I reserved the Fab king room and I tried the “sandwich” trick but no upgrade, not even an early check-in. We were offered to upgrade to the Go room but that was going to be $25/night. Didn’t work this time.
Checked in around 1pm easter sunday chatted with the younger girl explained to her that we were just here last november and got an upgrade to a go room with a view of bellagio fountains and asked her if she can do the same but a view of the strip .The rooms were comped for 4 nites layed out the 20 dollar bill and it worked again.Thats 7 out of 7 on my upgrades thanks frontdesktip
We were unable to target any specific clerk. Our flight was 3 hours late, so we arrived at 9.30pm on a Thursday night. The Flamingo was exceptionally busy due to the Rodeo Finals but the woman gratefully noticed our $50 note as we enquired if there were any complementary upgrades available and quickly upgraded us to a 26th floor Strip view Go room directly opposite Caesars Palace and we were also able to view the Bellagio fountains nightly! We gave $50 as we were staying 2 weeks. Go rooms are far superior to Fab and have a fridge, CD/DVD player, largescreen TV and even buttons to open and close your net curtains and drapes! Go on, ask for an upgrade, provide a sandwich, they can only say no, but we have never failed yet!
We checked in at about 6pm. Handed the clerk mt sandwiched $20 and ask of there were any upgrades available. She left the counter for a moment but came back and offered the mini suite. We took it immediately considering we were already taking advantage of comped stay!
Checked in late, after 11:00. we were booked for a 2 queen room, asked if she could find us a king bed, maybe something with a strip view, almost jokingly. slipped the 20 between the id and cc. got a king bed go room on the 24th floor overlooking caesar’s and the bellagio fountain.
I came across this site before I went to Las Vegas, and decided to try this out. Long story short, I was upgraded from their most basic room to a suite (bedroom, living room, fridge, whirle pool tub, strip view, two bathrooms, etc.). I was lucky enough to get a female (25-30-ish) clerk who I could charm. I placed a $20 in between my ID and credit card, and nicely asked for a complementary upgrade. She, smiled (this wasn’t her first time I’m sure) and was on the phone and typing for about 5-6 minutes. She asked if I was okay with a room with a fridge hot tub and I said yes. That was the LEAST of the upgrades. I also must note I was on the 27th floor, with 28th being the highest. This will forever be a memorable experience.
I didn’t have the chance to pick the clerk because of the big single line. I think I was lucky because everyone recommends to pick a young clerk and when my turn came a young lady called for the next one. She was very discrete trying to get a better room, not desperately stroking the keyboard like some reviews. Booked a Go room with high roller view and she gave me a bigger room at the top floor with strip view. It worked like a charm!
We arrived at the Flamingo on Eed. June 17th, staying for 6 nights.
We had booked the regular fab double queen room. I got an email earlier in the week offering a basic upgrade for 23.00 a night. We went to check in, and I did the sandwich trick.
The gal helping us was probably in her 60s, and very nice. She thanked me for the tip. I never asked for anything, and after printing our keys, she informed me that we were booked in a double Queen GO room. Yay! It worked!
I did not target anyone. Just walked up to the next available gal. Gave her my ID, $20, Credit Card sandwich. Asked if we could check in early (noonish). She said, YES, and WOULD YOU LIKE AN UPGRADE? I said, “That would be great!”.
The person next to me asked to check in early and was told it was a $35 fee.
AWESOME!!! Thank you!!!
I AM a Front Desk Clerk (Agent) on the strip.
20.00 will get you upgraded but the higher you go the better the upgrade. Choosing a “target”? Who came up with that? We all do the SAME thing, young, old, male, female clerk. Just make sure you are checking in at a union hotel, because managers can’t do check ins…It’s in the contract.
The Tip Sandwich is discrete and we know what you want, you really don’t even have to ask. If we can’t do it we’ll give the money back. However, the money must pass from your hand, because we have also had people try to scam us by waving around a twenty dollar bill, taking the keys and putting the twenty back in their pocket. If you do this, your keys will not work when you get to the room because we’ll change the room number back to what you booked, you’ll have to come back stand in line again and who knows what you’ll end up with? Low floor, last room at the end of the hall with no view? Not wise to scam the clerk. Hope this helps, and YES this website is Awesome, the sandwich is the real deal.
