Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Rush Tower  from  Carson Tower

We checked in on a Friday afternoon. Gave the clerk ID, CC and $20. He upgraded us to the Rush tower, which was much nicer than the Carson tower. Very happy with the upgrade.

Saved:  $$300 Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Rush Tower Deluxe  from  Carson Tower

Checked in around 10:30pm, didn’t target any specific receptionist. Sandwiched the $20 in between my ID and credit card and asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades. He said he’d see what he could do, asked us if we wanted a room with a view or a quiet room. We chose a view. We were upgraded to a Rush Tower room with a view of Fremont street. Very pleased with our experience!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Gold  from  Carson

My credit card sandwich was refused by the clerk, who clarified that they are not allowed to accept tips for any reason. I then presented a Landry’s select card (costs $25 at any restaurant owned by Landry’s, like McCormick & Schmick’s) and was told that got me the last upgrade available.

Skip the $20, go get a Landry’s Select card and use that instead. $20 may work if you have a more experienced and confident employee.

No certain clerk. Arrived at hotel around noon, went to check in and when asked for ID and Credit Card, I stuck $20 in between and asked if there was any complimentary upgrades, clerk said let me look at what’s available. After about 30 seconds, he said that we do have a room that will be available for you.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  2 room suite  from  Standard Rush Tower

This was the first time I tried the “$20 trick”. I came in about 11AM on a Sunday. I went to the Nugget’s new Rush Tower check-in desk and it was pretty quiet. I told the clerk I had a reservation and he confirmed that I had a 1 king non-smoking room. When I handed him my credit card and drivers license, I sandwiched a $20 between them and said, “Do you happen to have any complementary room upgrades available?” The $20 came out when he separated the license and CC. He snatched it up pretty quick and said “let me take a look”. After a few minutes of poking around on his computer, he said he had a junior suite in the new Rush Tower or if I wanted to move to the Gold Tower, he had a 2 room suite. I took the larger 2 room suite and it was awesome! 2 bathrooms (TV in one, jetted bath in the other). Fantastic results on my first try!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  North tower room  from  South tower room

Husband and I were reserved for two nights, Thanksgiving included, for a regular South Tower room. I warned my husband that I was going for the upgrade. I had the “sandwich” ready. I noticed with amusement that the gentleman in front of us also had his “sandwich” ready. Our clerk was a woman, 30’s, and seemed very distracted or annoyed. I thought that we were going to be out of luck. I smiled big and asked nicely if there were any upgrades. She handed the 20 back and said she was putting us in the North Tower. I was kind of confused as to why she would give the 20 back. But that’s OK. I think maybe they were not booked up and had no problem giving upgrades. Thanksgiving week seemed really slow all over Vegas. It was a beautiful room with lovely bed linens. (we had been dreading the south tower with all the time share sharks) A good deal…..2 nights, $49 a night in North tower with good coupon book!!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  North Tower with pool view  from  South Tower standard

Was in town for the Barrett-Jackson auction so I didn’t know how booked the hotels would be. I have stayed at the GN bofore and like the property so I booked there. Booked a south tower standard room. I checked in Wed. approx 4pm., presented the $20 between DL and CC and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. Upgraded to a North tower room with a pool view, no problem. I’ll definately be back.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  2 nights spa suite, 2 nights back in the South tower  from  south tower (basic) -4 nights

Jackpot! The spa suites were amazing, 2 story suites that were over the top opulent. At check in they said we could get it for one night, but it ended up being 2. Well worth $20 because I would never book a room like that. Fun!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Spa Suite  from  South Tower

Asked the lady if they were busy, she said “yes” then handed my license and credit card with $20 and said “There wouldn’t be a chance of a complimentary upgrade, possibly the North Tower”? She checked and found a room in the North Tower and explained to us that it was designed for wheel chair access and we said ok. The Clerk next to her stated he had just gave that block out. She looked some more and asked if we would like to stay in one of the Spa Suites but it would be just for the night. I said yes immediately and left the twenty close to her, she asked if I wanted change and I told her that it was for her help. She was very nice. The next day at checkout/checkin i tried it on an older white lady. She said sorry nothing was available.
