he said they could have one brought in. I asked if there was a charge, and he said there normally is but he could waive it if the refrigerator was for “medicinal purposes”. I told him yes, we must keep the “medicine” cold. That was a nice extra bonus.
The switch to the North tower is definitely worth it; the South Tower is a serious walk away from the casino and Fremont St.
Checked in at the worst possible time – 2pm on Friday afternoon. Not really surprised that it didn’t work. Clerk said straight away that they were fully booked and returned our $20 immediately.
She upgraded me to a 8th floor North Tower room which is a lot closer. I asked her for a room with a Jacuzzi and she said she had one that was a smoking room. I took it but it was a one person Jacuzzi(not what I wanted).
The room was not impressive at all with a view of a concrete wall about 10 feet away.
The tip worked for an upgrade to the North Tower. These rooms were well appointed and nicely maintained. The North Tower is also more convenient to the Casino and Fremont Street.
We asked for the availability of any FREE Upgrades-he was happy to assist. Supervisor was standing right behind him too. Had a great room – very pleased with the Hotel, Staff, Service.
