I came in on a late Friday night for this year Superbowl weekend. I couldn’t target any clerk because there was no line up. I got a male who was in his mid 30’s. I first put a $100.00 bill on the counter to make sure that he saw it and then I gave my passport and credit card. Then I ask him if there was any complimentary upgrades? The upgrade that I was looking for was a Bellagio suite and I told him that if he can do it then I will tip him $100.00 bucks. He said that I cannot give me a comp upgrade to a bellagio suite. Then I ask if he can give a complimentary upgrade to a Salone suite instead? he said that it would cost me $75.00 per night. I told him that I was looking for that. Then he said the best that he can do for me is a Strip View but it would be still a Resort King room. then I asked him if there was any Fountain View? he said that all Fountain views Resort King room were sold out. At this point I took his offer for the Strip View that was on the 15th Floor. But I took back my $100.00 back and gave him $20.00 instead. Because there was no way in hell I am giving $100.00 for the same room size. I have done this $20.00 tip trick before and I learned that you should only tip max $20.00 on a same room size with a better view. Only tip $100.00 or more if they can give you a suite or better.
1 weekday night in April with no major events/conventions.
Check-in was medium sized busy as we arrived about 5-6pm or so. Ushered to a friendly Eastern European guy who chatted us up nicely. He saw the $20, let it sit in plain view and smiled and said he’ll do what he can.
Went from a run of the house room to a Bellagio Suite (non fountain view…but that was ok by us) on a high floor (20+)!
Well worth it. And we’re going back there again next month!
My boyfriend and I got to the hotel around 11am on Friday. There was a long line of people checking in, so we didn’t get to choose who to do the sandwich trick to. When our time came, we were assigned to a gentlemen in his late 20’s maybe. We were super friendly when we greeted him and handed him our $30 along with my credit card and ID. He immediately took the $30 and placed it on the counter and said, “unfortunately I cannot accept this until after I have helped you, and if you are satisfied then I will gladly accept if you are still willing.” We said it was fine and continued being extra nice to him and telling him that my boyfriend and I just turned 21 this year and wanted to experience Vegas. He said he would try as much as he can but cannot guarantee because of how busy the weekend we went was. We got the run of the house room, so basically it is whatever is available at time of check in. He said that he got us a resort king room on the 25 level, but instead of it having a bad view, he gave us a room that had a great view of the strip. It was not centered in front of the strip, but you can still see the fountains and everything from our view. He also said it was ready and that we were able to check in early. Only downside was that it was an accessible room so there was no bathtub, which is what I was looking for, but for the view, I was satisfied.
Walked up to the first available clerk, handed $20 sandwich, and asked for room w water fountain view, and scored. Rooms are slightly smaller than Caesars Augusta, but you can hear the fountain music through Tv channel 22. Was here for two nights with one night comp, so it was $20 well spent. Watched water fountain shows every night.
Gave $20 to a very nice front desk woman. I reserved a king room with fountain view. I asked for a free suite. She went to talk to her boss for a few minutes. She came back and said no suites are available but she will give me a higher floor so I can see the fountain better. I took back the $20 and gave her $10 instead and thanked her for trying.
Probably had everything going against me. Flight delayed so we didn’t check in until 9pm. $20 sandwich, was immediately handed it back and he told me they are fully booked with a conference.
We didn’t even get our original king room, two queens. He gave us $50 food and beverage credit to make up for it. Fine by me since he gave the $20 back.
We arrived at the Bellagio at around 10am on a Sunday morning. We did not pick any line just took the next available window. I did the $20 sandwich trick and told her we were back for our 4th stay and we were celebrating our 31st anniversary “would you have any complimentary upgrades?” She told us that AT&T had a convention going on and there would be no fountain view rooms available. She did notice that I had been in contact with their concierge before our arrival (to surprise my wife with spots at Cypress Pool) and she made a few calls to verify it. She then offered an upgrade to the Resort Tower King corner room (she told us a $70/night upgrade) which gave us views of the mountains and the main pool area~ very nice. The best part is that the elevators took us directly down to the pool area…no need to walk through the shop areas. Not a biggie, but was nice. All in all a good score.
Checked in near midnight Friday with another couple. They received a standard spa tower room. I tipped $50 and received a corner spa tower room. She also gave us buffet/cafe line passes and sent up chocolate covered strawberries and champagne for our anniversary. I wish I had pushed for a fountain view but they seemed very busy this weekend.
My wife and I arrived in a super-crowded hotel and front desk area around 11pm on a Wednesday. As I asked for our “complimentary upgrade” the woman kept asking about staying Friday night too. We were booked Wed-Friday and I believe that was the only hurdle in the way for an even sweeter upgrade. If staying in the middle of the week, go for the big upgrade! It was easier than expected!
It wasn’t busy so the we were immediately directed to the first available front desk agent.
This was my first try with the $20 trick/tip and I handed it over with my 2 id cards and before I could say anything else she quickly looked over to her boss and said “So you would like an upgrade -lets see what we can do” She didn’t have a suite or fountain view due to the spring break crowd but did put us up on the 22nd floor in a newly renovated room. Loved the new beds!
Don’t bother with a song and dance they know what the 20 dollars is for but just being respectful and kind is all that it really takes.
