When we arrived I greeted the clerk by her name and carried on a conversation. She asked me for my ID and CC, I then mentioned that I would love an upgrade and inquired about the go rooms, she stated that they were 40 per night extra, but offered us a strip view on 20. When we went up to the room it reaked of smoke, I went down to the front desk to switch rooms. The clerk went and spoke to her manager and got us upgraded to a go-room. Very nice….
We’d reserved the room online. I slipped the 20 between driver’s license and credit card, and asked about complimentary upgrades. The front desk person looked at this and was totally wise to what was going on. She asked what kind of upgrade we wanted, and I just said something nice (I highly recommend being specific–if you want something bigger, say so; if you want a nice view, say so). We ended up with the same room as we reserved, but on the 21st floor overlooking the Strip. It was an excellent view, and my girlfriend was happy. Unfortunately, she wasn’t happy about the urine on the floor of the not-to-clean bathroom and I wasn’t happy about the construction in the next room starting at 8 AM each morning we were there.
asked for complimentary upgrade to GO room with $20 under credit card but clerk said she was unable to do it without charging $25 extra/night. Kept the $20 and stayed in the basic room.
Checked in at 11 AM. Slipped 20$ between CC and ID. He explained kindly, the Go-Rooms were a 50$ extra per night. But he’d give me a room on the Top floor with a view and some extra space close to the corner. Took it.
Reserved comped room on mail promo. $20.00 under the credit card and a freindly request for an upgrade scored us a Mini-Suite (2 room)
Thought it would work, especially since it was at a dead time. Went through the recommended procedure: slipped a $20 between the CC and ID and asked if there were complimentary upgrades. I thought the receptionist would be cool but she said something like, “Um.. let me see… no, but I can get you a room with a view of Caesars.” So I said, “Oh okay. Thanks.” and took the $20 back.
When she was printing out the paperwork, though, she said, “Complimentary upgrades…” under her breath as if she was a newbie piecing together the $20 dollar bill and my request. Another clue that she was new: she forgot to give me the coupon book that was part of the package so I had to return to the front desk pick it up. I should’ve picked a better receptionist.
Worked great. Said she would see what she could do.. The $20 vanished and she hooked us up! Rooms arent anything to write home about but had 2 beds and a big living room.. Also got a fruit and cheese platter, had to be her!!
This actually works! Checked in Tuesday afternoon at around 3pm, a few people in line. Went to the clerk and made some small talk, using personalization (name, etc) general rapport building. Asked for complimentary upgrade if possible, she replied they were pretty booked since a few conventions were in town, I asked her to see what she could do for me – flashing the $20 under the cc and passing it over. She immediately knew what was up, and then made some calls, and I was upgraded from a standard room on the 9th floor looking at the garage to a 17th floor room with a bellagio fountain strip view. All it took was the $20 and being friendly at the counter. Very happy that I found out about this prior to going to Vegas!
Checked in for Fri and Sat night at Flamingo. Requested a view of the fountains, and was told they were all ‘on hold’ but she was able to free one up for me. 2 for 2 last week (Luxor + Flamingo — see my post above). Could I have gotten that without the tips? Possibly, but I seriously doubt it.
Worked at the Flamingo 5/19-5/20. Upgraded to a Junior Suite with a view of the Bellagio fountains.
