My lady friend and I arrived at 3:00 pm on the dot on Feb 13th. We were staying for 2 nights and I was feeling adventurous and recalled the advise given on this website. I then sandwiched a $20 between my driver’s license and credit card and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. Without a blink of an eye, she placed both my credit card and driver’s license below the counter and began to search for a room. After a min or so, she was able to upgrade me from a standard rush tower room to a Rush tower JR suite. My, did I have a fantastic weekend there.
I walked up with the sandwich prepared and asked the clerk if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She picked up her phone and asked someone if a spa suite was available, and it wasn’t. She slid the twenty dollars back. Nice of her to try.
Figured I might have a decent chance for an upgrade since I was checking in on Sun. for a 3 night stay. I presented the $20 in between CC and DL, without skipping a beat the clerk handed it back, saying “Nothing is available”. No Luck for me this time.
Jackpot! The spa suites were amazing, 2 story suites that were over the top opulent. At check in they said we could get it for one night, but it ended up being 2. Well worth $20 because I would never book a room like that. Fun!
Walked up to the checkin desk with the 20 between my CC and DL and and said any type of upgrade would be apreciated. Clerk promptly told me the hotel was over booked and there were no upgrades available. She then told me that they would not have a room with a king bed until the next day, and that they would be putting us in a room with two double beds! Real nice since we booked our room throught their WEB site, you would think they would know how many King beds they had in their own hotel. When we got to the room the beds were not doubles they were more like twins. My wife and I had to sleep in seperate beds they were so small and we are not large people. Next day when we told the manager about this his attitude was a so what its a busy weekend and we don’t guarentee anythin.
Wife and I go to Vegas several times a year and we always stay at the GN. I usually get an upgrade via front desk tip, but this time was a no go. I presented sandwich as usual and the gal was busy trying, but finally returned tip, saying there was nothing available. I assumed it was because I was checking out on a Sat. and they were booked up for Friday night. On a side note the South Tower room we had was quite nice as it had a plasma tv. The only noticible difference between that and the North tower room we got last time was the upgraded linens and desk in the North Tower.
Husband and I were reserved for two nights, Thanksgiving included, for a regular South Tower room. I warned my husband that I was going for the upgrade. I had the “sandwich” ready. I noticed with amusement that the gentleman in front of us also had his “sandwich” ready. Our clerk was a woman, 30’s, and seemed very distracted or annoyed. I thought that we were going to be out of luck. I smiled big and asked nicely if there were any upgrades. She handed the 20 back and said she was putting us in the North Tower. I was kind of confused as to why she would give the 20 back. But that’s OK. I think maybe they were not booked up and had no problem giving upgrades. Thanksgiving week seemed really slow all over Vegas. It was a beautiful room with lovely bed linens. (we had been dreading the south tower with all the time share sharks) A good deal…..2 nights, $49 a night in North tower with good coupon book!!
Gave her a $20 with ID and credit card and asked if she had any really great rooms available. She poked around on the computer for a while, said she gave me the best she could, and returned the $20 to me. Got a better-than-usual room there — it was in the tower that’s been refurbished with nicer bedspreads and plasma TVs — but nothing special. I had a $59 promo rate for the weekend, so I was happy with what I got.
Worked like a charm. Booked a South Tower standard room. Checked in on a Wed. around 4pm. Upgraded to a North Tower, pool view, close to elevators with a 42inch plazma TV.
When I presented the sandwich she politely gave it back saying they recieved a memo on the sandwich’s and it was told not to accept them or get fired. She did talk to the manager though and got us a north tower pool view room upgrade for free.
