I didn’t have the chance to pick the clerk because of the big single line. I think I was lucky because everyone recommends to pick a young clerk and when my turn came a young lady called for the next one. She was very discrete trying to get a better room, not desperately stroking the keyboard like some reviews. Booked a Go room with high roller view and she gave me a bigger room at the top floor with strip view. It worked like a charm!

Me and 3 friends booked a hotel stay (2 basic rooms) at the Flamingo from Oct 25 to the 29th (4 nights, Wed-Sun). When we arrived at the front check-in, an employee tried to convince us to use the self-check in. Knowing we wanted to try the front desk tip, we passed. We spoke to a very enthusiastic man and slipped him $40 ($20 for each room), asking for an upgrade to the GO room or something with a fridge. As soon as he saw the money, he thanked us and told us he’d see what he could do. The best he had to offer us was instead of a $25 fee to upgrade (per night, per room) he could offer it to us for $15 (per night, per room). Shot down. We took our money back and left it at that. Worth a try.

I stayed from sunday to thursday. I went to check in at about 10:30pm and a kind gentleman calls me forward to him. As I walked to him I noticed that what looked to be a front desk manager was standing next to him. I recall her being called over by numerous clerks to I believe give manager overrides on certain things. I slipped the 20 in between the ID and credit card and right away the guy looked over at his manager and noticed she was looking at us. He had a disappointed look on his face and kindly gave it back and said they can’t accept tips. I booked a FAB room originally. He gave me a free refrigerator and some comped buffets however for free. After his manager looked satisfied at his resistance to temptation, she walked to the other end of the desk far away from us. At this point, he hinted to me that if I came down the next day to the key desk at around noon that he would “hook me up” and pointed out numerous options for upgrades. He was strongly hinting that the upgrade was possible had his manager not been next to him at that moment. I could have possibly went down the next day and upgraded the room like he said but I was fine with our room so I didn’t bother. He gave me a fridge, high floor, and a good view while I didn’t even have to give the $20. I say this “trick” works depending on who is at the front desk manager wise.

I reserved the Fab king room and I tried the “sandwich” trick but no upgrade, not even an early check-in. We were offered to upgrade to the Go room but that was going to be $25/night. Didn’t work this time.

I booked a regular fab 2 queens bed. We checked in about 3 p.m. I did the sandwich trick and asked for any complimentary upgrades. Since this was my first time I wasn’t sure what to say so she asked me with a view…… and pointed out the GO Room. I Couldn’t afford the upgrade price for that room but I got a 15th floor view of Caesar’s Palace and a fridge for my “medication” It was still a Fab 2 queen room but not bad I was happy. but next time I will be more specific and ask for a suite and see what happens.

We booked the fab room which is the cheapest room available. We didn’t get a great upgrade for our room because we stayed at the hotel during the week before memorial day (Thursday-Saturday). However, a clerk was able to upgrade my room to the highest floor with strip view.

Our reservation was for a Fab King room. We presented $20 bill in our stack of platinum TR cards and CC and IDs at checkin and asked the clerk “would you happen to have a complimentary upgrade available to a Go Room with a fridge?” She slid the 20 aside and said she would check in a bit. She tapped around confirming our reservation details and then said she did not have a Go upgrade available but would be able to give us an Executive King with fridge and coffee maker. This was on the 27th floor and was a bit larger than our reserved room. I responded that would be great! She then proceeded to tap around stating she could probably find one with a decent view too…yep decent view of strip. I thanked her and said how much that we appreciated that. She handed us keycards and waters! As we thanked her again and turned to walk away, she picked up the $20 and thanked us:) We got up to our room to find a full-on center strip view on the 27th floor!!!!!! Very decent and comfortable room with coffee provided daily – this alone saved us more than the tip to upgrade!

We walked in to the flamingo hotel to checking in and looked at the front desk help and chose a young lady in her 30s with short dark hair who was very nice. we had got our room on Hotel Tonight for $45 and assumed it was a GO room only to find out it was a standard King. We had heard some horror stories about the standard rooms at this hotel so I decided to try the $20 sandwich and it was not successful. She said very politely I can keep the tip but I still have to charge you for the upgrade there are no free upgrades today. I politely took the money back and paid the $30 for the upgrade for the GO room. Oh well you win some you lose some.

We arrived at the Flamingo on Eed. June 17th, staying for 6 nights.
We had booked the regular fab double queen room. I got an email earlier in the week offering a basic upgrade for 23.00 a night. We went to check in, and I did the sandwich trick.
The gal helping us was probably in her 60s, and very nice. She thanked me for the tip. I never asked for anything, and after printing our keys, she informed me that we were booked in a double Queen GO room. Yay! It worked!

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Superior with a Strip view  from  Superior

Decided to try my first 20-dollar trick ever. Was going to stay in 2 rooms for 5 nights, so opted for 2×20 dollars as our booking totaled 10 nights.

The clerk smiled as I passed over the sandwich asking for comp upgrades, and said \”I\’ll see what I can do\”. We got a magnificent Strip view and inter-connecting rooms. I asked about any GO rooms but she said they were a $25 something extra per room.

We did get a baby crib for free, normally $30 per night so that was also a treat.

We had booked the absolutely cheapest rooms we could come across ($25), so I think this was a huge improvement from our original booking.
