Tipped:  $0 Upgraded to  close to elevator  from  lowest basic

I tried the sandwich trick at the Four Queens Hotel downtown on Fremont St in Las Vegas. I was staying for 28 days on an Expedia prepaid lowest room rate. I was checking in on a Thursday about 2PM. I had placed $200 between the credit card and drivers license with both bills showing about half inch. I asked if I could have a complimentary upgrade to a 2 room suite as I placed the $200 sandwich on the counter more than half way to her. She was studying the computer screen and glanced at the sandwich. She said she could not put me in a suite because they were all booked up. I then asked for a room close to the elevator in the north tower away from the street as I took back the sandwich and made a small show of the $200. I got the smaller room I asked for and did not tip. I went back the next Monday with $400 in the sandwich and asked for an upgrade to a two room suite. I saw him notice the bills. The man said he would like to help me, but could not since I was staying so long, and that the hotel managers are the only ones that could help me, due to the amount of time. He said he could help me for a few nights, but the managers like to provide the suites to the high rollers. I said I understand and thank you for trying and went back to the small room with $400 for the rest of the stay.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  jacuzzi suite  from  standard

at check in i put $20 in my passport with credit card and asked for comp upgrade. i was stoked when she put me in a jazuzzi suite on the 14th floor. Very nice room with huge tub in mini living room. IMHO….downtown is better for people looking to gamble, eat, and get your drink on for a lot cheaper without the “Strip” hoop-la.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to    from  Basic Non Smoking

Upon check in, asked for a comp. upgrade. She looked and said there were none. She mentioned there was a big slot tourny which was most likely the problem. She said any other time would be okay. She sounded legitimate. Maybe next time. Sorry as I am typing this in my 4 Queens room righr now on my phone.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  n/A  from  standard

Arrived around 6pm for a 4 night stay at the Four Queens hotel/casino. 3 clerks were working the desk. I offered the “sandwich” to the clerk and asked for a complimentary room upgrade. She typed for awhile into her computer before going to talk to another clerk (or maybe manager). She came back looked a little more, and then very apologetically told me that she could not upgrade me due to alot of Woodstock tribute activities occurring this weekend on Fremont Street. The best part…she returned the $20!! That was unexpected. I thanked her for trying and for returning the tip. I could tell that she really wanted to upgrade me, but just couldn’t under the circumstances. My first “PUSH” while in Vegas came at the check-in desk. Unfortunately, there were not very many more pushes (or wins) for that matter for the remainder of the trip.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Pretty Nice Suite  from  Normal Crappy One

Female clerk, looked surprised when she saw $20 sandwiched between the ID and CC, I calmly asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She smiled, and typed away for some time. She informed me that she was moving me to the floor with suites, and gave me a room key, as well as a free parking pass for the extent of our 4-day stay. Suite was huge, had a bunch of perks and definitely worth the tip. Best bet in vegas!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Jacuzzi suite  from  Standard

Arrived about 8:00PM. This is probably the slowest week of the year in Vegas, right after the rodeo leaves town, so I had high hopes. Slipped her the $20 sandwich and asked if there were any complementary upgrades available. She never changed her expression, and even apologized because it was a smoking room. Ended up with a 2 room suite with a huge jacuzzi in the living room, 14th floor.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Petite Suite with Wet Bar  from  Basic Guest Room

Did the trick and asked simply “Do you have any complimentary upgrades?” The clerk’s eyes lit up and began searching. The funny part was the supervisor told the clerk it was not ok to upgrade us based on the fact that we had 4 days booked straight and on top of that it was through a discount website (Expedia).

When the supervisor left, she upgraded us anyways, took the 20, and told us to say if anybody asked that I was on my honeymoon. LOL.

This trick works! Best bet when entering Vegas!
