Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Wide screen deluxe  from  The basic tower room

We checked into the Excalibur for 10 days, while in line we were directed to go to a lovely desk clerk who was a woman in her late 30’s perhaps early 40’s. After some small talk I proceeded to pass her the sandwich and ask if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She smiled and said not to worry. We were given 2 upgraded rooms and the resort fee was waivered.

Jackpot.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Widescreen with a view  from  Standard

Went up to the first clerk available at 9:30 PM. Handed her my credit card and ID with a $20 bill in the middle, as soon as she saw it, I asked it there were any complimentary upgrades available, she nodded her head before I finished speaking and said I’ll take care of you. She asked me several questions and then hooked me up with a sweet view in an updated room. Also had my brother showing up the next day, informed her that we’d hoped they could be near us, she upgraded their room too to ensure there would be no problem putting them by us when they checked in! This trick is awesome… I was shocked it worked so well!

checked in at about 11 pm. Got an older male clerk who didnt look happy. Slipped him the sandwich and asked him if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He smiled and said let me see what I can do. We were upgraded to tower 2 on the 28th floor to a widescreen room and a bunch of drink coupons!!!

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  the next up from standard  from  standard

I had booked two rooms for five days bidding on Priceline, and hoped for a better hotel, but then found this site and thought I’de give it a try. Had a long line wait and went to the next available clerk. Gave her the $40 sandwich (figured $20 per room) and asked “Are there any complimentary room upgrades?” She had a manager behind her, but as soon as she saw the money she slipped the cash under her keyboard and started typing. I figured it must be working, but should have made sure she was upgrading to the widescreen rooms, because she only upgraded the the slightly larger deluxe room. 🙁 Not really sure if it was worth it. Guess I should have asked for a complimentary widescreen room upgrade.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower 2 widescreen room FULL STRIP VIEW  from  standard

My husband and I checked in at about 12 am on Monday. Not very many clerks and we had been debating if we were going to try this or not the whole flight down. Got an older male clerk who didnt look happy at all. I lost my nerve and told my husband that I would wait for him by the bar!!! Well, my husband simply slipped the 20 between his DL and CC and asked \”Do you have any complimentary upgrades available?\”. The clerk took the 20, placed it under the keyboard and in min. we were upgraded to a very nice widescreen room in Tower 2, 25th floor, with the most amazing view of the strip ever!!!! 20 bucks well spent!!!!!!

Tipped:  $0 Upgraded to  widescreen strip view  from  deluxe room

this was about 2/12 yrs ago. i am telling the story now because i just found the site and thought i’d share. my wife and i checked into excalibur probably around 430pm after arriving from soCal. booked our room on excalibur site. deluxe room i believe it was. did not even think about offering a tip for an upgrade as it was both our first time in vegas together and first time in many yrs in general. handed clerk, young man, very nice as i remember my card and license (license had actually expired on my bday about 3 prior but he didnt’ notice or didn’t care). he told us our room wasn’t ready and he could upgrade us to a widescreen room for no charge! we jumped on it and got a room on 15th floor facing ny ny for no additional charge. could even keep an eye on our car down in the parking lot. it was our anniversary weekend, but we didn’t go in mentioning that. we just seemed to get lucky lol. im sure if i ask next time we go (hopefully soon, for my birthday) im sure we will not be so fortunate even with tipping

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  standard  from  standard

Tried the $20 tip, but the person that waited on us said since it was a weekend, nothing was available. Her supervisor was watching her like a hawk. Sure that was the reason. She took the credit card and left the $20 and license there for a while, and we took the money back and then she picked up the license.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Widescreen  from  Standard

I checked in around 8 pm on May 25, 2010. I was waiting in line and the female clerk waved at me, so I went to her front desk. I handed her my sandwich and as soon as I did that, I asked “Are there any complimentary upgrades?” She replied with “I will see what I can do.” She then upgraded me to the widescreen room in Tower II on the 14th floor, gave me discounts for shows, waived all my daily resort fees, and put $12 credit back onto my credit card. I stayed there till the 28th, so $20 was very well spent!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Widescreen Refurbished Room  from  Standard View Room

Handed her the sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She said No, but hadn’t seen the sandwich yet. After seeing the $20, she left it on the counter, but closer to her side. (A good sign I think)
She mouthed the words “Let me see what I can do.” and smiled. Very friendly lady, even if she rejected me I wouldn’t mind. She upgraded me to the refurbished Widescreen TV rooms in Tower II, BUT I didn’t realize until later that I lost the view of the strip!!!
Figured Cest La Vie…but upon returning to the room after dinner, the room was infested with 9 moths. Called to complain and they moved us up 13 floors higher, giving us a lovely view of the pool area and rest of the city. All in all, a great time and best $20 bucks spent in Vegas!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  none  from  Standard

This was the first time I tried the “trick”. My son and I checked in about 3:30 pm Monday. There was a small line so we took the next available teller, a middle aged lady. I had the $20 tucked in-between my cards. When she asked, I gave her the sandwich and waited. She looked at the $20 and seemed surprised! Then I said, “could you check for any complimentary upgrades available?” She started typing and I thought it might have worked! But, without saying anything, she turned and walked towards the supervisor. After talking to her boss, she came back and politely said there was nothing she could do and slid the $20 back to me. I think it was her first time too! Oh well, I will try it next time and see what happens.
