No certain clerk. Arrived at hotel around noon, went to check in and when asked for ID and Credit Card, I stuck $20 in between and asked if there was any complimentary upgrades, clerk said let me look at what’s available. After about 30 seconds, he said that we do have a room that will be available for you.
Was kind of reluctant but decided to give it a shot. Pretty girl behind the desk searched and found me an upgraded room. Stayed in Carson Tower last year and was upgraded to Rush Tower this year. Improvement indeed. Nice birthday present.
No target. Took which came up as the line is long. 4pm. Took my $20 said I got a nice veiw and I remained in Carson tower eight rusty tub and room hadn’t been cleaned either then had no towels all week. Next time no Nugget.
Checked in about 4pm and went to first available clerk.
Was booked into the Carson tower (the farthest tower from the casino floor) at the special WSOP poker rate for 21 days so I was skeptical as to whether the sandwich trick would work but I tried it.
I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available and after a few seconds of typing on his keyboard he asked which tower I would prefer. I asked for the “Gold” tower, whose elevators open directly onto the casino floor.
He booked me into a Gold Club Luxury room whose upgrades over a Carson Tower room included a Keurig coffee maker, wrap around sofa, double bathroom sink/vanity, free fruit & newspaper each morning, free bottled water, and mini-fridge. The value of the newspaper alone for 21 days was $42.
An upgrade from the Carson tower to a regular Gold Tower room is worth about $30/day and the upgrade to a Gold Tower Luxury room another $30-$40/day.
Overall I would estimate my upgrade was easily worth $1200. Not bad for a twenty dollar bill.
We did not target any clerk but luckily got a young woman. It was 130 or 2 pm. I handed her the 40$ sandwich trick and asked if there were any upgrades. She looked at the money a bit shocked. Kinda hid it. Might have been the first time she got money. I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades and she said she would check. We had dogs so she put us in the other newer dog friendly rooms in the rush tower.
So we had 3 people stay in our room. There was a line to check in around 1pm so we figured we would see if the room was ready. We didn’t Target anyone there just got who we got. My wife gave her the sandwich and was honestly to nervous to ask or say anything to her 😁 but she took it right off the counter and told us to give her a second to see what she has. After she did say the first room was ready. Then she did want to make sure we needed 2 beds not 1 king. Unfortunately we had 3 staying with us so we needed 2 beds. It took a few more minutes then we got the room keys. Then she told us how she ended up putting us in the rush tower. The room was bigger then the one we paid for, it was in the 22nd floor looking right down Fremont Street. It was great. Thanks!!
We planned on doing the $20 sandwich and mentioning it was my boyfriend’s birthday (it was his birthday the day we checked in).
Waited and stalled briefly for a younger female front desk clerk when we checked in at 8:30pm on a Wednesday night. Wasn’t really busy. I read to target a younger female clerk for the $20 trick.
Slid her the sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. Also stated it’s my boyfriend’s birthday today. She said she’ll look at what’s available. She looked in her system and then walked away to speak with a male front desk clerk and they looked in the system together where he was standing. After a few minutes, she came back and said we were given a complimentary upgrade to a Gold Tower King Room on the 16th floor. She was very friendly the whole time and we were also engaging and talkative with her.
We were very pleased with our upgrade for 4 nights. Room was located on the 16th floor and not facing the pool or strip. I believe our floor may have been a club level because we had coffee and snacks outside the elevator on the floor, which was a nice feature.
2.30pm check in. Sat 15th June. It was actually my birthday so I pointed this out and said if I give you money will you give me a better room. She smiled and said yes. 25th floor newly refurbished (I think) Rush Tower Gold Club with a view of the strip.
Went to the desk at 10 pm. Gave the clerk my passport with 20$ inside and as he opened it and saw the 20 bucks he looked at me and I asked him if there‘s any complementary upgrade available. He asked my if we need two beds (we were 3 People) and I told him that it doesn‘t matter. He gave someone a call and after that he gave us the cards for our suite.
Checked in around 10:30pm, didn’t target any specific receptionist. Sandwiched the $20 in between my ID and credit card and asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades. He said he’d see what he could do, asked us if we wanted a room with a view or a quiet room. We chose a view. We were upgraded to a Rush Tower room with a view of Fremont street. Very pleased with our experience!
