Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Resort King Higher Floor  from  Resort King

I did get an upgrade but at Encore all the rooms are pretty much the same except for the parlor and salon suites. The upgrade was only a higher floor. Would love to try it at Wynn and see if it could be any better.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Panoramic Suite  from  King Resort Suite - comp'd room

Checked in around 5:30 pm. Didn’t get a choice of agents. My bf is too chicken to try the sandwich but the room was under his name. He gave DL and CC. I had a $20 folded in my right hand and held it out on the counter for agent to see. I asked if there were any comp upgrades cuz it’s my birthday. She typed away, said an upgrade would cost $xx/nite. I said, no, that’s ok. She looked at me and shook her head and said, I’ll give it to you as my bday gift to you. I said thank you, shook her hand and gave her the $20. Received a beautiful room on 59th floor with a view of the strip.

Tipped:  $10 Upgraded to  Higher floor  from  King Suite

We arrived to check in and were offered a room on the 39th floor. I overheard a conversation between another couple and a desk clerk who told them about upgrading to a higher floor for $25/night. I have read that the highest floors are considered an upgrade and have read various stories of people complaining when they are assigned a lower floor (noise, view, etc). So when were were offered the 39th floor, I pulled out my $20 and held it with my credit card/driver’s license in plain view and politely requested another floor. The clerk then offered me a smoking room on the 63rd floor, but my hubby did not want to stay in a smoking room, so we settled for room 5418 which was very close to the strip side (the rooms lower in numbers are closest to the strip –5418 is closer say than 5446). Since we did not get the top floor that I really wanted, I gave her 10 bucks, and she seemed extremely appreciative. After arriving to the room, she even called us to ask us if we were happy with the room and told me to call her if there was anything else we needed during our stay!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Suite $40 upgrade  from  Resort Suite

I chose the only male clerk at the desk. I simply asked that I would appreciate anything that he could do to make our stay more memorable, he was very nice and indirectly thanked me for the tip.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Panoramic View (+$25/night)  from  Resort Room

We’ve stayed at the Wynn the last 7 times in Vegas, and each time the sandwich has worked. It appears they have a different policy at Encore. I saw the clerk I have dealt with on several occasions at Wynn, and got in his line, but the guys in front of me were taking forever, so I moved over to the next clerk. She was very pleasant, but as soon as I offered “the sandwich” and asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades, she hastily returned the $20 and said they did have upgrades for a small fee. We eventually settled on a beautiful south strip/golf course view room on the 60th floor for an additional $25 per night. So an extra $100 altogether, rather than $20. Again, the clerk was very helpful and friendly, but the way she shoved the $20 back suggested to me that they’ve been told by someone higher up to work the client for some extra cash rather than pocketing the tip themselves.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  N/A  from  Resort Suite

We arrived in the early afternoon (between 1 and 2pm). We didn’t target any particular clerk, since none of them looked any better than the others. When we walked up, I greeted the clerk and made small talk. Then when I handed him the “sandwich” I asked if they had any complementary upgrades. He said that, unfortunately, they didn’t, but that we could pay to upgrade. He did give me the $20 back.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  top floor overlooking the strip  from  standard suited

Did the sandwich and asked for a comp upgrade, high floor room, overlooking the strip. He told me he could not take a “tip” until after he had booked me. He then found the last open room on the 63rd (top) floor, overlooking the strip and gave it to me for 4 nights. My TA had booked a vacation package even though I was going for business and I paid a meager $150 a night. My co-workers, three of them, that didn’t believe the trick or were afraid to try all ended up on the 8th floor.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  panoramic view resort room  from  resort room

Upon check in we were gutted when we saw that all of the front desk agents were female! BF gave the clerk the $20 between the DL & CC and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. The surprised clerk said “Oh” as the $20 slipped out onto her keyboard. She left the $20 on the keyboard throughout the entire transaction which was kind of awkward, as all of her coworkers could easily see it, but kindly offered us the choice of a pool view or panoramic view room. Lucky for us we ended up with a panoramic view room on the 55th floor, at the end of hall-absolutely no noise from neighbors or the strip!
